If I were JSF, I would let her in regardless of this Nat. She and to a lesser extent Kaori are the only two in the team capable of getting decent scores internationally.

No? And who are Wakaba, Mai and Satoko according to you? Bystanders incapable of 210+? Who aren't doing very well this season? Since when 210+ isn't a decent score?

It's not 2019 anymore. It's not Yuzuru's situation. JNats are mandatory for everybody but world medalists. Wake up.

You are right, this is not 2019. Maybe I've relied too much on past results to make judgement.

PS: I will delete my comments. They might lead to further argument.

If it is this season, she is currently at 8th place on world's standing,

And 2nd among Japanese women, although she still needs to participate in JNats to meet the selection criteria. Seeing how JSF selected Team Japan members at JNats2013, I think Rika still has a chance to be selected if she competes at JNats, but only when she can assure she will get back in form until Beijing and when others fail to prove themselves at JNats. While most media say that she is going to withdraw, there is an article that says that Rika's still considering taking part in the official practice on 22th to make the final decision, so we may have to wait and see until tomorrow and onward to know the actual situation.

In Friends Plus aired recently, she talked about how she aggravated her injury during quarantine after Worlds as she could not receive proper care, so the sudden change of the situation regarding entering Japan lately may have affected her condition.
JSF's lack of foresight affected a lot too, as they have decided to help only Worlds medalists when they have only two medalists who medaled three years ago.

JNats in an Olympic season is bound to be heartbreaking, but this is sad. :sad4: Hope she gets better regardless of her decision on JNats.

She says that she deals with knee and back pains and is at the age when it's normal to retire, but she doesn't want to stop. She wants to show that it's possible to be active athlete after graduating from university. She still trains 3a and even 4t and wants to prove that you can do and learn them at any age.

Kyodo News article on Mone Chiba :tumblr_inline_n18qrbDQJn1qid2nw:

Next-generation skating talent Chiba inspired by hometown hero Hanyu

Quote

The Tohoku High School student grew up idolizing Hanyu and had several opportunities to interact with her childhood hero at their home rink in Sendai in northeastern Japan, playing tag and playing around on the ice after practice.

"He used to be like a big brother and a playmate," she said of the two-time Olympic and world champion who later moved his base to Canada.

Today, she says, Hanyu is a "godlike presence." But rather than admiring him from afar, Chiba is hoping to follow in his footsteps and one day match his level of global stardom, setting her sights on the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy's Milan and Cortina D'Ampezzo.

Quote

Last season, she was vexed by under-rotating her jumps, but her coach Soshi Tanaka, who has also helped Hanyu with his jumps, taught her how to convert the energy from her skating into rotation in her jumps, and that has made all the difference.

Quote

Chiba is now working on mastering a quadruple toe loop, with four rotations in the air. But first, she is preparing to make a name for herself at the senior nationals this week.

"I want to give my performance everything I've got," she said.

Figure skating: Yuzuru Hanyu says quad axel will help win 3rd Olympic gold

Excerpt:

"I'm hoping to show how far I've developed at the Olympic stage (in the past four years)," Uno said.

Kagiyama, whose father and coach Masakazu competed twice at the games, was thrilled at the chance of competing on the highest stage.

"I'll be trying to add one more quad jump before the games," he said.

In the women's field, Kaori Sakamoto won the national title for the first time in three years to book her second straight Olympic berth.

The 21-year-old, aiming to better her six-place finish at the last Olympics, said the camaraderie she shares with Olympic debutants Wakaba Higuchi and Mana Kawabe, who rounded off the podium at the nationals, will serve them well at the games.

"I want to go above sixth, get to the podium," Sakamoto said. "There's nothing to separate the three of us and I'm not thinking about leading them, but hopefully I can make them relax."

Higuchi set a total of 230 points as her benchmark at the Olympics with her triple axel being the key.

"There won't be a single competition over the next month so I'm looking to get some training under my belt that will boost my confidence," the 20-year-old said.

Seventeen-year-old Kawabe, meanwhile, revealed she was surprised to have made the cut.

"I wasn't thinking of making the Olympics at all. There's huge excitement in being able to skate on that stage," she said. "My expression falls behind my rivals and I'll be trying to express the music much better."

Four years, four seasons, for fight”
It was a long journey with ups and downs, but to see you evolving from a boy into a man is a joy for me as your teacher, coach, choreographer. To see your punching fist of the fight at the end made me smile and happy for you and your fighting spirit. I said it a few times already to you personally, but I will say it again “I’m Proud of you, Kazuki”
( For the first time I had a tear for a student, as a coach and choreographer )
#ThankYou
#HappyTeacher

P.S. #NextOne
