  1. In Yuzu's case all obstacles that he had gone through, brought him where he is now and made him the person that he is today: He's not brandmarked as a technical cheater or notoriously overscored skater. He gets what he deserves and deserves what he gets. He's not an arrogant puppy and doesn't have a family who tries to exploit his fame. He's grounded and knows where he belongs. He never forgets about his home, his origin and the people who paved his road to success. He always pays his tribute. That's why he's beloved all over the world.
  2. Pssst... Golden suitcase 1: 10kg Golden suitcase 2: 40kg
  3. I agree that Matteo's FS is very entertaining, especially the second half. However, I do believe that you could get out a lot more of that Queen medley. I remember Yuzu at the age of 16-17 (younger than many juniors yesterday!). He had the same arsenal of jumps as Matteo at the age of 20, but his performance level has been very high already. R&J1 in Nice was jawdropping despite the fall (or perhaps because of the fall?) As if his life depended on it. I miss that spirit with most skaters today. #Footnote: don't get me wrong. I really celebrated Matteo's skates at Euros and the Universiade and will follow all of his performances in the future, but he still needs time to become a true master of his music and choreo. That's why I pray that all these youngsters stay competitive till the age of 25-30. The technical content might suffer a bit, I don't know, but the maturity and artistic abilities could reach the next level. One of my absolute favorites this season is Kevin Aymoz. His programs are very innovative, unique and 100% passionate. He can sell them anytime even with mistakes. I have goosebumps after every performance. Another skater who could have a great total package is Camden Pulkinen. His style reminds me a bit of Patrick Chan. But without a quad and desastrous freeskates it's a hopeless story I fear. I'm not surprised at all that the overall quality of the short programs is much better than the freeskates. You have to consider: SP: 3 jump elements in nearly 3 minutes FS: 7 jump elements in 4 minutes In the short you have a lot more time and energy resources to do something creative and exciting between the jumps. Plus: you can drop your jump nemesis (unless it's the Axel). In the free you have to survive every technical obstacle first and that restrains your performance massively... If Yuzu wasn't bond to any rules and included the jumps the way he liked (number, type, frequency), I bet my Pooh plushy that Origin would be a performance for the ages at first attempt.
  4. This season has tought me one thing: Some skaters can get their points together. Few can skate clean. But only a very small club of skaters really needs music in the background. I have the feeling that most skaters could mute or rotate their music and I wouldn't notice it. There is barely any connection to it. When I watched the Universiade and the Juniors' FS today, I asked myself: What is actually left from the program, when I erease all the jumps? Well. Not very much tbh. If you decide to skate to a specific music piece, you have to translate the music into your body movements and the music has to "sound" through them. When I watch Yuzu skating to Otonal, Javi to Malaguena or Jason to Love is a b*tch, I can "hear" the music through their bodies. I can see something else than just a random chain of elements, steps and turns. The choreo is made for that specific piece and only for that. I pray that this connection with the music won't be lost completely in future skating generations... for me that's the REAL heart of figure skating.
  5. For me (beware! *very personal impression and opinion*) it's both ice and fire. Yuzu has a lot of power and temperament in this program (and he looks hot in this black transparent costume of course). In some parts his skating feels even a bit aggressive. He's like a pulsing volcano indeed. However. The program is also cold to me, because there's not a single smile in these four minutes. He has skated a couple of very serious programs in the past, but there's always been a moment, where he found his inner peace and calmness... where he was tender and vulnerable... In Origin he's a bit... yaah... badass to me. [His performance in Moscow is an exception. I think there was a little glimpse of a smile and kuyashii feeling after the final 1A pop and the final pose. In Helsinki he stayed in that serious/death stare mode until Brian gave him a hug.] And this contrast of "hot" and "cold" makes Origin interesting to me. It shows a new side of him that we haven't seen before.
  6. For me Yuzu is a skater, who is very sensitive, emotional, introverted, mysterious and etherial in most of his programs. But a positive appearance throughout. Origin is pretty much the only program where I have a really "badass" impression of him. The death stare, the cold atmosphere and tension in the air, the gelled hairstyle, the black and gold costume, the music, the jumps... It's like: "Okay everyone, playtime is over. Boss has entered the rink and he will kill you, if you dare to mess with him."
  7. Sharpness and passion. That's what I'm looking forward to the most in Saitama. I'm still waiting for those goosebumps that I felt at Media Day. I want him to "tear" out my heart - in a positive way. Origin is a very busy and action packed program that lives from top speed, dynamics and power from start to finish... but I think the biggest challenge is the abstract and badass character of the music. Plushy had the advantage that he could slip into the role of Nijinsky and include some of his iconic moves in the choreography. Yuzu has nobody to portrait really, he has to bring this program to life with his own style, feelings and personality. That's much harder than acting/role play I'd say. So his moves have to be 100% on the note and tell HIS story. That's what I hope for at Worlds. #Sidenote: You might be right that Origin has grown beyond a mere tribute program. However, for me it builds a duo with Otonal and I can't image one without the other. It's like trying to seperate two sides of a coin. He either recycles both or none of them... My vote goes to something new that no other skater has ever used yet and add a new facet to the landscape of figure skating programs. Especially if he plans to r***** in 2020.
