Yuzu new SP speculation: what if he brought back Sing Sing Sing, only revamped to match his current skill level, and made it into a real razzle-dazzler? Not only would he be coming full circle on his career but he'd be trolling all the people who slag him for recycling with a massive flex.

I don't know. Pairs is a whole different ballgame. There's more to it than just being a really good singles skater and finding a guy to toss you around the ice. I think Evgenia would have to change her personality to some degree, to be successful in pairs. the irony of all this is, if she were with any other fed than Rusfed, she wouldn't even have to sit out - the country would be falling all over itself to help her through whatever she needed. Just goes to show how Russia has an embarrassment of riches in ladies. To be honest with you though, I think she got some really really bad advice last year about what to do after Worlds was canceled and in the long run it cost her everything. had she hunkered down in Toronto, I think she'd still be in contention, even with all the interruptions in training due to lockdowns etc. I mean, look at how Jason has prospered. Also, I'm not going to count her out until she counts herself out. Someone as determined as her to win? if there's a way, she's got the will.

I'm wondering if the intention is to force countries to put different skaters in the team event vs the individual? Otherwise, it's not very favorable for anyone in medal contention. Like, Boyang would also be affected by this. On the other hand, for a country like Canada (or Japan) that has way more contenders than qualifying spots, being able to put an extra guy in for the team event would work out nicely. I haven't checked what the rules are for the team entry, so if I'm off-base on this let me know...

So, what does everyone think of Keiji and Satoko trying out a bit of pairs for The Ice, doing R&J? It kind of highlights how few Japanese pair skaters there are, but I also think they look nice together.

It is, however, extremely remarkable that even the government-run Chinese state TV praise Yuzu and not only that, they praise him to the skies. It points to just how incredibly special Yuzu himself is.

Joking apart, when you're at a figure skating event, doesn't it feel like the audience does play a part in the performance? More than just as the passive receiver of the show? When Yuzu skates I can totally feel how the audience's energy is flowing to him and enveloping him. It's unlike any other sport or artistic event I can think of. It feels like the skater and the audience make the performance together, somehow.

That's exactly what I was thinking, almost word for word. There's the silence of awe (the crowd), the silence of serenity (Yuzu), the silence of despair ( fill in the blank with whoever despair of ever matching Yuzu), the silence of emptiness like a desert, and the silence of fullness like a forest; all these things in one piece would be something else.

Oh, I came across that in the YT comments on his "Japan, Canada, and me" video for the Embassy of Japan. It the weirdest thing ever. The person kept insisting that Yuzu absolutely had to be a hallyu hafu because of his last name and because of where he was from in Japan. The poster was in effect making an argument that the entirety of Tohoku is part-Korean. Like wtf. So bizarre.

It would; but at the same time I'm wondering how much different it would actually be from watching Yuzu during a practice, for example. I suppose he'd have to do it from the artistic perspective of expressing every aspect of silence....which leads to the question: is a 3A or 4A silent? Can it be? I don't mean in the sense of 'does the athlete make a sound while doing it' but as an element of a program, do Axel jumps "speak", and if so, what do they say? In my opinion, 3A is an exclamation, so even visually, it is not 'silent' .

They survived. Can't say I blame him for being freaked out, though. The weather was pretty unsettled there for about a week.

0h right, it was SP we were talking about. Oh, definitely. No one should ever cut the brilliant 4'33" to a 2 minute length, like my God, everything important about the composition would disappear as if it were silence.

But he'd have to cut it to 4 minutes to fit the current rules for the free skate, and how would he ever be able to do that without wrecking the piece? I mean, John Cage wrote a masterpiece there, and every single part counts. Yuzu wouldn't want to leave out any crucial bars of the music... Your other two suggestions seem a bit like warhorses to me, even though they're not... I humbly submit for Yuzu's consideration: 5. Not Today, by BTS because any song that starts with the verse All the underdogs in the world A day may come when we lose But it is not today Today we fight! might as well have been custom written for Yuzu.
