Right? I feel like I can connect emotionally as a human being with men's programs because they're not so bloody sexualised or obsessed with delicacy and supressing their power. Those female skaters are so strong but they do everything to cover it up. It's the same with ballet and it's always praised as a wonderful thing to be strong yet appear delicate. They would be so much more dynamic if they would display their strength. That's why I appreciate Ashley Wagner, though she's too flashy and all-American for me to really enjoy her skating, because she's not afraid to be bold. On the other hand, I do really like Satoko who genuinely does fit that sweet image because of how natural she is.

For pairs and ice dance, I love those who can move beyond he tired old romantic nonsense and those with a great sense of humour. Find me a better pair than Torvill and Dean!

Yeah, the sexualization and hyper femininity (everyone wears skirts never pants, don't be too muscular etc.) is bothering me as well about ladies figure skating, but I still enjoy watching it. Pairs/Dance I can't get into (it's just too heteronormative for me :slinkaway:)  allthough some of the pairs moves are real scary impressive

I'm so happy to find other people who feel the same! I always appreciate when women wear pants - it looks so much better, the dresses seem either hypersexual or infantile a lot of the time. It's probably no coincidence that my favourite Yuna routine is in pants.

Goddamn that heteronormative nonsense. I can't wait for the day when they allow same-sex pairs. I don't necessarily mean gay romance but something beyond romance altogether. People complain about the men in pairs being gay and unable to fake chemistry anyway (bullhonkey) and that attitude just goes to show that those disciplines are stuck in relationship mode. I really like the exhibitions JButt/Pchan and Daisuke/Stephane did together in ice shows and I think they could form the basis of a wonderful new category of skating.

How about Gabby Daleman? Powerful skater, with powerful jumps and she doesn't fit into the girly girl theme too much.

I hadn't really seen much or paid much attention and my impression ofher was "sassy sexy teenager" - probably her ex - which didn't interest me much - but I just watched her worlds FS and LOVED IT! She seems a bit unrefined but I don't care! :dancingpooh:

Let me venture even further off topic, and excuse me for saying so, but where did the powerful thighs on female skaters all disappear to? Is it an asthetic choice or are a lot of women unable to build that kind of muscle? Midori Ito - another favourite and criticised for not being feminine and graceful enough - had that power and those thighs.

sorry to take you :offtopic:again (whoops) but yes! exactly! it's both making grown women look infantile and sexualizing teenagers a lot ugh and don't get me started on the weird romance / relationship stuff.. :knc_brian3:

Yes, there're some ladies that are good with sweetness and delicacy, but you very rearly see smth. bluesy/rocky/pop/dynamic from them, that's why I liked Rika's Riverdance and Akiko's Kill Bill SP a lot and waiting for Whakaba's Skyfall (guilty, I like the song). In men there's more variety especially if you watch not only top-10 but let's say all groups during WC FS.

And I'm not even saying that no lady can top Yuzu's delicacy for me or be as good as Jason in last year's lyrics.

(I googled ACI 2017 and it came up with American Cleaning Institute...)

How does one go about watching comps live? Here we only get Worlds and it's split up and a lot cut out and shown over a month for about an hour on weekends. Is there a streaming service or does Japanese TV show them all live or something? I'm all worked up from all that bolero-ing.

The parallel 4T will surely be exciting to watch!

I thought I was ready for this season then I hear operatic bolero and my first instinct is to get nervous (I get stressed when I hear it, ok?!).

God, I love those trailers! Like to super cool new blockbuster! Gimme!

Why we need to wait another month? :13877886:
