Where can I find...?/ Is there a thread for...?
Hope_and_Legacy replied to robin's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
Ok, thank your for the info!!! I'm just curious if it would be possible to organize that into one thread, like how LadyLou put together the Glossary? I found that really helpful, so I thought we could do that, but maybe it's not necessary and takes too much time. Just wondering! -
Where can I find...?/ Is there a thread for...?
Hope_and_Legacy replied to robin's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
Hello! Sorry for suddenly reviving this thread, but I've looked around for a while with no results. I was wondering if we have a thread collecting resources like videos or articles that contain information about figure skating/Yuzuru? I know there are some newer fans who have less knowledge about FS than they would like, (i.e., they can't tell apart the jumps/spins, don't understand scoring, and things like that) so I thought that it would be helpful if we created a thread that could list useful information with links and sources? Unless there's already a thread like this. Thanks in advance! -
Poll - When/How did you become a fan of Yuzu?
Hope_and_Legacy replied to PomeloPooh's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Hello! YouTube recommendations are actually helpful sometimes, it seems!!! I was also recommended a figure skating video, not of Yuzuru in particular, but it brought me to him. I hope you enjoy it here. I'm not sure if you've seen the glossary created by LadyLou? It's really helpful in understanding the lingo of this Planet, so I encourage you to look at it!- 249 replies

I know how you feel....I saw videos all over Youtube of the collision, and I understood that the medics did what they could and that they needed that one minute to get everyone else off the ice, but still....it was really painful to watch. I just wished at that moment that I could be there to comfort him and whisper things like, "Just breathe. It's okay, Yuzu, we're by your side," even though it wasn't okay. But for some the free skate is probably equally as painful, seeing how weakened and pained his body was and how he fell so many times. I remember watching it and just wishing it would end rather than wishing that he would win. But what happened, happened: it's over now, and there's nothing we can do to change what took place that day. I can only hope and pray that this sort of thing won't happen again, to Yuzuru and to other skaters and people. On a happy note, because I hate to end a post this way, Yuzuru still won GPF that year, meaning that he was already on his way to achieving his SUPER SLAM!!! Except for 4CC, unfortunately........ But he's broken the curse now (and ANOTHER world record)!!!! And also, according to Yuzu, "....like the evening skies during March 11, you can see the light only because there is darkness." I think Yuzuru is right. The accident and many other occasions certainly were dark ones for him and all of us, but even the blackest shadow passes, and it is because all other lights have been blotted out that we can see even the smallest spark. Never give up, everyone! I believe in you all! And that turned out longer than expected.....sorry for the long post! Thanks for putting up with me, heh heh heh.

Hello! I know this thread hasn't been touched in such a long time, but I thought I would add in my two cents. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw this, so I can't provide a link. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where/who the quote is from! And sorry, it's not quite word for word since it's based completely from my unstable memory and is translated from Chinese(?) I think. (I remember the commentator being Chinese, but IDRK ) I honestly just really love this quote, because to me, it very realistically describes Yuzuru. He's been through so much: asthma, the disaster of 2011, injuries before/during competition, surgeries, unfair judging, and just so much more. But every time, he keeps getting back up and pushing forwards, and he takes the world by storm. I'm so thankful that we have such insightful commentators as this one (and, of course, Max & Angelo Ci) and that they give us such beautiful quotes! Please let me know if you're aware of where this quote is from so that i can provide a source!

Thank you so much for this! I first got here a while ago but never had the courage to actually sign up as a member because everything seemed confusing, (had zero idea what "pudding of the opera meant" Ci) but then I found this page that helped me better understand everything! It really encouraged me to join, so thank you very much! Question: What IS the max number of emojis in one post??? Thanks!

Ah yes, so many of us including myself came to this Planet during quarantine. And it's okay to be nervous! When I first came here I wasn't a member; I must have just lurked around as a guest for more than a month!!! Heh heh heh. You became his fan after seeing CoC 2014??? How did you survive that? I heard about the incident not long after becoming Yuzuru's fan, but it took me a long time to pick up the courage to actually watch the performance because I knew he fell several times. You're really brave! And you're welcome; I'm glad I was able to help!

