  1. Okay, there are four options now: 1. The Ice Scope had a truly big bug the last two seasons 2. My glasses need an urgent upgrade 3. I can't read numbers correctly 4. This is some very blatant fake news.
  2. Yes, I remember that special tribute, too. Usually it's the coaches who support and comfort their students. It's always great to see that the support can be mutual as well, especially in such hard times. It's very rare that a skating program can touch my soul this way. Requiem and Haru Yo Koi, Keegan's tribute to his deceased brother or Jason's Schindler's List. They could do that, too. In different ways. Creating this moment of silence and peace. This is something that is immeasurable in points. I guess, this is only possible, if there is a personal, life-changing experience behind your performance. When you really know, what you're talking - or skating - about. That gives your program its substance.
  3. I cannot say often enough how much Notte Stellata means to me. It is the program that brought me to this sport and made me a fan. It is the program that inspired me to create so many artworks. But above all, it is the program that helped me to overcome the grief of losing my grandma two years ago and my aunt this summer. This week we got the phone call that my grandpa probably has only few days left, but due to the strict Corona regulations we are not allowed to visit him in the old people's home for the time being. It makes you feel so helpless, when there's nothing you can do, just praying and waiting for news... and again, rewatching this program somehow calmed and comforted me. Again. How amazing is that - a skate that can heal wounds, soothe pain and give you solace, when nothing else can. What a special skater and powerful program that must be. I am so grateful.
  4. I'd like to share my thoughts about Yuzu's new programs and the general mood: More than anything, I wish from the bottom of my heart that Yuzu can truly skate for himself again. I wish that his new programs will highlight his strengths, suit his skating style, rhythm, stamina and - above all - his personality as a skater and person. I hope that Yuzu won't let himself down and will be able to enjoy his performances regardless of the scoring. No matter what they take away from him, that they cannot take away his passion and love for this sport. I hope that he will pull a Dumbledore and be like: 'I don't care what they do as long as they don't take me off the Chocolate Frog cards.'
  5. That would be allowed, yes. Fun fact: If he used that layout and included the stag leap (1-foot-Axel) in the step sequence again, he could theoretically jump all Axels from quad to single in his SP
  6. No, it would be a totally valid solo jump. The solo jump can be any quad or triple according to the rulebook, it just has to be different from the Axel jump and the two jumps in the combo. The Axel jump must be a 3A or 2A, but that doesn't interfere with a 4A as the solo jump.
  7. Oh, I can totally see Trollzuru trolling at his very best, doing only Axels and Toes in his SP. It would be a fully valid layout after all. 4A 3A from a standstill X 4T+3T
  8. Whatever the background of this post is. It DID make me overwhelmingly happy. Right here, right now.
  9. Thank you! I'm not an expert in French, so I'm relying on your knowledge here. I corrected the wording on the page now. @Geo1 I added the CBC comments from GPF 2014. I hope, they're right Other new quotes in the live commentary section: Carol Lane 2016, Mark Hanretty 2018 and quotes from Skate Canada 2019. The live commentary section (and the "quotes about"-section in general) probably needs some clean-up in terms of notability/neutrality. Please feel free to discuss, which quotes should stay and which can be dropped.
  10. Finally!! Yuzuru Hanyu has an official page on Wikiquote now!! https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Yuzuru_Hanyu I'd like to thank everyone, who has contributed something to this great collaboration project so far! You were all amazing!! Special thanks to @sweetwater for your incredible research, transcription and translation work! Of course, the page is still far from being complete. As long as Yuzu is breathing and skating and talking in public, this is an ongoing project and everyone is invited to discuss, change or expand the page. However, let's celebrate Yuzu's entry in one of the world's biggest libraries of famous quotes and sayings! Also, 9 more posts to go until page 6000 here in the General Chat!
