Fantasy on Ice 2022 in SHIZUOKA

I posted this on the General forum originally but maybe I should have posted it here:

I found an interesting analogy of Raison in the Demon Slayer Game/Series.  Open to interpretation, it seems like an analogy for the costume and theme for Raison can be found in Demon Slayer, a game Yuzu is said to like. The game/series is about keeping one's integrity while being attacked by evil (corruption in figure skating). Apparently, a demon slayer bite by a demon becomes gradually more purple around the wound. It is here I am thinking about his costume with dark purple on the left side/arm radiating outward (? from Yuzu's wound).

Taken from cbr.com: "Towards the end of the Demon Slayer series, some of the most powerful demon slayers started to acquire a demon slayer mark. This mark appears on the body of a powerful demon slayer, and appears to be a tattoo or a birthmark that reflects the breathing style that they use. Once it appears on one demon slayer, the mark inevitably appears on others.”

The mark grants the user increased power, as well as the ability to slow the regeneration of demons. In order to activate it, the user must go through life-threatening conditions, and will inevitably die when they reach the age of 25.  Despite the increased power, it reduces their life span due to the strain on their bodies. Not every demon slayer was able to gain a mark, but they would have greatly benefited from obtaining one during their battles.

Does this sound familiar or what???

I even found a picture of a demon slayer with similar purple markings:

I have read the entirety of Demon Slayer and even have the artbooks (ufotable’s + the manga author’s), so I can chime in a little.

Spoiler

I don’t think Yuzu was making a homage to the manga / anime per se. I think the theme of visible corruption is quite common in some type of stories in japanese media - Demon Slayer is very buddhist influenced - so he might have simply got the idea in a general way. I think a homage would be much more obvious since Demon Slayer is so popular.

The illustration showed there in the link is of one of the Demon Slayer hashiras, but others, including the protagonists, have marks of different colors and in other parts of the body. Stars, flames, flowers…

Anyway, just my opinion as someone who actually enjoys Demon Slayer, he might as well come up and say he was inspired by it after all.

I think this was the ad for today’s broadcast:

This looks like new footage?

The Opening looks different from Shizuoka Day 3, and the camera angle for the Raison snippet is different from Day 3. For Makuhari, BS Asahi showed a different day, so hopefully they will show a different day for Shizuoka as well.

Not day 3 at least!
