In an interview after the performance, he said that he wanted to tell a story that many people could connect with, because (I paraphrase) he believes that as humans we can experience the same struggles, loneliness, darkness and desires. That said, I feel free to interpret the moon as the state when he doesn't rely only on himself, but draws the energy from the people who take care about him and support him. He reflects the light so that he returns it to the world, shining in the middle of a dark night as a source of hope for those who need it. As a little kid he was like the sun, bursting with joy and confidence, like a firebird. For a while his world was warm and friendly, but it didn't take long for the first wounds, scars and shadows to appear. However it was this 9yo boy, living his dream in a perfectly safe world, who, as his alter ego from the second part, eventually helped him get out of the dark, cold room of his competitive life marked by inner conflict, closed with the knob-less door.
March 1, 20233 yr GIFT was brilliant, I'm still under the influence of it all after I watched it a couple of times....and I don't know when I'll 'get out' of it. I need more time to process everything while I rewatch it again (and again). Congratulations to Yuzu on this fantastic success It's a milestone and I hope he is really satisfied with the whole show. It was so great to see 35 000 fans cheering and applauding him. He is so loved. And I thank him for providing English subtitles for the international stream, it made the whole experience completely different for sure.

Final day for my rewatching of Gift from global coding🥺 I have never seen such beautiful lacy pattern of blade marks ( during spinning and skating) on the ice surfaces and it only belong to Yuzu.The light reflection on the ice at Tokyo Dome showed a picture of blade marks made of fine at times deeper lines with ice splashes, lacy pattern (Yuzu really had excellent blade control) etc...it's just amazing🥰Something that I never got to see during Yuzu's competitive years.
March 1, 20233 yr Youtube recommended me this video where Sean Rabbitt and a Japanese FS coach based on US (sorry, don't really know who he is) comment on GIFT. They speak in Japanese, but with simple vocabulary so that the beginner like myself can follow surprisingly easily. They really loved the show.
March 1, 20233 yr I just finished another rewatch of GIFT (have to get them in while I can, only a few hours left!) and this time I only watched the Yuzu skating, dancers, and the band's live performances of LGC and the specially-written GIFT theme. What pops out: - The band was excellent. Really really excellent, and Takabe-san is clearly a star in his own right. - the dancers also did a fabulous job and someone put a lot of time and effort into their choreography, especially for the 'game over' sequence, where each dancer is doing something slightly different from the others. - focusing on the skating makes it really apparent just what a tremendous physical effort this was on Yuzu's part. That he got through all those programs with only a couple of cat-like saves on the jumps and a tiny handful of other minor slip-ups, is incredible. (Also, it wouldn't be a Yuzu program without a cat-like save or two.) He did a full competition-grade SP (Rondo) (would love to know what kind of score that would have got from fair, impartial judges), another SP slightly less seriously (LMEY), two full-length exhibition programs (Notte & HYK), two completely new show programs (the one all in flowy white - i forget the song name, and the red one, Ashura), a simplified version of his free skate POTO, segments of his free skate programs H&L and SEIMEI, a segment of Ballade, his original art piece A Fleeting Dream, a portion of Firebird, a six minute warm-up and a joyful 2 minute improv to thank the audience at the end. This man has stamina and he has it in spades.

I think he should be praised for his speed in costumes and skating boots changing for Gift show (more than 12 costumes).I can't imagine how chaotic it might be backstage.He must have a group of professional workers (lucky people) for these jobs : rehair - styling (even though he already had tons of hair wax at the start of show 😂), costumes off and donning of next one, skating boots off and retied on ( must be tedious esp. Yuzu has to remember which boot to put on first. I heard he is quite superstitious about it)..I hope there will be DVD/Blu-ray in near future for backstage shoots ( Don't know whether costumes changing part will be included😜)
