Welcome!! And I have no tips to offer, with Yuzu it's always a rollercoaster ride.

Has it been posted? [NEWS] https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/1490299288768987138?s=20&t=mHUXsQqhPqAMrqJznfU_TQ edit: whoops, it has. 'Bears' repeating though!

Wow, no pressure on Yuma at all for the team event, there, eh, JSF? Although they kind of don't have a choice...still. i think Yuma will handle it well.
-
Aw, Yuma is such a good kid. And he has excellent taste in role models. I still say that an all-Japan Olympic podium is not out of the question. Depending on how things go, we could be seeing all three of them get medals.

guys, it's ISU Figure Skating that picks the judging panel, not the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee

Oh my gosh, satellites...have you all seen this? https://twitter.com/TeamCanada/status/1487120088134299653?s=20&t=aebeOV3-nf_ZHXZSj6llGw

Scoring or no scoring, I'm just going to enjoy the fact that Yuzu is giving us a third straight Olympics to watch him at. Those other guys' fans? Their faves could NEVER...
-
That or it's someone using Google Translate really badly on articles from already questionable sources...apparently they say Keegan has a daughter! Poor Wyatt, not even 6 months old an the IOC is already mixing him up with a girl...
-
It's especially weird because up until recently, it seemed like the Olympic channel social media manager was a fanyu, tweeting about Yuzu every chance they got. Surely they'd notice this was wrong and fix it?
-
The terminology isn't the best, because Yuzu is correct, technical mastery is completely necessary to art. And I don't like the term 'point-hunter' vs 'total package', because one can be a full package skater and still try to maximize the points that you get. I think we're both talking about the same thing, anyway: skaters who treat their programs as a rote recital of all their best skills, set to music, vs skaters like Yuzu who treat their program as an integrated whole, as an exquisite expression of the human spirit through the medium of figure skating. Essentially, the presence of a particular piece ofmusic doesn't matter much for the first kind of skater because they can use whatever and get the same result. But for the second kind of skater, the music is everything and dictates the form and flow of the program .

WHY did TAT have to say this? Talk about adding salt in the wound.

I'm so sad for Misha. Was looking forward to watching him. Get well soon. This pandemic Olympics is going to be a game of last man standing, mark my words

Well, usually failure is a learning opportunity, right? And isn't that how Yuzu looks at it? When he is kuyashii about one of his performances, he analyzes it and figures out what he can do better next time. Of course he gets frustrated and sometimes yells things to himself at the end of a skate like that ( see ACI '18 for an example of this), but then he turns it into a way to do better. But he always gives the very best he can in that moment - he never holds back. And that would be like you said - the 'I did as well as I could' feeling. So I'm trying to follow that example too. Plus, isn't it better to anticipate succcess, and fall short a bit, than to expect and achieve failure? In the first case, you'll only taste the failure once, but in the second, failure is with you from start to finish. I'd rather be the first way, myself.

For me, the defining difference is fearfulness. Excitement and anxiety feel physically the same, but emotionally speaking, if there's an underlying fear of loss or of harm, then I'm anxious. If I'm anticipating/expecting something positive, then I'm excited. So to 'flip the script' so to speak, I need to move from fear to anticipation. 'I don't know how I'll do, I hope I do well' becomes 'I can't wait to see how I'll do, I know I'll do well" .

For me, this is the dividing line between technique and artistry. If your progran is such that you can move elements in it around at will, you're a technician, not an artist-athlete. Unless, like Yuzu used to do, you actually plan and train 2-3 different layouts just in case...
-
By the way, raise your hand if you've started following Yuzu's example in your own life. I've started telling myself that nerves are a sign that I'm ready and excited to do well, and that people wouldn't put pressure on me if they didn't think I was capable...it makes a remarkable difference to your mindset, everyone needs to try it...
-
@lynnidolz What @Pammi and @Umebachi said. I also am getting nervous because of all the hype building around 4A, but Yuzu has said in interviews in the past that he does take all the pressure and expectations that are on him and turn them into energy, so I think he has already taken into account the possibilities of the situation and has accepted them. Therefore, I'm going to trust Yuzu and try to ignore the noise. He will jump 4A, of that I am certain.

If only figure skating news coverage could be like this: https://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/ts/sports/olympics/2022/01/24/chairmen-of-the-boards-japanese-team-powerful-in-halfpipe.html

So, at this rate, is it going to be the Beijing Olympics we watch, or the first International Multidisciplinary Academic Symposium on Extreme Human Achievement in Figure Skating through Creating and Landing the 4A with Yuzuru Hanyu, B.Sc*° as convenor? They're all going to be in Beijing anyway, might as well get the research done *does anyone know what Yuzu's academic letters are? Is he Bachelors or Masters? ° thanks @Geo1

That's the spirit!

Safe travels!!! For everyone!!! Apparently the Chinese are using a 40 cycle PCR instead of the standard 35 cycle one - which will make it more difficult for those with recent, resolved infections, to pass. This could affect a lot of athletes, not just skaters, and kill their Olympic dream at the last minute.
-
I can sympathize, for me the Men's SP starts during the last two hours of a work shift I may not be able to get away from.

...but it makes a great bookmark!

No. There are strange people on the internet who steal Yuzu's image and have it printed on things, that they then sell on Amazon, just because he's popular. Clearly gold is MUCH better. I mean, look at how young he looks!
