From the article:

"With Javi it's a different story, but when Yuzu sees other guys doing quad lutzes, jumps, quad loops, he needs to be in there with them. That's a good quality. He's very competitive."

Thank god no one has landed that 4A yet... :13877886:

Something else I take from these words is that Brian doesn't seem particularly keen on the 4Lz yet. I wonder if the success rate of clean runthroughs lowered quite a bit once Yuzu added the 4Lz...

I guess he believes that it's perfectly possible to win without it. And he is probably right.

Technically, with an SP like he had at ACI and a FS like Helsinki, yeah. But Yuzu is competitive and he also doesn't want to give other skaters too much of a headstart on BV.

Thing is, can he be better with the 4Lz than without?

Brian didn't like idea of seimei at first (when he heard the music). He also wasn't happy about adding 4Lo to SP last season and about 4 quads in FS :) He probably wants to decrease his stress level... :P  Takeshi Honda also said that Yuzu doesn't need 4lz and I doubt that he even saw how it looks.

Thanks for the Kyodo News article recommendation @xeyra. My thoughts: I love how much Yuzu and Brian are able to communicate more. I also agree that Brian might not be too keen on the 4Lz because as Yuzu has shown, you can get a high score (and win) with a clean skate even with just the 4T and 4S. However, he also knows how intense Yuzu is and, as he has indicated time and again, he relates to Yuzu or rather his younger self relates to Yuzu. So he must also understand what drives Yuzu as a competitor but at the same time, Brian is his coach and the goal is to win so he might be hesitant to push forward a new element especially this Olympic season and the way judging panel goes. It must be a conflicting feeling for Brian.

I guess Yuzuru has already replied in his head, because if he's decided he's going to add that 4Lz, he's gonna do it and with a clean FS too. Maybe he's not going to obtain this at the start of the season, and he's going to make us worry, but if everything goes according to plan, at GPF he will deliver because he wants that medal hard. And all the kuyashii towards Seimei will motivate him to push. For example, even if he messes up at Cup of Russia, I still see that as useful because he will just get more angry and more motivated.

Problem is... we still haven't even seen that clean 4Lz!!! And. That's. A problem! :knc_brian3:

Tbh the idea of 4Lz scares me, because we haven't seen any properly landed 4Lz yet.

And we haven't seen Chopin with 4Lo in competiton yet. And after SP at ACI I thought that probably he could keep this layout and still get great enough scores without taking too much risk. After all the SP caused so much trouble last season.

Sooo I just saw something interesting on twitter and wanted to ask those of you who actually went to ACI if it's true. Did people from IOC or ISU really come watch the competition? People in suits were allegedly spotted watching Yuzu's performance from the VIP section, but the only non fan atendees I heard about on here were the unimpressed hockey players and there doesn't seem to be any pictures of them (Also why is there a VIP section at ACI?). ACI is just a challenger series, if it's true, is that normal?
