Thank you SO much for this huge and detailed collection of great quotes! I put some of them into the article already (I hope, that's okay?), but the translations need proofreading. I tried to compare different fan and machine translations and choose a wording that is as close to the original as possible but still gets the meaning of the quote. This is much harder than I thought Making screenshots of the draft has become too complicated, so I decided to create a user sandbox on Wikiquote and update the draft there. Regarding #3: “For the sake of this dream, we must go through innumerable trials and hardships.” I really like this quote, but the translations vary a lot here and I wasn't sure, which one to pick. @fyere0 I included some of the NYT quotes, too. Thank you very much for the links! @SitTwizzle I just added some quotes from the Olympic Channel, yours included. You can find them on the draft page. It would be great, if someone knew the primary sources of those quotes. Don't worry about contributions, your post has been a big help already I added the "since 1952" in the introduction text. That definitely makes sense. I think, you're right and we should choose the characters according to the person's origin. In this case it's simplified Chinese then, aye? About the quote itself: I just found out that the Canadian author Jake Remington wrote a book (Wretched) with exactly this quote on the first page and he used the following wording: “Fate whispers to the warrior, 'You can not withstand the storm.' The warrior whispers back, 'I am the storm.' " In a Q&A section Remington answered that he made a lot of research regarding that quote. The original author is unknown, but the quote is often attributed to Genghis Khan. Maybe we should use the translation "withstand" for 抵御 in this case? The rest is pretty close to what we had as well. I'm not sure about past/present forms, though.

Personally, I would prefer, if the font size of the source was smaller than the quote. However, the current layout guidelines say that italic font is reserved for the original wording of non-English quotes: "Quotes should be formatted as a bulleted list, each quote on its own bullet, with no quotation marks. Citations and any notes, such as translation or context, should follow in a sub-bullet. If a quote is not in English, it should be italicized. In that case, especially for non-Latin scripts, a transliteration is often useful." And yes, I agree that those two quotes you mentioned only work in the context and do not really fit the page. The quote from Amino Vital would be a good one for the category attributed or disputed, what do you think? @SitTwizzle @Veveco In a way "Vamos, Javi!" is part of the quote from the farewell speech already, just in reversed order: "Ganbatte, Javi! Vamos!" It might be a bit repetative to put that in twice, what do you think? It's an iconic shout out nevertheless.

Aye, it's from Roman I wasn't sure, if I should include it or not, but I remember many people quoting him on Twitter, so I put that in, too. Sadly, I don't know the time stamp, because I don't understand a single word of that video xD Thanks for pointing out the spelling mistake. It's updated in the draft already (shame on you, Henni...) The thing with pictures on Wikipedia is: I can only insert pictures that are uploaded in Wiki Commons and I'm not sure about uploading other people's work on that platform. If that person would volunteer to share his/her photos on Wiki Commons and create a gallery there... THAT would be amazing. Wikipedia would be extremely grateful, too, because the current archive is... not overwhelming. Footnote: I don't want to upload the draft, until the section with Yuzu's quotes has a decent length. 4-5 quotes are not enough by any means.

I took this weekend to expand the draft of Yuzu's page on Wikiquote, mostly with English comments about him. Well, according to the guidelines of Wikiquote, the only parts of the article that should be explanatory, are the introduction text and optional subsection headers (which should be as short and objective as possible). The entire rest of the article should consist of a list of quotes only. I would really like to write a paragraph about the depth and impact of Yuzu's quotes, but I fear, it wouldn't fit Wikiquote's requirements... My experience with "official" or "reliable" sources is that they are either incomplete, inaccurate, stolen from fans (hello Olympic Channel) or... don't exist at all. Even the subtitles in the official CBC interview were pretty poor. I had the feeling that they only translated every second or third sentence. With simplified wording. If I could, I would translate Yuzu's quotes myself, but my Japanese skills are too poor for that. Wikipedia has its own team of translators, who are ready to help out with one or two quotes, but I cannot expect them to translate a whole page of quotes. So the only option remaining is fan translations, but I need explicit permission (that's why I didn't dare to publish the draft with your text). Quick info about quotes on Wikipedia and partner projects: The most important thing is that you write down the exact quote in its original language and name the source with its publication date. If the orginal language is not English, you must add an English translation, preferably from a "reliable" source, but you are free to add your own as well. Usually Wikipedia authors do not put their name under a translation, but it's permitted. However, if you click on "view history", every edit on the page and every author (username) is listed with exact time and date. The system is quite transparent in that regard. By the way. Thank you so much! This is exactly the source I needed. I created a draft on wikiquote following their (very strict) layout and quotation guidelines. For me the most important thing is that both the original wording and the translations are correct and accurate. I haven't published the draft yet (with only 3 quotes it's a bit poor at this point), but I think, with everyone's help it could turn into something promising.

The truth is... When I edited the video with Yuzu's famous quotes, I couldn't find all original sources either, this one included. I wish, there was a page, where you can find his best quotes with the exact source, original wording and accurate translations... (ideally in chronological order). Since Yuzu's words have such deep meaning and impact on so many people all over the world, maybe we as his fans could use the current drought to do something like this. I would actually volunteer to create a page for him on Wikiquote. I think, that is currently the best platform to collect and present quotes from famous people. It's a website that everyone can access and edit, so it's easy to expand the list of quotes at any time. Also, it can be linked directly with his Wikipedia article, so it's more likely that people will actually view and read it. Do you think, it's a good idea?

I don't know what is the biggest clownery in this whole story: 1. The fact that Nathan beat Yuzu with +40 points in Torino. 2. The fact that JSF watched this travesty in silence without doing anything. 3. The fact that of all people it must be G***haguet who speaks up for Yuzu and questions JSF's sanity.

Well, actually the short program is something like an artistic program at the moment. There are only three jump elements in 2:50 minutes, so there is enough room and energy left for a well-rounded and artistically strong performance. Truthfully, I enjoy the short program much more than the free at the moment. There are more clean skates and also more polished programs overall. The freeskate appears more like an obstacle course with 7 jump elements in 4:00 minutes. You just try to get through and stay alive. I think, what will actually happen after the introduction of the new system is the following: 1. The order of the current short and free will be flipped. 2. The freeskate will be another 60 seconds shorter. 3. Skaters with only one quad or none will be sorted out after the first round and only the jumpers will be left to battle for the artistry crown. Maybe skaters like Jason, who get high GOE and PCS at least, might qualify for the second round, but the stellar gap to the top will be impossible to close. I can imagine, if Nathan goes into the artistic program with a +100 point lead over Jason after the technical, Jason's motivation is... well. Skaters like Deniss Vasiljevs or Donovan Carillo will probably not make the qualification at all. I recommend the ISU to listen this one single time to the wise words of their greatest skater: "A solid technique is the foundation of artistry." There is no art without a technical basis, nor is there perfect technique without artistic value. It's two sides of the same medal and it always will be. Trying to separate them is a contradiction in itself.

I just stumbled across this clip on YouTube. I've seen Yuzu hanging his Olympic medals around other people's neck, who are special and precious to him. But I think, it's the first time that I've seen it with Shuzo-san. He looked so touched and emotionally hit. It just made me tear up, too.

Let's pray for the tragic loss of another +1 Mio Yuzu-video on YouTube... I just don't understand the copyright policy of YouTube. The existence of this videos hasn't bothered a single soul for the past two years. Why the deletion out of the blue? Seriously: A video that survives more than a year without any copyright claims should be frozen and saved from future deletion waves. I cannot imagine that the IOC profits from this action in any way. But the person, who pushed the delete-button, successfully ereased another great memory of figure skating history and lowered the number of +1Mio Yuzu-videos. Again. I want to scream.

I love this sentence: "The judges "radiograph" each element in a scoring system that rewards the most complete athlete." So this is what Spanish newspapers naively believe, what skating fans pray for every day and what just doesn't happen in reality. This is so sad. I wonder, if Yuzu will get the chance to be rewarded properly one more time in his career. The last season, where his scores pretty much reflected his quality was 15/16 and maybe the first half of 16/17. I wonder why. Might have something to with a certain skater, who turned senior and beat Yuzu that season... @rockstaryuzu I wonder how popular Boyang in China is, compared with Yuzu. I really don't know. But 290 mio views is quite something. It's 20% of the Chinese population. Not easy to beat, even for Boyangman. #Footnote: Of course, I will root for Yuzu, if he decides to compete in Beijing. But if there's any other skater, I would be very happy for, it's Boyang. His raw technique is one of the best in the world and he gave so much to the sport. In PyeongChang he was really close to the podium and finished in that unfortunate fourth place. I wish him with all my heart to be successful at home and win a medal at least.
