pairs is going to be massively difficult.

 

ice dance is actually probably a certainty. M/R have the highest result this season too so I think they should be just fine.

 

pairs? pairs is a nightmare, as there are only 4 spots anyway and several really good teams. Duskova/Bidar should be a sure thing (189+).

Alexandrovskaya/Windsor are a good option (164+) and they are going in as Jr World Champions, Ryom/Kim (169+), I think I probably go with these as options so who else? the Israeli had a good result at USI, 165+ is their pb overall too so we know right now, they're in good shape. the Austrians are there too in terms of PB (165+). the Japanese have never gone over 165, just a tad below, so it will depend heavily on what happens at that moment. this is probably the most difficult event to call.

I think Kana and Chris should be able to lock down one spotI am more curious about the men's result. Let's say if Lee does not manage to secure a spot for Korea's men, is there any other ways they can get one considering Korea is the host country?

"The host country Korea is guaranteed an extra spot per discipline if they do not qualify through the normal qualifying procedure (2017 World Championships and Olympic Qualifying competition)."

I am a bit confused here. If they are already guaranteed with at least one spot in each discipline, what is the point of attending the qualifying event? Do or do not, they will have a spot right? And does this rule automatically make them qualify for the team event?

saves broadcasting/ice time to only have 30 skaters in the short for mens instead of 31? same for 21 pairs, 26 ice dance couples etc.. im not too sure, but its easier for them to stay with the regular amount of competitors i think, rather than having one extra, plus it kinda messes up the groups??, so they try their luck at nebelhorn first and qualify as usual.

 

and no, they have to qualify their places through nebelhorn to be able to compete in the team event iirc, there's no automatic spot

no, they have to try the regular way first. If they don't succeed, only then are they allowed a host spot. The need to try the regular way first comes from the place of minimizing the number of participants.

 

for the team, the answer is no, to be short.

Is It Wrong to hope that Japan doesn't get all the necessary Spots? *dilemma*

I want Japan to qualify only because I think it gave Yuzu a lot of confidence to know he could do it at the Olympics. It might also give Uno and the Japanese ladies singles a boost as well since I think of Team Japan in Sochi only Yuzu (and Chris Reed?) is left.

Your words, not mine (but I'm echoing the sentiment... and I totally hate myself for it, especially because I don't want to wish all those fans who have tickets for the team event to miss out on team Japan). 

 

I have a thing about not watching Seniors before the GP series (with a few exceptions), but Nebelhorn isn't really breaking my rule because most of these skaters don't participate in the GP series, I think? So I'll try and follow the event as much as possible (meaning Thursday is a big no no, but hopefully most of Friday and Saturday). I'm actually kind of curious to see how Niki Wories will do. Last time I saw her, it was Not Good (the Dutch fed thought it wasn't good enough to allow her to go to Worlds), but maybe she's recovered since then. 

I actually think for men, doing a team event short on 9th is not that bad coz it is still a week away from the individual sp;  however, doing a team LP on 12th is another story.

Yeah, and it maybe helps Yuzu to have a competition beforehand -- there's over a month between Nationals and the Olympics. I'm certain he'll only do the short, anyway which leaves Shoma to do the long...or whoever is #3? Not sure Shoma wants to do the long since he's also an olympic medal contender.

@yuzuangel unlikely. If JSF kept the same rules, and they probably have, then Yuzuru should do the SP (he has the highest score) but since he holds the highest score for the FS, the person with the next highest score is on, which means Shoma. Whoever is the third man, there's no way he can reach Shoma's scores, considering the available candidates. Now they could pull Shoma, but that'd open a bit of a can of worms and it is possible Shoma himself actually wants to go for it. If they qualify for the top 5, I think he's stuck. 

 

I agree about the short, I don't think Yuzuru will mind, on the contrary. Though I'd still prefer that they switched the events around.

 

Oh btw, if there aren't enough full teams to fill out the 10 spots, Japan still has a chance to get in, so don't count that it's over if their pair misses out. We have to see how many full teams there are and then where Japan falls in the next reckoning. 

Looks like the team event is a done deal for Japan. It will benefit ladies as none of the Japanese girls has had Oly experience.
