I don't say this with any pleasure, but I believe Patrick Chan is right. Shoma and Nathan are going to break themselves. They are rushing to get these big elements in, speeding ahead to the next before solidifying what they already have, or balancing their programs and their bodies. It's an all out race to the Olympics. On the other hand, Boyang has a strong foundation to continue to 2022.

What, no! I thought so too.

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
Ok, I hate everything everyone is choosing. I'm a grouch. Oh well, this is how the best stand out. By not boring me to tears.

Thank you Shizuka! Someone needs to keep it real. Maybe these two can build a new power center in Japanese figure skating.

Yes, Helsinki was when I saw it live. I've heard other people knowledgeable about tango say that, but I still like them on occasion. I enjoyed Gilles/Poirier's this year. In terms of Shoma, he's good at projecting intensity, but I don't know if it's gotten more specific than that yet. That tango seemed to be more about (musical) tension than projecting sensuality (which is totally fine, I'm not quite ready for that from him).

I hate surprises but I'm excited for this one. We need way more agonizing suspense though. With Shoma announcing so early we'll get bored of his programs before we even see them. With Yuzu it will be a dramatic unveiling, I hope.

Team Japan
I can feel the push for Marin from across the ocean, which put me off at first. But I like her. I guess she's considered ideally cute in Japan? I don't totally get it, because by my standards the other girls are cute too.

I couldn't really focus on Shoma's Worlds FS after what Yuzu had done. I was fried. I loved how he performed the short, but all the crossovers stuck out to me in the long. His landings are kind of exciting at first, like, good save! But then over time you're like, that's just not right, and it becomes irritating.

Team USA
Ah, reliable quadsters. Yuzu is such an exception to my pattern. Normally I see a young guy nailing the quads and I'm like, yawn. Give me the artistic hot messes and the late bloomers; that's my history. I think my next generation favorites are going to be Vassilievs, Cha and Torgashev. They've got some jazz. I've grown to respect Boyang a lot. Good personality, and he's really working on his weaknesses.

Team Japan
That's my thinking, but he seems to be doing pretty well on tumblr. He's gaining fans.

Team Japan
How's the state of Korean pairs/dancers? I'm admittedly not very well versed in this field :silent: (and sorry for being "off-topic") Getting better. Multiple decent teams in each. It's why I mentioned it. Watching 4CC I thought, hmmm, they're moving ahead. But they probably invested years ago for their Olympics, and their efforts are bearing fruit.

Team Canada
What does he have to lose though? I don't count him out, but he probably won't medal. Unless his plan is to be super consistent with the 4S next year so his PCS/GOE goes up. But everybody always wants to go clean. It's not that easy to do.

Team Japan
Korea will also pass them. They need an intervention. Build a rink and beg Yuko Kavaguti to start a pairs program in Japan.

Loco was super effective, but the wailing woman grated on me by the end of the season. I shouldn't criticize, because at least it was original! That deserves applause.

I'm a pretty big fan of his. He's this close

Team Canada
I enjoyed Charlie White's interview with Patrick at Worlds. He said if he could stay in the top 5, on any given day he could win/podium. That seems reasonable. Will Pyeongchang be like Sochi (base value wins) or like Vancouver (conservative, clean wins)? Probably neither. It will have its own narrative we can't predict. Veterans upstaging the young guys would be an interesting story. (Obviously two-time gold medalist is the best story :)

Team USA
To my mind, Jason has solidified his grip on a spot with his performances at WC and WTT. When he is healthy, he is beautiful and reliable. He is fun and he can go viral. His Team USA photoshoot demonstrates that charisma. From a marketing perspective, I wouldn't leave him off. I feel fine saying that, because I'm confident he will perform well, without being gifted. If you make Yuzuru Hanyu stop and think, you're doing something right. Nathan, barring catastrophe, is a shoe-in. So to my mind the last spot is a battle royale between Adam, Max, Vincent, Josh Farris, a surprise challenger (Grant? Torgashev?)... Adam is my sentimental favorite. He had a lot of momentum before he got injured :( Ladies... I don't have an emotional investment. I always want to watch Ashley no matter what she does. As difficult as this sport is, I'm a little frustrated with all the flakiness right now. I'll applaud anyone who puts it together. I still like Mirai and Mariah, and I'd like to see Tessa Hong develop well. As far as I'm concerned, our ladies are out of the medal hunt, unless there is a drastic change.

Team Russia
Yes, I found her words very promising. Maybe she doesn't like so much attention revolving around Averbukh's choices. It is a distraction. I am still waiting for Evgenia to develop her personal artistry further. Even though I'm not completely sold on what she's doing yet, I have been defending her on GS. Her Sailor Moon exhibition is getting criticized, and I find that pretty ridiculous. Nothing wrong with a crowdpleasing gala piece. The other spots...??? maybe something like [A] Zagitova Radionova, Sotskova [C] Pogorilaya, Tuktamysheva [D] Lipnitskaia, Sotnikova

Same here. I am not "against" any lady though. I am simply rooting for those two the most.

His necklaces and costume match well. I never noticed that before.
