World Champions solidarity

Too much like 05/06 season. Well so long as he is happy at the end, I can smile at the end. Skating is not the same without him-and that says more than all the medals on his wall.

I was thinking the same. Going straight from no comps to the most important competition of his life seems a little extreme.

Team event is important to get the feel of the arena, but his mindset is the most important thing for individual events, even above his physical condition. He managed  perfect perfomances with lisfranc injury.

After all the most certain thing about Yuzu is that he is unpredictable. He set WR on his first competition this season and then bombed the FS with easier layout. Whatever the result is I just hope he comes out of the Olympics with his love for skating unweathered. It is just another competition. Sometimes I ask myself what all this hype about Olympic champions is about. The rules are the same for GP Final or Worlds, so why these titles seem to be of lesser value?

But of course. If Yuzu gets a disappointing result, it's just one person feeling disappointed (one person who knows how to turn that feeling around).

If tens of thousands of fans from all different cultural backgrounds feel disappointed together, it's a huge black cloud of disappointment that covers all Earth. Of course the impact is bigger and it should worry more.

The only solution? We can only control our own feelings, not someone else's, so we can try ourselves to contain and transform the feelings we have, because yes, these feelings turn into pressure and yes, Yuzuru feels it.

Due to recent events I really hope we can get the message to Yuzu at some point, in some way, loud and clear, that we support him as fans whether he wins or not. We have faith in his ability, want the best for him, but are proud of him, love him and support him even when he has a hard time. I don't want him to be weighed down by the expectations of fans, or see himself as coming short from the standards fans set for him.

There is a lot of recycling of 'news' and with no competitions confirmed before the Olympics it's inevitable that everyone twitches every time one of these stories pops up, but they aren't saying anything new from any reputable source.

The team event was was something that I wasn't terribly keen on before Sochi but if he's asked to represent his country I'm pretty sure he'll do it and last time it actually worked well for him- good solid performance in the team competition giving Japan the first place in the SP, followed by WR in the individual SP, so I'm not terribly worried about it and think it could well be beneficial.

He has been clear that he wants two perfect performances this time and he'll be frustrated if he doesn't get them even if he wins.  I get irritated with the commentators etc who make such a big deal about two clean performances at OG, as though to go clean with maximum difficulty was somehow the norm, when in fact the opposite is true - Olympic history is littered with imperfect gold medal winning performances which are either clean but mediocre content, or mistake ridden with difficult content ( and it's the same with GP and WC).  To get one 'big picture' performance is marvellous and he did that last time.  To get two would be magical but to expect it at OG is unrealistic.  I've no doubt he's aiming for it and I believe it's possible that he might do it, but if he does it will be remarkable, astonishing, one for the history books, not the 'normal ' to be expected result.  I don't actually need it - NHK/GPF 2015 was astonishing enough for me, though I will really enjoy it if he pulls it off.

looks like yuzu really needs to go Euros now

TAT will coadopt him with Hanyu-mama, Javi will make him his brother/in-law/whatever, and we are all set  Actually, there was a lot of Poohs in Europe, weren't there? MAybe we should do a group adoption, then

Why not Team event? That's weird. I thought it's compulsory for him to take part in Team, or am I mistaken?

No it's not, Japan has three singles skaters approved for Olys, so each of them can: do both TE programs; do one TE program; do none TE programs. It would be different if there was only one skater in the discipline, there wouldn't be this many options^^

Ugh, the pressure of keeping the title for four years vs every year recalibration of the Champion. It's like "four years passed, will he be up to the task or won't he?"

Also the fact that Olys are the oldest sport competition invented by humanity (with short breaks for wars etc.) probably doesn't help lessen the pressure... you know, compared to it, the not-yet-30-years-old GPF seem like a baby

Also, as with any news of his injuries for the last month, we should just sit and relax a bit untill the media select one story for us to believe, or until TCC/JSF decide to release a proper statement on the 4CC/Worlds/Olys teams...

I think the Olympics is a big deal because it's the one everybody watches. Not just people who love a particular sport, or even people who love sports in general. Broadcast on TV just about everywhere, watched everywhere where there is winter at all. (Not so much where I am lol) Everybody hears the names of the Olympic gold medalists, even if they might not remember them for too long.

I complain about people's unrealistic expectations of Yuzu, but come to think of it, nobody has higher expectations than he does. It must be exhausting to be him and live up to his own standards!

ETA: So we will only see final final costumes for the Olympics? Damn.

that would truly be the most Extra™ thing to have ever happened and yet I'm not even....going to be surprised if it ends up happening because it's somehow #justhanyuthings (though for the sake of everyone's nerves including his own, I kind of hope he'll at least get a chance to calibrate to the arena through the team event first...):13877886:

I WOULD BE SO STRESSED. I cannot even. I'm already stressed thinking about it.

But it's up to him ultimately. :dpooh:

As much as I would still love Yuzu absolutely the same if he bombed and finished last at Olys (lol), I think he himself has commented about the "whether he wins or not" mentality and was annoyed by it because for him there is only one acceptable outcome

So I will only say that I believe in him and his 2 clean skates for that shiny gold, no matter how statistically improbable - I trust him to pull it off :hachimaki:

If anyone can crash through the door at Pyeongchang and complete two clean programs after 4 months out of competitions fueled by pure will, frustration and maybe the tiniest amount of spite (interrupted gpf streak and another nationals missed...) its Yuzuru. I still have faith in his ability to do that even if I'm a little less certain than before. Above all I want him to finish happy. I want to see a smile on his face. At Pyeongchang. At worlds. And next season.

That's why I'm grateful to have this forum and some other fan communities in the first place. So we can vent about our feelings, not to lock them inside and have like... group therapy in hard times :grouphug:

4CC I can see but why not Team event?

Maybe then he can fly to PC later and have more time in TCC? But I'll wait till team announcement at least.
