Interesting, I didn't know that. Sochi olympics is actually where I started being interested in watching figure skating (Yuzuru's short had a lot to do with that), but at that time I surely didn't pay attention to how much time skaters have between short and free.

 

BTW I think his fall on the opening 4S in the free should not overshadow the perfect 4T that came after. Surely one of the best quads of the event, if not the best.

I love watching all his preformances whether they are clean or not. I spend way too much time in the video archive looking at his different skates.

I've just discovered this very important fact   : we only see the performance and don't actually know the schedule... Also, parts 3 and 4 are available here in the video section.

I seem to recall there was more  time between them. I mean, most skating competitions have events on consecutive days, but for big events like the Olympics they often alternate disciplines (eg, dance RD&  women's SP one day, pairs & mens SP the next, then back to women & dance, etc) so that there's a full 24 hours between events for individual skaters, but a lot depends on the broadcast schedule, too, especially if it's going to be shown live.

 

I think the issue with Sochi was that the turnaround time between the SP and the free skate was less than 24hrs. But it was also the first Olympics of the so-called quad revolution, where men were attempting multiple quads per program, and the scoring at that time didn't penalize jump errors the same. So men were jumping in a quite YOLO way and, predictably, missing a lot of the attempts. Lots of popped jumps, lots of splatting onto the ice. 

 

 

Also, if you're ever curious about an event's schedule, it's usually posted on the ISU web page for the competition, or on the host skating federation's web page

Yes but the SP started at 10 am so it finished early afternoon.  

Yuzu is a master of handling even complex costumes and making them an integral part of his performance.