  11. Hi everyone! Sadly... my computer, 8 years old and reliable companion, passed away this week... and with him the last permanent license for Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. So, I will not be able to produce new video clips and other digital artworks for a while One of the last montages that I created with my old friend was a flashback video of Yuzu's skating since Pyeongchang 2018. Retrospectively, I'm so glad that I made it in time. When I listened to the lyrics of this song, I had to think of Yuzuru immediately. Especially the return of the Biellmann spin in Torino made me sob and smile again
  12. @sweetwater Your research work deserves a gold medal really I'd actually like to add that quote from Dai in the "quotes about"-section, if it's available somewhere? I think, it's a very interesting quote. About the "winning/losing" quote: Well, it's a big difference to say "aiming for the highest is my current priority" or "that's my main goal in general". I feel that the Quote Book failed to distinguish precisely there and that's why this quote appears like a contradiction to the "losing is like death"-quote. In context they don't contradict each other at all. I'm almost tempted to exclude that one from the Quote Book section, what do you think?
  13. Thank you so much! I added the original wordings in the Quote Book section and corrected that one source from 2009 Also, I shortened the first quote and skipped the second part with the "kuyashii" phrase, but if you feel that it belongs there, too, I can add it anytime. One important question to everyone: the proofreading team discussed whether the "losing is like death"- quote should be included or not. Pro: It's an impactful quote that has been recited by many magazines and online sources. Con: It's been controversially discussed among media and fans and may confuse some readers (especially since Yuzu's seemingly contradicting his 17-year-old self who said: "It’s not a problem if I win or lose. What’s important and what I hold in the greatest regard is whether I did or didn’t try to aim for the highest."). I'd like to hear your opinions about this, too. PS: An admin gave green light to the handling of translations and sources. I'd like to polish and check the quotes that we have, so that the draft can be moved to the main space until Sunday. Finally!
  14. I will ask the proofreading team how to handle the translation of this quote. I added the quote from the Iwate special 2016. However, I skipped the part with Hana wa saku, because it would need too much additional information and I think, the quote works without that, too. What do you think? Also, I created an additional section for the Quote Book with some of Lae's translations and the original sources where available. She took photos of the original wordings, too, but I can't type them. I would be very happy, if someone helped out with that
  15. @sweetwater You are an angel, thank you SO much for all the original wordings, translations and sources!!! I included/completed the Blue Flame II, CBC, Figurepedia and People's Honor Award quotes already. About the Figurepedia quote: I skipped the first part of the quote, because it indeed seems to be a bit isolated from the rest and the quote works without that one sentence, too. What do you think? I didn't have much time yet, so I have to go through the suggestions in your latest post, but I'll try to add them soon News: it seems to be possible to cite fan translations on Wikiquote, I just have to figure out a smart way of distinguishing them from official translations. EDIT: I found an official translation of Abe's speech that looks quite accurate, too, so I took that one instead. I hope, that's fine?
  16. Thank you very much for your help and all the amazing contributions so far Short update on the project: draft page 1. I decided to give the Scott Russell interview an own section, since there are multiple great quotes from Yuzu in that broadcast. However, I wasn't able to type the original Japanese wording myself. It would be great, if someone helped out with that. Same goes for a quote from 2020 about music. Here's a video with Japanese subs for orientation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROnyIi4ib54 2. I restructured the "Quotes about"-section by creating four new subsections: Live commentaries from competition broadcasts Quotes from Hanyu's coaches and training partners Quotes from other skaters, coaches and experts Other quotes about Hanyu The last three are sorted alphabetically by surname. I thought that this makes it a bit easier to get an overview of the people that are already included, what do you think?
  17. Great news: Joy, Fukuhana and @amyuzu1012 all joined the team! We created a group chat on Twitter to introduce them to the project. It's never too late I added both quotes to the draft. I hope, it's okay that I used your English translations? Truthfully, the translation from OC did not make much sense to me...
