I have mixed feelings about this interview.

It's a little bit painful to read, but it's also somewhat hopeful.

These interviews are scattered through his career since he was a teenager and one on one he seems to almost drop into a stream of consciousness type of ramble when talking to Matsuoka.  I know that translation between Japanese and English is extremely difficult and I’m very grateful to the people who do this for us.

I think we should keep in mind that this interview was done on February 14, just a few days after men's FS. At that time, the wounds were still fresh and Yuzu had been sitting in his room for a few days, nursing his injury, and probably with many thoughts running through his head. So, it's not surprising that he was still feeling down and disappointed.

I don't know if this interview happened before or after he went to his practice session that day, but his time on the ice definitely seemed to put him in a better mood the following days. I guess that's therapy Yuzu style: get on the ice and skate.

If there's one thing I know for sure, it's Yuzu's love for skating. I believe after he has recovered, he will bounce back and show us more of his wonderful skating and performances, one way or another. I just hope he heals quickly and does whatever it is that gives him the most joy. :tumblr_m9gcraReGL1qzckow:

3 people that i believe genuinely love yuzu : Shuzo, Nobu and Toshi 😊

Yes, I think that Toshl would never let him down, he understands him too well and to me it seems that they have much in common - also regarding their personality.

I've heard/read more than once that Yuzu won in PC because of other people's mistakes, but couldn't that also mean that Nathan won in Beijing because of Yuzu's "mistakes"? :hihi:

I believe this is also true. Yuzu with 2 clean programs and fair scoring, even with lower tech value, would have won gold. This has been discussed here often but I personally think it's true.

Hi everyone! I had to spend the last week mostly in bed due to a bad flu (no covid but it was still exhausting). I took the time to rewatch all of Yuzu's past programs and honestly, it's still the greatest joy and happiness for me. Always. No matter how bad I feel, his skating just lights up my mood and gives me fresh energy everytime.

I decided to recap his past performances and create my personal Top 4 lists in the five different program components. It's not necessarily the four best programs he has ever skated, but it's the four programs that come to my mind first when I think about that specific component. I share the first three recap threads here too that I've posted so far:

I try to compile the threads for skating skills and composition tomorrow.

I hope you like the recaps so far  :tumblr_inline_ncmifaymmi1rpglid:

PS: I'm sorry that the tweet about the Haru yo koi spin got deleted, but you probably know to which spin I refer :14066882:

I finally completed my series of top 4 Yuzu programs across the five program components. I share the last two threads about skating skills and composition here too:

There will be a final summary thread with some comments later, but I got tired, so I will stop the work for today.

I hope you like it anyways :10636614:

Reminder that #YuzuSkatingParty is happening in 1 hour! 😁

This Skating Party was the best that could happen now that we have started missing Yuzu again. Thank you so much, dear organizers! :thanks: :clapping-smiley:It was extremely informative! Of course we all had already seen the child Yuzu announcing that he will win Olympic gold some day but his development and external circumstances at that time as well as how he was perceived by others - this was new to me. And once again it occurred to me that the number 4 seems to be deeply connected to him. Please correct me if I'm wrong: Born in 1994, he started skating at the age of 4, he was inspired by his sister who is 4 years older. His first senior medal was at 4CC, he placed 4th at his first GPF. Ever since season 2011/12 his lowest rank was 4th place (in very few competitions). OK, it would be too cheesy to mention that a free skate has 4 minutes, that the highest level of spins etc. is 4 and the time between Olympic Games is 4 years. My secret hope is that when, in a distant future, he will look back on his competitive career he will have participated in 4 Olympic Games and won 4 Olympic medals (if he will be allowed to participate in the team event next time). :animated-smileys-hello-22: (Not sure if I had already written this. If so: My apologies for repeating.)

This sort of comment is so annoying - it’s all sour grapes starting with PC fans in Sochi and multiplied x10 by pro NC US media at PC.  They were (and some still are) very sour because in the case of the former, chanflation didn’t work at the Olympics and it was hard to be too nasty about a charming polite teenager with a sad story behind him.  I also ( being a cynic) think they were geared up to trash Pluschenko and Yuzuru came in when they weren’t expecting him.  In the case of the latter, he bombed that SP so badly that they were all shell shocked - if PC had skated that badly at Sochi it would have been game over but NCs  passport gave him a lift over Julian Yee ( and there are plenty of us who are still sour about that one USFSA, fyi) which enabled him to rise above it all (cue redemption music and cartoon clouds) yada yada.

Yuzuru has lost plenty because of judging, but smaller fed skaters have lost even more.  There is no power behind them to force those extra few points to get them into the FS as there is with the Russian and American skaters.  It’s why I’m so pleased Donovan managed it this time because if ISU get their way there will be fewer and fewer Yees and Carillos in international competitions, more and more lower level big feds.

It indeed hurts so much....

Yes, Yuzu always selects his words very wisely. I listened carefully to what he said during the press conference on 14 February. I think this is the closest he ever gets to making clear that he is constantly underscored: "However well I express myself, however well I perform, that's not going to get me good marks." At least these were the words of the interpreter on the Olympic Channel. :scratch2:

He’s not wrong.  There have been occasions when Shoma has had his flaws called but normally only Yuzuru and Boyang in the upper echelons of the mens field and Kobe girls, Wakaba and Korean women in the upper echelons of that discipline get scrutinised the way the small fed skaters do. Passports rule - and the way they’re hedging round the invasion of Ukraine, it won’t be changing any time soon.

@cereus Allow me to crosspost this - it's a must-see by everyone! Ah, he is happy here, and so are we watching him.

Sigh ... hearing this music it feels like yesterday that Yuzu turned my family's life upside down. I guess it's time for watching "Onmyoji" again. After Pyeong Chang Olympics my teenage daughter had insisted to watch the movie and it turned out to be a good idea for understanding the character Yuzu portrayed. However, it's amazing, how energetic and expressive Yuzu skated this step sequence at the Beijing practice rink.

This series of Beijing practices are such a gift to us all - all the enjoyment without the aneurism inducing worry of competition :smiley-love017:

I thought about it today as I had another epiphany moment in my life that connected me to thoughts and strengths I have gained from being a fan of Yuzuru. But I am too embarrassed to bare my soul here among other busy conversations. And I am not a facilitator, if one of you older members agree and might start it? Or if there is such a forum discussion already here and I haven't seen it? Thanks!

as stated by other satellites there are more relevant threads, but I honestly love when people randomly wax poetic and expose their love and adoration for Yuzu here as well so I’d say feel free :tumblr_inline_mto5i4jHv61qid2nw:

also :welcome:
