Junior Skaters of 2020/21 Season
Lunna replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
Good luck to new pair, Polina is very good! -
Financially I think if they cancel GP ISU may not get TV money (though don't know how it works if at least part of the season is cancelled), so maybe still better to hold it without audience and with limited personnel (like press, etc.). At the same time I don't think it's possible for organizers to decide anything without consulting with country's host officials at least. So we must simply wait for decision.
-
Yes, there's less and less hope considering US is one of the strongest feds.
-
These are old ones (first was just rare). But from other photoshoot in casual clothes I saw new today (those endless archives...)
-
I think it's not only venues, it's also transport, infrastructure, top-level security etc. But sports now kinda is like partly entertainment industry, partly politics, so I don't see it going back to less money throwing.

If you google koi symbolism there's much more to it. It can be wish of luck, happiness, symbol of strength. It's also a symbol of Children's day (or more like boy's day) in Japan. I'm not an expert, so don't want to copy/paste wiki or other articles, but it's quite interesting.

Yeah, I think I've read that Oly village will be sold as apartments and about 1/4 was already sold and should be used after Games, one of the pools should become an ice rink, if I'm not wrong, so who knows how long they can hold off all the infrastructure.

I think it's Japan but not sure. This can be cuz they already had to sell part of the Oly's village apartments this year, rebuild some stadiums, so they can't prolong any longer, especially with financial crisis everywhere and sponsors might drop out too. Though it's just my guess. This will be very sad for a lot of athletes who get recognition worldwide once in 4 years. I hardly can imagine boarders being close for a such a long time, it will hit not only sports, but also tourist industry, flight industry (of course for some countries it's more important, for some less). And with open boarders the event can be held without viewers maybe. Though hard to predict anything nowadays.

Decided to continue here Hmmmm, don't see ISU to be that creative. And for now JSF didn't say anything about GPs and Challengers are not so much points. Don't know if smth can be done here. Loosing the first part of the season will hit the most countries with many good skaters like Japan/Russia/USA/Canada, for example Russian/Japanese skaters, those who will not make it to the main team - first part of the season is the only way to get SBs for next season GP series and to show skating to the international judges, for middle-level skaters from other feds it also can be a good chance for more points then let's say at Worlds.

It's possible in theory (there's usually special hotel and transport anyway), but the problems will remain if skater comes home to his training base and have to be in 14 days quarantine, that way how can he take part in second event? The only way might be two GPs one after the other for all and with the same line-up, also moving final later maybe (but that's problematic). Well, seems like we have one more month for theories.

That might require too much work, all in all FS is not such a big sport, much easier is just to stick to local comps.
-
Cuz of boarder crossing restrictions in the first place. Without these restrictions GPs without viewers will have more sense. Worlds qualifications are already decided on last year's spots and there's no qualifications for 4CC (3 spots for every country).
-
But I think that will require International judges? I just don't see the necessity of additional series if it will not have the status of international comp/will not give world standing points. Maybe you want separate series for top-athletes, but in Challengers there's usually 2-3 top-athletes at max, so you can't fill the comps only with top-level skaters, so I don't see how it will differ from selections.
-
I don't know the exact rules, but Japan already has a number of regionals/sectionals which are selections for Nats (apart from top-3 from last Nats which are given spots), so without GPs most Japanese skaters will have local comps, as for top-3 from last Nats I think they also can take part if they want. So there will be no need for extra comps.
-
I was saying about situation if GPs got cancelled then Yuzu can take part in some Japanese comps if he will want to try out programs before JNats. But maybe no sense to speculate until some decisions about GPs will take place.

Theoretically if he will not go back to Canada (which he can choose not to loose 1 month of training for quarantine in both countries), he can take part in some regionals/sectionals if he wants (if Nats will be first comp with new programs I don't want to think about the amount of pressure...)

Hey, why no prize money? I'm sure they're not big, but it's not like skaters are that reach. I think Challengers in Europe makes sense cuz boarders are slowly reopening there and I dunno if a lot of European countries have internal comps, maybe France which I heard of, but not the amount of internal comps like Japan/Russia, so skaters will not loose that competitive sense.

I wonder how much "average person" reads such articles? As long as I was causal FS viewer for a lot of years until Yuzu I only watched comps and wasn't interested in any press/articles (apart only what I accidentally saw in the news on the local TV). And even if you're causal FS viewer you have your own eyes and opinion about skating (though here I would say commentators may have more influence as it's hard to judge technique if you don't dig deep yourself). But I always prefer to form my own opinion and not to trust blindly to any press, maybe for others it's different.
-
Will be sobbing quietly somewhere near cuz we have 2 more years of Yuzu competitive skating at best and perspective is very uncertain even about next year. I know that most important thing is for everybody to stay healthy but can't stop a little selfish feelings too, cuz GP series and FS was great distraction from daily routing. But well, it's smth we can not change, so only hope for the best for next year.

The only way is to find temporary ice rink outside Japan but not everyone can afford it and some Japanese skaters have abroad training bases. But as GPs seems less and less likely to happen I wish Japanese TV would show at least parts of local regionals/sectionals.
-
But I think voting was about only 1/3 of the result and we never saw voting results anyway (in TV shows like The Voice here in the final they at least show the % voted by audience and % voted by jury and then total result). And final result was decided by jury anyway. And I am not so sure about coaches/choreographers/designers. FS is quite a small circle so all nominees are well-known and quite in demand anyway.

Finally caught up! I must say video clips are nice and Tanith and Charlie sounded nice too. Yuzu looks wonderful, I like that "Citizen look" is now official/banquet look His speech is very thoughtful as usual. But the fact that they gave award to Yuzu doesn't cancel the fact that event is very bad thought-through and if they want it that much, they can make it part of the banquet.
