And he does present well, hitting the notes and skating to the music. At least he didn't get PCS like Jason and he didn't deserve to... and judges finally agreed .... (how on earth Nathan beat Jason on PCS, I'll never understand that one). And yeah, the GOEs on that flip are crazy. He skates to the music but we all know his SS are good on a lot of power skating. I might be a little harsh but don't like his body position/lines. Jun needs a 4combo to be able to win
March 25, 20233 yr Man, if only Yuzu wasn't chased out of comps. He would have eaten this comp up. Those qualities of his are so very dearly missed. PS: I need to see his Suiheisen or Kibou no Uta programs skating in full and at rinks of this size. Stats

Yes Yuzu is the only one to have 4 and performance! Shoma is so overrated, lacking tech on his jumps in a empty quite boring program ISU is in a big dilemma now: Either to let figure skating go dooming ( aim for ice jumping and lose the audiences with empty arenas) or give proper scores to skaters with interesting/artistic performances. Hopefully, we can see a clearer picture next season🙏
March 25, 20233 yr Since when giving high points to SU becomes rewarding yuzu type of skating. SU's always been undeservedly rewarded as JSF's fav even when yuzu's still an amateur skater. And he never has yuzu type of skating. No one in men's field has yuzu type of skating. For IM's pcs, wait till his second senior year. ISU never disappoints.

Hopefully, we can see a clearer picture next season🙏 This year has been a real cross roads for the governing body, feds and skaters. Glad to see at least one skater with decent skating skills on the podium, well done Jun Jumping can be very exciting, but not so much if it becomes the sole focus of a skate, not even going to grant such skating with the classification of being a programme, because it is not. For a tiny moment there was a little concern that empty jumping could grab silver and then be touted as being better than Yuzu at same age, winning bronze. Young Yuzu winning bronze at World's 2012 with a rich and full programme, laced with the raw emotion of a young impulsive Romeo, fighting on despite the slip, looking back puts the jump fest to shame. Scoring is still an issue with rotation - pre and under, edge calls or not, height and distance, exit speed to achieve bullets needs a complete overhaul. This is 2023, camera and AI tech is readily available. Pretty much all sports are developing technology appropriate for good quality adjudication suitable to the individual sport and involving experts in the relevant fields to ensure that it done correctly. The paying public are becoming increasingly vocal about the many and varied controversies and no longer can be dismissed by those in charge. There has been much discussion about this, but inevitably if the sport is to survive people want to see a genuine and fair competition where skill and a little luck win the day.

Still remember how everyone reacted when ISU removed TR and IN from PCS last year claiming they will be covered by other components. Maybe it's my memory to blame.

Still remember how everyone reacted when ISU removed TR and IN from PCS last year claiming they will be covered by other components. Maybe it's my memory to blame. As you say, it was 'claimed' at the conference that TR and IN would be incorporated into other categories and a multiplication factor applied to PCS to calculate score. It was also stated that special movements would be rewarded as part of choreo seq. Again it was reducing the need for a complex programme, for skaters who are not able to execute such movements well. One such example, from a few months back. Someone wrote a very comprehensive article about doughnut spins and it was quite obvious to see from the shape of the spin, some skaters just flexed the leg at the knee joint and grabbed the skate, but the doughnut shape was lacking because the form lacked the 'O' shape in so much as there was no hyper extension of the back to create the 'O' shape. The poorly executed doughnut was awarded high score - GOE and contributed to high PCS score even though the bullets were not achieved. From this it is possible to consider the adequacy and consistency of adjudication of individual elements which make up a programme and whether the human eye is perceptive to make such judgement.
March 25, 20233 yr At least someone (and that second security guard of her) is having a blast PS: Put him in a meme. IDC. Best thing to come out of this Worlds
March 25, 20233 yr I was happy that they rewarded "Yuzu's type of skating" meaning skating that was balanced as opposed to only jumps. They didn't give all the PCS marks to Ilia just because he has all the quads. I didnt mean the others skated like Yuzu. Obviously no one skates like Yuzu. He blended technical with PCS better than anyone. i meant that during the last Olympic cycle we saw certain skaters get a boost to their PCS because of their quads, so people thought this was the future: you have hard quads and you get good PCS. That didn't happen here. Instead, the other skaters who are well balanced and skate well in all areas, quads and PCS, got the marks. And Jason, without a quad, got rewarded here too... and we know Yuzu loves his skating. It wasn't all about the jumps. Shoma does have strong skating skills, as does Junhwan... ilia does not, so he dropped placement. For this year, the judges got it right... for the future, who knows. I think the pre rotation issue really has to be addressed Too... and I would love for technical things measurable by tech, like height and distance on jumps, to be incorporated into the scoring. Was the judging perfect? No. But it was better than in other years and is leaning in a better direction than many feared. Obviously we will see if this shifts again.
March 25, 20233 yr Jason always gets good pcs scores and GOE. His PCS was many times even higher than Yuzuru's in same competition, in the era when Rocket Man was the best artistic program (then it all makes sense isn't it). To me his scores only show that you can get high marks without quad if you have right passport. And I don't recall Yuzu ever mentioned he loves Jason's skating. I went to check NC's first senior year (2017 WC). His PCS was 84.78 for long, also 6 quads. Then in 2018 he got 91.84. Just wait and see.

I not really a Jason Fan but he does have solid SS and technic. We talk a lot about Americans get scores because of Passport but where does Shoma come in? He is so overscored as Japanese, why? To me Shoma more overscored than Nathan!

To me Shoma more overscored than Nathan! Shoma is JSF's fav child basically (same with Kaori compared to Mai but i actually really like kaori so we'll ignore it)... I wouldn't go as far as to say he is more overscored than Nathan, but at least Nathan had good take off technique, shoma's technique is so off, most of his quads are prerotated and under, his "4 flip" is not a quad nor a flip and still it gets positive GOE, this should not happen it's wrong to other competitors that actually follow the rules. He does have really solid SS even tho most of his programs are empty and full of crossovers. Really happy for jun, he had the best free of the night for sure. 1 hour ago, JanMary said: To me his scores only show that you can get high marks without quad if you have right passport. I agree that Jason only gets the scores he gets because he is american and judges like him, but i'm not mad about it because he really should be getting the highest PCS in current field, the only one who deserved more than him (in the past quad) was yuzuru. It's not like he can challenge the top men with his tech anyway so just give him the PCS he deserves. Also, maybe yuzuru hasn't gone out of his way to express his love for jason's skating publicly but just the fact that he was invited to NS is enough to tell me that Yuzu does admire his artistry and style of skating in some way.

I guess Yuzu also admire the artistry and style of the Mura and hula hoop lady then. We never know who invited them, to me the NS show is very FaOI-Makabe style. 29 minutes ago, Jolanda said: To me Shoma more overscored than Nathan! Both are overscored and I don't think we should be sidetracked to argue "who is less overscored".
