yes! i always found that in a slower program, any mistake made on an element lasts longer in your mind, whereas with a fast, "busy" music, much more happens in the program (musically) that the mistake doesn't leave as much impression in your mind. speaking from a musical background as well, i always found that if i hit a wrong note in a slower piece, it's not as easily "swept away" by the succeeding notes as it is in, say, a rondo or something

The other thing with anything using the body is that when you get close to your limit in terms of how fast your muscles can move, it's easier to maintain that rhythm as you just have to focus on your maximum effort rather than controlling your pace. Then it becomes more a matter of stamina and fatigue rather than rhythm control. Mentally, too, you can leave your mind a bit more and enter into a zone outside and above the careful concentration and emotional sensitivity required for more nuanced pieces and performances.

 

At least that's what this rambler has always found.

books with Yuzu on front covers on sale in JPN showed that there

were more than 100 each year after 2014. Even last year, it was over

60 despite the fact of his absence from all ice shows due to injuries

effected from the 2015-2016 season as well as the absence from

2017 National Championships due to the flu !

CM:Always Ranking No.1 on its 1st appearance(Ref:Net Rankings)

TV Audience Rating:Distinguishable ratings comparing with other

skaters.(Ref:TV Research on Audience Rankings)

Star Power:Despite the fact of Figure Skating being a minor 

sport in Japan, Yuzu was highly appraised to be in TOP3 even over

all those in the entertainment world(Ref:Evaluation Report of Japan

Ice Shows: No one denies the fact that only Yuzu can draw a

full house ! While shows for other skaters always have tickets left

Don't you think it's kind of a waste of time, manpower ....?

Things can be done more to help restore his homeland and 

needless to say to help make more stars from Sendai by for ex.,

building a new ice rink for the birthplace of Japan FS which is

also the home rink of JPN's only 2 FS Olympic Champions and 

can be made use of by other winter sports too.

Particularly, when I come to think about JSF who announced

their deficit financial status early this year 

 

Thanks to Yuzu fans all around the world who are so talented in

arts and everything that really help ignoring this reality 

 

Only a simple thought for today, anyway.

 What can I say? Yuzu got pretty terrifying influence towards us fans hahaha! esp on ice shows, minutes after he is announced as one of the cast the site went down due to too much traffic (example: FaOI 2017)

It's a collection of all Yuzuru Hanyu competition commentaries, with a focus on highlighting the many excellent non-English commentaries (Max & Angelo? Russian Eurosport? Oh yes :)) available, all kindly translated by members of the community. This is a project started mid of 16-17 season and is constantly a work-in-progress. I'll be keeping track, but this is an open-edit document :) Meaning people should feel free to contribute new video sources, new translations, and updates. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding translations/commentaries/how to work the spreadsheet!

 

When the new season starts, we'll have threads dedicated to each competition and commentaries can be posted there. For now, this thread is a good place to collect any translations of commentaries from previous competitions.

Thinking of the 10s in PCS and given the new guideline for the 2017/2018 season set by ISU that judges shouldn't give 10s to performances with serious errors (which, lol, they don't actually define), I was thinking about the number of 10s given and how they would impact on the scoring. Usually, they don't because in these cases where 10s were given for performances with errors, most times it was only a single 10 in a specific PCS category and, as we know, the highest and lowest score are thrown out of the average. For example, Yuzu got three 10s in his GPF SP but they were each in a different category, so they had no impact on his final score since the highest score is thrown out. 

 

In the case of NHK 2016, he did get two 10s in his IN score, only one of which would have been thrown out. With the new rules, these two judges could, maybe, have given 9.75 instead of 10, and in the end, all else being equal, the difference in his IN score would have been 0.03 points (from 9.46 to 9.43).

 

Of course, there's always that idea of strategic scoring and some judges might knowingly give scores they know will get thrown out of the average. 

 

I am curious about doing a similar table for the 2015/2016 season for comparison purposes. I know the floodgates on 10s began in NHK and spread to Worlds when Javi had his amazing FS, but it does seem to me that less 10s are being given for clean performances (Javi had 11 on his SP, Yuzu 12 on his FS) than the previous season and I wonder if it is because of the sudden influx of higher BV layouts and the perception on judges mind on that. Alternatively, it may just be because the judges are trying to equalize the top 6 in preparation for the Olympics and then open the floodgates on 10s in February.

 

Edited to add 2015-2016 table. The difference is quite huge...
