Ah thank you so much! I still don't quite understand what he means by the relationship changing, unless it's as simple as he wont be competing so we wont be anxious with pre-skate tension like we were before and we will be able to be more relaxed in our enjoyment of his skating....but I doubt he meant this as he also alluded to keeping the tension going by ensuring improvement in tech skills including 4A. Any ideas?

Yuzuru addressed his fans in one of his interviews on 19th July and I read a few translations where it was reported he had said something about the relationship between he and his fans would have to change (I think he said "at some point") - am I right about this (ie have others read this translation). and if so does anyone have any idea about what he may have meant as he didn't elaborate.

I agree! In my earlier post when I asked how we missed signs of how he was thinking it was a rhetorical question, I didn’t expect answers but it’s interesting to read people’s views. However I do think Yuzuru could maybe have wanted to prepare us, even a little, for this possibility. I agree it’s easy to “see” things in hindsight, but actually Raison’s lyrics (wonderfully translated on here by @SuzyQ EDIT my memory might be playing its tricks again, maybe it was Real Face SuzyQ translated??) and Yuzuru’s own explanation of the programme was enough to plant that seed of wondering about future plans. I was one of those who thought it very telling that he never explicitly said he was going to continue competitive skating, but the lack of announcement before GP series assignments were due to come out mid July had most of us more convinced than not that he would compete. It was the tragedy of Shinzo Abe’s assassination that delayed such an announcement and of course in hindsight it is absolutely in character for Yuzuru not to make such an important announcement whilst his people came to terms with such a shocking event. Yuzuru also put so much thought into helping us all manage his announcement, by the power of his positive thinking and framing of his decision, I am so grateful to him for that, it has helped me think differently about his change in status than I otherwise would have done. The main thing, (as many of us have said already) is that despite the tears of farewell to his old life, he radiates happiness at deciding this new path.

Oh I'm a lot slower than you! I only noticed today that he had rolled up a different sleeve (unless I read your post last time and promptly forgot, which could happen given my memory lol!) Usually Japanese fans have a sharp eye for these details but I don't remember seeing any comment on it on SMS...did people engage with your hypothesis? I want to go and have a look! (I assume it's the Shizuoka thread?)

Not sure if anyone has had this discussion yet (I've not seen it on any thread though sometimes I miss stuff!) Yuzuru rolls up his white sleeve at the end of Raison, the side signifying a pure heart, loneliness is the winner? When he leaves the ice after NdP he rolls up the purple sleeve, signifying loneliness, the pure heart is the winner? My initial thoughts - this conflict he has had in recent months, years even, between remaining in competition (loneliness?), and freedom (a pure heart?) He chooses loneliness when he rolls up the white sleeve as the purple remains in it's normal state. He chooses freedom/a pure heart when he rolls up the purple sleeve and the pure heart remains in full.... Was his rolling up of his purple sleeve as he left his last performance as Hanyu-senshu ("let my poor soul just fly away from the miseries of this earth" "dance once last time for me") yet another big hint? (he gave us loads....how didn't we see?)

@Sun_Rise "Others far far behind him, he's an absolute GOAT, who should be competing and decorated with gold". I think it's maybe a great motivation for Yuzuru, to show just how fabulous and technically excellent he is to those in "authority" who treated him badly, and to show them who it is the fans prefer to watch performing. Maybe that's how I would think anyway lol! Yuzu's so nice I know, but he is also mentally tough and fierce and determined so maybe underneath his mask he might also think these thoughts. Whatever, he's going to SLAY, that's for sure!

I have seen it yes, been to the page, clicked on the shoe, converted from Japanese Yen to GBP....why?? No idea lol. Well, 'cos Yuzuru wore them that's why, seems reasonable to me! Also I was impressed they weren't too expensive, why?? I suppose because Yuzuru said ages ago he wasn't really into clothes or fashion just what was comfortable, and also because he just doesn't present as materialistic, which I like...but that is also ridiculous in a way because he is going to make a LOT of money (he already has, but I am confident he is going to make a fortune) - even so, he has a shoe that I would buy my partner (if he had any style ) BUT the most impressive thing is the shoe is called Regal, which of course as the true King of Figure Skating, he is! (no emoji with a crown so King Kitty will do fine!)
