  1. Patrick's struggles came out of left field for me. I thought he ended last season on a pretty good note.

I've always wanted a spiral to appear in a competitive program. Hopefully he improves it and doesn't take it out.
  3. Maybe you should only do it for the ladies who make the GPF. Or only the Japanese ladies, or Russian ones. Just narrow it down in some way so it's less work.
  4. Strategically I also believed Javi should jump the 4Lo. However, if he added it without true conviction and desire, it would only backfire. The tale is not yet told—what Shoma and Nathan are doing is so risky we don't know if they will succeed. What happened at the Japan Open can happen again. Javi must be satisfied with those odds. In retrospect, his best chance was Sochi. But given how everyone skated, I was happy to see the bronze go to Denis Ten.
  5. At least she's becoming more consistent, and her programs are good, probably my favorites so far. She's doing her best. I'm really curious to see Satton. Her situation may be even more difficult.
  6. There's starting to be some interesting overlap where fans of Yuzu become fans who appreciate Boyang as well. Which wouldn't be immediately obvious. I think it's because if you look closely he's the younger skater following the Yuzu path. His artistry and PCS is very much a work in progress, but he's not given credit for his improvement. His first year senior he was a pure jumping bean with not so good skating skills and empty programs, but he's working on everything, not just quads.
  7. Isn't Yuzu's 3Lz tilted too? Maybe just because he puts it at the end of his programs when he's tired. Forget quads, I remember the days that triple wasn't reliable! He's come far.
  8. I think letters are very nice. He can save them for when he has the time and energy to look at them. It also seems like he finds the banners encouraging. And I have donated to earthquake relief funds in honor of him.
  9. They are bandwagon jumpers and they don't want to be wrong later, so it's actually an indication that Yuzu is having a strong start to his season. I think Nathan could still fizzle out later, but we don't have as much past history on him to know his patterns. I really think Raf might break him if they bring back the 4Lo.
  10. Well that's surprising to hear. I agree with them about Raf and Mariah though; I was thinking the same. She should've stayed with Kori Ade.
  11. If you have time, would you mind summarizing what they said?
  12. Just on the topic of Nathan taking out the 4Lo, I think it's a wise decision. He would reinjure himself; it would be like Yuzu doing 4F. That he isn't artistically driven speaks for itself. I have been dreading the politicking this year, but Yuzu has plenty of American fans, just like he does from every country.
  13. Interesting. From a PR standpoint, maybe he should stop talking about inconsistency, even though we enjoy his honest insights.
  14. For a day or so after ACI SP they were complimentary... but it wore off. Must've been painful for them!
  15. Well, Dick Button's advice about overtraining is good anyway. I love him because I grew up with his commentary, so I'll just ignore his Yuzu/Javi comparison, which doesn't make a ton of sense. He must be skeptical about the toll taken on the program by including the hardest elements. He had no words at all for Chen/Jin! If he were paying more attention, he'd see that skaters are mixing up the order of the elements more than ever. With Medvedeva and Zagitova it can get lopsided, but Chopin is really a triumph of marrying backloading to artistic excellence. Quite unprecedented.
  16. That's really positive, I think. Putting herself through the GP pressure cooker wouldn't have helped her move forward in her personal life.
  17. Even if someone beats H&L's score, they can't overcome its impact. Because it was pretty much perfect. I just don't expect that level of poetry in motion from anyone else, even if they land insane quads. The spins, steps and GOE aren't there for them.
  18. It reassures me that Yuzu is never caught by surprise. He always knows what everyone is capable of. It's probably why he wants to do 4Lz or 4Lo instead of 4S. So... Chopin's WR will be fine.
  19. I'm loving that they can choose from lumberjack outfits and novelty pajama onesies. I want!
  20. Well, sometimes you can't love a skater even if you know they're the best. I was that way with Plushenko. He just wasn't my style. But the naysayers are missing out on a golden age! Specifically in a USA context, I think it's good for Yuzu to be admired for his looks. Because there is the stereotype that Asian men are not found attractive by other races here. And I'm happy to see that changing.
  21. You know what is super sweet about this? It means Yuzu agreed to try things Brian's way once again (he was right about resting between the short and free in Helsinki), which he resisted when he was younger. But now it turns out Yuzu can only go his own way... I'm not surprised watering down doesn't make him more consistent. We shouldn't be afraid of the 4Lz.
  22. I think what the GPF is doing *is* nefarious. They don't want viewers to think *this* skater is more loved than the others. But he is. Surely they hope Shoma will win, and it would be confusing if the audience likes Yuzu more. I will miss the Pooh rain. It's tradition! I only hope plenty of his fans got tickets, because we satellites hardly succeeded.
  23. I'm definitely going to Vancouver GPF! I know there is a veil of mystery over Yuzu's future plans, but I'd guess he'll be there.
  24. That is funny that I forgot her... I guess I'm addicted to the ups and downs we get from Yuzu. Ironically her consistency makes her less memorable for me. But really the most fun thing she did was her exhibition there!
  25. It was fun to see skaters peak at WTT who hadn't gotten to those levels earlier... Wakaba, Mai, Kolyada, Weaver/Poje, James/Cipres. But for those who had peaked already, it was inevitably going to show a downward slide. I kind of feel sad that it was the final nail in the coffin for LGC. But it was cool to see even more of Yuzu's YOLO potential.
