I used to get a pass from swimming classes because of a reaction to chlorine (and because I didn't wanna!) so maybe something like that? Though I learnt to swim at very young age I haven't been swimming in... I don't remember, it's so long ago. I'm sure I can propel myself forward and not drown but apart from breaststroke I wouldn't really say I could swim.

Kyoto is 50% tourists, 45% kids on school excursions, 5% local population. And they asked me the exact same questions the kids 7 years ago did!

I made three little maids from school literally jump for joy with those koalas on my last day in Japan (I kept getting ambushed by school kids doing English homework on their excursions.) It was so cute it made the entire trip worth it. XD The one I gave Yuzu is the same sort of pose but doesn't hang on, unfortunately, and is a tad bigger. It was so cute and floofy that I had a reaaaaally hard time parting with it. I petted it so much I hope it didn't get too smooshed before he got it. If I get a Yuzu Airways boarding pass or something in the next couple of years I guess I'll know for sure if he saw it. I'm always so flawed by how nice and humble the athletes in this sport are. It's such a pleasure to follow coming from ego-loaded, macho punch-up team BS. >_> Shall we ask the judges to give him even less candy? Maybe then he'll give his twizzle entry and exit 4A 3A in a competitive program. >_>

Oh no, that makes me so happy! He looks like a perfect Zuzu! (And that calendar looks so pretty, damnit. >_<) Hopefully he received the big brother koala I left in his present box (I wonder if he sees them before they get donated.) I get what you mean about the tough scoring influencing the quality of his skating and I absolutely agree. I think it's a blessing in disguise. He's not the kind of person to blame the system but rather do everything he can to beat it. I hope like you say he can reap the rewards for it at the Olympics (and Worlds, too, please!)

24時間テレビ was a wonderul performance. The 4T of dreams! I hope he can get back to that condition soon. I'm trying not to think about it but still keep coming across pictures of the fall and him on crutches fighting back tears and my heart sinks. I hope everyone's messages of love and support were of some help to him. I know he'll be okay by Olympics - he has to be - but I hope when he shows up at Nationals it's in full health and with a fighting spirit. Even a minor fall there is going to give us all a terrible shock. (Genki is hard to translate into English without using many different words. I think we should just adopt it from Japanese to save time. )

Re: sugoi instead of sugoku, I find sugoi instead of sugoku is used so often by native speakers that I always feel self-conscious using the correct adverbial form. ETA And I think you are correct. Miterareru is the potential form of miteru which is a contraction of mite iru, I think. hahaha spinspinspin.
