  1. Wow, he looks great! Mountains are the place to be, it seems.
  2. I keep getting reminded that my only chance to see Yuzu live this year is probably Worlds, if he decides to go...
  3. It must be frustrating for him to be so close and yet so far. Imagine how he'll feel when he finally lands it.
  4. Hey come on now! He already knows how to make perfectly amazing hot chocolate confections!
  5. I spent 9 years of my life making my living by lifeguarding and teaching other people to swim. Based on my experience, someone with Yuzu's apparent body composition will have an extremely difficult time learning to float comfortably. Their legs and arms will sink more easily, forcing them into a more vertical position in the water from the start. If not taught how to compensate for this by an instructor with a thorough understanding of human buoyancy and the lack thereof, it's simply harder for a very lean and muscular man to learn how to swim, because they're fighting their body's own physics. Also, men and women have completely different buoyancy. Females, even very skinny ones, still have a different distribution of body tissue, including fat, which naturally helps them to float in a more horizontal and relaxed position, which facilitates learning to swim. You simply can't compare the challenges, it's two different beasts. That doesn't mean it's impossible. Just that it makes things harder than for, say, someone with the physique of a baby seal. Understand that I have personally taught a good few hundred people how to swim in my lifetime - many from scratch. I have witnessed the phenomenon I describe multiple times. It's my best, educated, guess that this might be one of the difficulties Yuzu has with swimming, but I can't say for sure as I have never taught him to swim. I think it's totally cool that Yuzu tried swimming for a way to improve his 4A. Even if it didn't work, now he knows a way that doesn't work - like Thomas Edison and the ways to make a light bulb. That's terrible. I hope the rain stops for you soon!
  6. As any lifeguard will tell you, there are definitely people out there who can take 10minutes to go 25m...but they're usually chatty old ladies who have draped themselves over flutterboards and are having a leisurely talk with a friend as they paddle along.
  7. Just a reminder to all my dear satellite friends: Planet Hanyu is fully equipped with an 'ignore user' function, which can be deployed to completely block all content posted by any user you chose to ignore. You can find this utility in your account settings. Please feel free to use it as appropriate and/or desired, for the sake of your own peace of mind, if nothing else. And thank you greatly to the mods/ staff for equipping the Planet with said very useful function!
  8. I honestly would love to read Kikuchi-san's book. From what I gather about him from the snippets and bits I've seen, he has a very unique perspective and ideas about physical training. The upturned bucket on wheels that Yuzu rolled around on in the warm-up room at PC being one example.
  9. But the choreo would be highly difficult to translate to the ice. I love Not Today, and I honestly think choreographing it for ice would a major major challenge.
  10. Jonghyun's story is such a sad one. My hat is off to Shinee for continuing on without him, and not replacing him. That must be so difficult.
  11. His body is probably trained to that and messing with it might cause issues. Having a solid, routine schedule is a big part of athletic success
  12. He might not own it but he paid for a sizeable chunk of it with donations over the years. My guess is, they'll happily give him whatever he wants there.
  13. Either ludicrously low or more than 4A, whatever ISU figures is the bigger power trip for them.
  14. Jessica Simpson said the same thing once in an interview - in high school no one wanted her to participate in school events requiring singing, because she made all the other kids l ĺl Ï Edit: no prizes for guessing that I fell asleep over my phone while trying to post this, I guess! What I meant to say was, she made all the other kids look bad.
  15. Yuzu looks so good in those soft and flowy sweaters. What a sweet video! @Henni147 You & your collaborators did a really great job, something to be proud of. 🥰 This is making me think of what my old Strengths of Materials prof told us in engineering school, when we had all flunked a midterm and wanted him to adjust the grades accordingly. He was a strict old Egyptian guy and I think he had little tolerance whatsoever for our lazy attitudes. "It is not I who should lower my standards, " he said, effectively shutting down the discussion. " It is you who should raise yours." And that was that. When people like Yuzu or Simone get underscored because they're so far ahead of the rest, then rather than trying to tie them down to everyone else's level, the rest should raise their standards and try to do better, and the judges too.
  16. A new one? Not just PW Yuzu in the Origin 2 costume? Because I think it's high time Mme. Tussaud's got a hydroblade Yuzu figure going...
  17. Aw crap. At least Skate Canada acted quickly.
  18. To be a required element for senior men's FS in 2023...competitors to be judged on volume, pitch, vocal projection, emotional content, whether the scream fits the theme of the program, and sincerity of effort.
  19. Of course! And Yuzu never forgets the people and places and things that helped him.
  20. Definitely not. I think Yuzu has made the right decision. It still makes me sad that he's not going to be back here for a long time yet.
  21. Pretty much. To start with, non-essential travel is refused, so everyone entering has to prove their reason for coming in. On top of that, all travellers arriving by air have to provide proof of a negative COVID test result taken within 72 hours of boarding the plane. On arrival in Canada, another test must be taken, and (currently, anyway) travellers must isolate, at their expense, at a government designated hotel for another 72 hours, before heading to their final destination, at which point they must continue the quarantine until at total of 14 days have passed. It's all big pain for anyone arriving, and it's main purpose to discourage people from even thinking of traveling here until COVID is over. And travel direct from certain countries with bad outbreaks, like India, is outright banned for the time being. Travellers arriving by land from the US have a slightly different requirement - they have to do the 14 day quarantine but all the rest is waived. So if Yuzu went to US first, he could then drive here, but he'd still have arrange something to do in the US first. Until two weeks ago, all Canadians returning to Canada had to go through the same process. Now the quarantine requirement has been lifted for fully vaxxed Canadians who can prove they're vaccinated, but I believe you still have to have the negative COVID test
  22. I have not, I only read the other, more dramatic translator...I should have realized and known better... Ugh. Still though, the longer he's away, the worse it gets.
  23. This is exactly why I didn't expect him to come back just yet, but thinking it myself and hearing him say it for real are two different things.
  24. Not necessarily. It could just be his evolution as an artist and athlete. While I agree that he still needs coaches for that outside perspective and the whole "two heads are better than one" thing, he doesn't have to come to Canada to get that, either. Under current circumstances, someone could go to him for a bit, too.