  8. I really hope that he can skate Origin clean this season. Saitama would be a dream venue, but I'd be fine with WTT, too. Then he can frame both programs, put them on the wall at TCC and save them forever with best memories. Recycling Otonal and Origin would somehow destroy their magic as a tribute duo for me. However, I would celebrate a revival at CWW 2022 without jumps
  9. Lol the collar again I took the time to rewatch Origin from Media Day: Love love love the camera angle at 3:40!! I feel personally adressed by him in that moment, as if he wanted to reach for my heart through the screen. Really cool. Pity that he doesn't do this little move into the judges' direction. That for sure would boost his PCS by 5 points. At least It would be great to see him like this in Saitama again. Fast, light-footed, dynamic and passionate. To be honest: I really don't care about points and the number of quads at the moment. He can do three or five or none, it doesn't matter for me. I just want to see him again, healthy and motivated with a performance he's satisfied with at the end of the day.
  10. To be fair: I think Javi will go anyway. I mean: how can you reject the cutest kindergarden in the world?
  11. Don't be too loud... Olympic Channel will build an extra ship to sail Javi back to Toronto
  12. His magical skating must have reached even the Wizarding World already, aye? An article in ancient Runes would be badass. Btw: I hope, Rita Skeeter hasn't written any unpleasant things about him in the Daily Prophet yet
  13. I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but... I am surprised, in what a good shape his skating boots are. You can only see some little scratches on the toepick, but the rest looks completely new. Thumbs up.
  14. I've been a die hard Queen fan since my baby crib days, so I completely freaked out, when bouncy Yuzu freestyled to Don't Stop Me Now with air guitar and kneeslide and everything. I played it on repeat for... what? two days? The best laugh: I wonder, if he was actually aware of the meaning in that moment? I would celebrate any kind of Queen program in the future. Whatever he likes. However, I would probably get a never ending laugh attack, if he chose Bicycle Race or Good old-fashioned lover boy
  15. You mean this one here, aye? ©credits to anniesgifs.tumblr.com and meillianna.tumblr.com That 'tropical monstrosity' is my no. 1, too. I think the pants were white? Well, whatever... I honestly didn't like it... until pic 3. That was perfect I could just live with the girls' outfit, but the guys... However, it looks like they enjoyed it?
  16. Same Just realized that I forgot something...
  17. If there's general interest, I could tell a bit about the making of the last 3-4 videos including: 1. The global concept/ideas/inspirations 2. The storyboard and creation process 3. The collection/selection of the raw clips 4. The music selection/cut 5. Technical stuff and the editing programs 6. Finetuning and proof-reading 7. Copyright issues, logos and credits ... and whatever you want to know beyond that. #Sidenote: I'm an amateur editor myself, I've never received any professional education. So there are probably much easier solutions to many things
  18. I think, the Prince move is a forward lunge while the pistol pose is a sideway lunge, is that correct? However, "lunge" as a move name was too unspecific. That's why I labeled it as "Prince move"
  19. Who can relate with these symptoms?
  20. Oh dear... Aye. Of course it's a 4S... It's time to go to bed. #Footnote: My personal fav was 4Lo+3A+SEQ at WTT 2015.
  21. Aye, he did and Mao went crazy I really miss these little dance battles and challenges in current shows. They should revive them for FaOI this year. (except those yellow shirts + white pants... watching Javi and Yuzu dancing in them... I'm still shocked after 7 years )
  22. To be honest, I wouldn't have the heart to photoshop him that way... However, I remember "The Ice 2012", where he was dressed as a Barbie girl with that white skirt + pink shirt and ribbon in his hair... It took me quite a while to realize that it was actually him. He was really convincing imo I wonder, if we will ever get to see today's mature Yuzu dressed up as a girl/woman again (perhaps at FaOI, if he loses a weird bet against Nobu or sth...?) EDIT: Okay, this program must have a serious bug
  23. I had a daydream and now I can't stop laughing
  24. Basically everyone has a Bundesliga poster in his office in our Math Tower at Dortmund University. To break with the soccer mainstream, I put a self-drawn portrait of Yuzu above my desk and everyone - professors, tutors, students, employees, random guests - ask, who that Asian guy is: To give an accurate answer, I show them a self-made video: I can't say that they became die-hard fans, but half of them come back to my office every friday afternoon to ask, when his next appearance on German television is
  25. Petition for a sbs performance in Sendai. It's long overdue.
