Here're the options I'm looking at. Yes I have descended into madness. https://aswbe-i.ana.co.jp/rei12b/international_asw/pages/servicing/timetable/timetable_search.xhtml?aswcid=1&rand=20190317121542fz6JpdzJvL

There's an ANA flight in the air now, ten bucks says he's in it.

Is The Hanyu in the air? Has The Swan taken off?

I am so torn, I'm not ready for Worlds and also I cannot wait to see him again. His edge jumps are so wonderful, there's such little pre-rotation on them even with the mechanics of the jumps. His toe-pick is so light and quick on his toe jumps. I want to watch everything all over again now.

Not surprised at the bits about Yuzu. And to think, this is already an elite level athlete talking, compared to somebody like me who can't even stick a diet and procrastinates like a champ, Jason must have the kind of work ethic that would make me faint at even the thought of emulating. He seems to feel about Yuzu's focus and hard work the same way I'd feel about his. Amazing, our Overlord. (Also squeeeeeee Jason's 4S is coming along!)

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
WinForPooh replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Well, popular opinion seems to be that this is very unfair to Liza but fed manipulations and politics are not any skater's fault and being mean about any of them is unnecessary. Going against that can legitimately be called pretty unpleasant. -
This is clearly what we all need and I approve!

A whole new word of banoctopooh wisdom! What a day it is! That could also be calling me a Super Crank and that would also be true! -

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection

I know this situation is entirely unfair, but from another perspective... Well, from Zhenya's perspective, this is reward for everything she has been through and she has done, too. In a just world, if a skater leaves a bad situation risking everything, puts in all their effort to fix flaws they'd been called out for, suffers the natural consequences of different training and new techniques only to be trashed and dismissed by so many people as if she was a has-been, finally begins to show some of the positive effects of all the changes in competition, she should also get some reward for all that effort. It's also fair to be rewarded for taking risks to do the right thing. From Brian's perspective, he was trashed and his training methods were trashed because there were no immediate results even if expecting any was ludicrous, and now her improvement is getting tangible recognition from the federation. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with that perspective, just that from another direction, taking only Zhenya's choices into account, I can see how this could be seen as a chance for vindication, which would be fair to her and her team considering everything they have had to deal with. Without a shot at Worlds and good skates there, would she even get two GP assignments next season? What's fair about doing everything she's supposed to and then being punished for it? And the process - well, people voted and Zhenya got more votes. That's supposed to be the fairest process. The politics behind it, completely unfair. It becomes very unfair because it's not just about her. Liza has been treated very unfairly. -

Well, if Zhenya doesn't get that famed head and consistency back in a few weeks, I'd hate to see what's tossed her way afterwards. It would get pretty brutal, I think. And ugly. I really hope she does well now, so much at stake. I guess the dice have been rolled. Now it's up to her. -

And while we're at it, Tat might be influential but she is only one person, not 17, and each of the 17 people who voted for Zhenya made their own decisions there. If Tat was working the scene, they still agreed to be worked into the scene, so, yeah. I don't even want to look for any individual scapegoats.- 265 replies

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection

I don't know what more Liza could have done. She came, she won, she medaled, she landed the 3A multiple times... So she fell sick but then she recovered and landed the 3A again! Brought her flip back! Managed to land a gorgeous 3Lz-3T this season if the lack of that was a reason to hesitate! I wish I could send her a giant crown because she's my Empress, all said and done. -

She's very talented for sure but I don't think Stanislava has ever broken 200 in international competition so it's a bit of a stretch to compare her current position to Liza's. Or even Med's for that matter. ETA: After checking their scores all season, Stasya scored higher than Zhenya's lowest score of the season a total of once internationally. She scored 197.57 at GP Finland, her highest score. Zhenya's lowest score of the season was GP france where she got 192.81 and placed ahead of Stasya at 189.67. So while I agree that this is very unfair to Liza, choosing Zhenya over Stasya isn't exacly controversial. -

This is really unfair to Liza. It feels like an entirely political selection with room only for one Mishin girl. -
Judges. I'd tell you what I think of judges. But actually I was talking about the Ice Scope numbers. Well, hopefully we'll see next season!
-
This makes me so happy! It looks so good, I love him and his 3A! Too bad he's not gonna be at Worlds. It's been too long and wouldn't it be great to see the numbers on his 3A!
-
Only if it's really angry and really determined, I'd say.
-
To be a fly on the wall. Well I'd be useless, wouldn't understand more than a couple of useless words, but you get the sentiment. Honestly if I were any of those skaters I'd be considering mutiny and possibly fire.
-
She was. Well I hope this was recent but wouldn't be surprised if it was only uploaded now, either. Who even knows what's going on at this point.
-
Do we know when that was?
-
Yes, his was the only Carmen I was happy to see but it's done him no favours. And it has been cursed music. I think all that 4Lz pressure was too much and he needs a real change of scene and approach to heal from that and maybe tackle that 4Lz again sometime. Oh. Well yeah on the one hand I see the logic in that considering almost all of his students have had problems with jumps this season but on the other hand Misha is already a very good performer with excellent skating skills and can you imagine how much better he'd have become with Lambiel! A bit like how Jason's basic skills were so good anyway but now he's even better.
-
Maybe Liza's jumps count twice and tbh they should.
-
Wow this seems pretty unfair to all the athletes involved. They probably all keep their training up no matter what of course but the stress! As if being elite figure skaters wasn't stressful enough! Well he seems to have got some of his nerves together for his SPs at least? Is that improvement?