  18. With some help from fellow fanyus we managed to expand Yuzu's article to an impressive size of + 36.000 bytes within a week! Thank you so much I think, the time has come to review the notability of the quotes that we already have: Please feel free to suggest quotes for deletion, where you think that they don't quite fit the page and give a short reason. Especially the "quotes about"-section has to be cleaned up, it's more like a container at the moment. Which quotes should be highlighted and chosen as picture captions? I've done that a bit randomly so far and I'd like to hear your opinion. Here is the latest version: Draft (updated) When we're finished with that, the draft can finally be moved to the main article space! I'm really looking forward to that!
  19. Definite big yes. We can and should only include quotes from that book, where we know the exact primary source like an interview, press conference etc. (with date). And yes. We can and should mention the quotation book as an important secondary source. The existence of a printed quotation book is a very strong indicator that Yuzu is a quotable person in general and it's legit to create a page for him on Wikiquote. This is not a given. Also, every quote that is included in this book, can be labeled as noteworthy. But you're completely right, we must not copy the whole book. We have to make a smart selection and I like your suggestions. The less annotations are needed, the stronger is the quote itself. Amino Vital CM: this is a typical quote that belongs to the section "attributed/ disputed quotes". It's a quote that everyone associates with Yuzu, but it's not clear, whether it's actually from himself or not. All we need is the CM source, the original Japanese wording and an English translation
  20. News: A member of the small Wiki monitoring team has taken a look at the draft page and gave a quick reply: "First off, the draft is already at a very good place - so great work so far, especially with the translations. Note: I think some of the quotes in the "Quotes about Yuzuru Hanyu" section may need to be reviewed. I would mainly suggest taking out the Instagram comments. Even though those comments come from famous actors, they don't stand out to me as a general reader who is unfamiliar with Yuzuru Hanyu." When the first collecting wave in the "quotes about"-section is finished, we should have a discussion about the notability of the quotes and drop the superfluous/unfitting ones. I have an important meeting this afternoon and lot of work to do this week, so I updated the request board:
  21. @cereus @sweetwater Thank you so much! Typos and wrong sources fixed. It was difficult to separate the quotes from Aoi Hono because of the extensive bibliography and translation source. So I decided to re-group the quotes and give Aoi Hono an own section. There might be more quotes that we want to include from that book and by chronological sorting it would get chaotic very quickly. Do you like the new solution? Edit: I left the "interpreter" to make clear that it's not a written but spoken translation live at the press conference. So it's natural that it's not an exact word-by-word translation, but it contains some paraphrasing.
  22. @Veveco @sweetwater Thank you very much for your quick help I included those quotes and additions in the draft, but it would be great, if you took a quick look at the changes: Draft (updated) PS: That picture from Chopin SP 2015 is only a placeholder at the moment. I contacted Phantom Kabocha already to upload a more fitting picture from 2019.
  23. Thank you so much for the thread link on Twitter! I scrolled a little bit through it. The biggest task will be to select noteworthy quotes and search the original sources. We will probably need some help with that. I put a request board here in this thread, so that we have a quick overview of things that should be added to the page:
  24. I'd like to thank everyone, who has contributed something to the creation of Yuzu's page on Wikiquote so far. You were a very big help! The page is still far from being complete, but it's a very decent collection of quotes already, especially for this short amount of time. For those who are interested to read the latest version, here it is: Yuzuru Hanyu on Wikiquote (draft page) I will not be able to do much in the next couple of days (weeks) due to work and other commitments, but if you have suggestions or additions, please share them in the discussion thread!
  25. I have contacted kaerb/@axelsandwich via Twitter already and she allowed me to use her translations, if her work is credited somewhere. Usually non-professional translators don't get cited on the main page, only in the view history. So I don't want to add her translations in my draft, but I'll ask her, if she's willing to add them herself later in the mainspace. Thankfully, I found an article on Absolute Skating with reliable English translations of some quotes from Aoi Hono I and put them in the draft: Draft (Update) However, it would be great to have the original Japanese wording of those quotes, too (ideally with the number of the page in the book).
