In my opinion, so that's worth what it's worth, Javi was trashed because he was coming from a small fed which did not support him at all and no media support at all in his own country. So he was an "easy prey". On the other hand, Nathan is very well supported by his fed and the US media. Though he got trashed by the social media warriors. IMHB, none of them should have been trashed by anyone. I understood Javi words as he was worrying for the gay athletes knowing how homophobic Russian media can be, and I understood Nathan words as he was trying to prove the US homophobic you can be straight and perform in figure skating. A nice and famous fanyu on twitter who wrote successive messages about the Nathan words shows you need to stop and thing before calling him homophobic: https://twitter.com/Fran_klymydear/status/1419292702777151495?s=20 https://twitter.com/Fran_klymydear/status/1419642980194033667?s=20 https://twitter.com/Fran_klymydear/status/1419930431173152768?s=20

Exactly. I was reading your messages since mine and you worded everything perfectly.

OK, so not agreeing with you means I'm not a decent person. I let you think about this.

Does anyone knows fs.delight on twitter? I came through some "interesting" screenshots of his tweets but i cannot find his account ?

I agree with everything minus these 2 sentences : "There is nothing authentic about his skating." On the contrary I believe his skating is an authentic expression of who he is. I don't get how it would "look good on his resume.", but maybe that's just me.

I'm a Donovan fan for the same reason and I'm not a Nathan fan for the same reason. I'm a fan of skaters who can take me into their performance, whatever the discipline, though I can admire some others if they're technically great, but like admiring a sculpture from outside and not connecting to it. Nathan words were still a big surprise to me. I believe he's too much into control while he's performing, which prevents him from getting fully immersed into the music and into the character he's portraying.

I just discovered this issue tonight. I believe his answer was completely wrong and I also believe his apology was sincere, though it was obviously written by his agent so it did not sound very sincere. My 2 cents opinion is he suffered from being called gay when he was younger, every skater says it, the ones who are actually gay/LGBTQ+ as well as the ones who are actually straight, and he wants to prove these people wrong in avoiding everything that could label him gay, in music choice, performance or costume that are perceived as gayish by these ignorant people. This is the opposite of what I would do and say, but well, I'm not him and he's not me. In addition, he chose the wrongest possible way to explain his opinion, and his repetitive use of "you know" sounds to me he did not expect this question and he had not prepared an answer beforehand. An interesting point of view from a skater. I don't know her so I hope she's a decent lady.

I believe Shoma Uno also said in 2019 he would try quint Toe rather than 4A. And it was before Yuzu showed his 4A attempts in public.
-
I also love the accuracy of this answer: “I was left unsupervised.”
-
Of course Yuzu has far more fans than Nathan or anyone else. This is not new. Now that I know Yuzu said once he was overscored, I just hope this is not the reason he is underscored since. And for Zhulin, he would be nice not to speak on behalf of Westerners (me thinks of bringing a banner "Love Yuzu from all over the world" at next Yuzu competition).

The % decreases along with the difficulty of the jump, completely illogical...

Of course I will be interested, thank you for offering

Sorry dear, I bolded the part I was answering to. And it looks like the admins agree with me. Let's say you just had a bad moment. Everyone can have a bad moment. No worry.

That's mean. Imho, you should say I hop he fails rather than falling and maybe get an injury. Karma may come back at you

A typed message: Dear Yuzuru, I wish you a very happy 26th birthday full of joy. You personify figure skating in a way I believed was not possible. To finally see you in person in a competition in 2019 was a dream come true. Thank you for always being the best version of yourself and for inspiring so many people in the world. Take care. Agree. We also have Dima I think, the one with a harness one year ago, Keegan attempt. So with or without Nathan, there're still skaters trying it, and why not. Yuzu prefers competition so that will boost him.
-
I suppose you don't actually mean it?
-
hmmm....that's interesting. Although I would not agree that skaters using the extra time due to Covid19 for improvement = pushing a narrative. As for Yuzu, he just does not speak out until he's ready to blow everyone's mind. It's his choice not to talk and that's not about narratives.

Some comments are far better: Chen is a brilliant technician. Hanyu is a poet on ice. And this one is very long and well written: I think that Nathan is more of what I personally call a base-value jumper. That's saying he actually does all the jumps properly, with no cheats. Executed, but still some ways to boost GOE. I think being able to do all the quads properly (with the exception of the axel) is already a huge advantage, whether or not they deserve positive GOEs. Just the base value alone and PCS to support them puts him in contention for gold every single time. The GOEs can be somewhat inflated imo, which is a little upsetting. What's even more upsetting is how the ISU rewards so many skaters nowadays with ratified quads AND positive GOEs, when they aren't honestly deserving of the base values in the first place. Off the top of my head, the only big quad jumpers who deserve their entire quad repertoire ratified are Yuzuru, Nathan and Jin Boyang. It's a very interesting battle between them jump wise; for Yuzuru his quality is unmatched, but he's trying to up his jump quantity. Chen's jump quantity is unmatched, but he's trying to up his quality. They're both in very good spots in the Quality VS Quantity spectrum because they've got both in varying degrees. Yuzuru's repertoire is not as impressive as Chen, but Yuzu's greatest strength is his balance of difficult jumps and quality. He doesn't necessarily weild the 4Lz like Chen or Boyang does, where Chen is almost guaranteed to land his 4Lz or 4F when planned. (The only skaters to really benefit from the 4Lz is really only Jin and Nathan at this point.) Chen definitely wins quantity wise, but for quality: Yuzuru's best 4T and 4S however will top Nathan's best 4T and 4S. It's all so exciting and nerve racking because the way they'd win gold is slightly different yet evenly matched. They're both brilliant in their unique ways.

I never listen to TSL because they're too biased, and they are for all skaters, they can't even recognise narratives as long as the narrative fits their own opinion. That's said, they can have the opinion they want, I have my opinion as well...especially after seeing Yuzu 4A attempts live as I was there (and gasped at all the attempts). Well, Remember the attempt in the harness form last year, Dima, Keegan. Of course skaters are going to try it.