Hi there! Welcome, and you don't need to feel worried. I've not been a member for very long, and I was nervous and unsure when I first joined, but in very little time this place became very comfortable and homely to me! How long have you known Yuzu? P.S. Here is a page that will help you get more used to the Planet. I hope this helps!

@Henni147 , I'm truly wrenched by what has happened, but I pray that your friend and grandfather will recover. I'm glad that you've found something that has made you smile, and I send my best wishes and hopes to you! Thank you for sharing this observation with us, it's very interesting and informative, and I think it's made many others of us smile too! ....trying in vain to remember/come up with something funny or heartwarming to cheer your spirits, but Sorry!!!

Eh? Sorry if this is kind of OT, but could you clarify to me what was up with the length of his sleeves? I was too busy admiring his hands, so I failed to pay any attention to the sleeves....sorry!

Sorry if this is kind of off topic now, but I completely agree with you. I was reading the profiles, and other than being entirely horrified with how they ignored Boyang, I was highly unimpressed with what they wrote for Yuzuru-kun. The summary of the award says, "Honors the Single Skater or Pair or Ice Dance Couple who best managed to increase the level of popularity of Figure Skating with their fan base, media attention and sponsor appreciation." In my honest opinion, if this doesn't describe Hanyu Yuzuru, then I don't know who it does. But then I read his bio, which mechanically states his main achievements, not to mention at first omitting several of them.... Like you said, if I had no background info, I wouldn't vote for Yuzu, because his bio did not mention popularity or media attention at all. It's almost like they set it up so that it seems that he can win it, but then they write him off like some guy who's just extra lucky in competition!!!! It's like he doesn't meet the criteria at all, when in reality he does! Again, sorry if this is already off topic but this whole awards thing just seems really fake and insincere. I'm just going to stick with you guys on this and enjoy CiONTU!!!

Thank you so much!!! I was actually pretty nervous when I first joined the Planet, because I've never been in a fandom or anything like it, but with you and others liking and replying to my posts, I feel really encouraged! Thanks for the support, it means so much to me!!!- 249 replies

Thank you so much! Honestly, I had such a hard time coming up with a username, because I wanted to commemorate one of Yuzuru-kun's programs, but all of them are so amazing!!!! In the end I settled on H&L because a) it's one of my most beloved ones (but I still love all of them!) and b) the name that Yuzuru-kun gave it and the passion he poured into it! Thanks again for welcoming me here; I appreciate it!!!- 249 replies

Who have you tried to convert to a Hanyu fan?
Hope_and_Legacy replied to wingman's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
After I found out about Yuzuru-kun and figure skating, I immediately set towards converting my sister, but, uh....I was only partially successful. I showed her footage of 2017 World Championships in Helsinki and several gala exhibitions, including "Notte Stellata," but alas, i have failed! Well, sort of, anyways: she likes figure skating as a whole now, but she's more into the ladies category, though she still agrees to watch Yuzu-kun with me now and then, but I think she actually likes Javi better.....No offense to Javi!!! I like him too, just.... Ah well, I guess I'll just have to try harder! At the very least, my sister also looks forwards to him landing "Nessie" and things like that, and she agrees that I*U can be really blind at times. But I'll be in touch with a friend I haven't talked to in a long time soon, so maybe I'll have better luck with her! I'll just have to try my best! -
Poll - When/How did you become a fan of Yuzu?
Hope_and_Legacy replied to PomeloPooh's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Hi, um, I'm new here, so this is going to be awkward...But, anyway, I hope it's okay for me to share my story here! It's nothing special like all the other stories everyone else has. Before just a few months ago, I wasn't a fan of figure skating. I never liked any sports besides badminton, but even then I never watched it. And I don't have any social media, so I'm actually never up-to-date on anything. Anyways, my earliest memory of anything remotely close to it is when my family went on a sort of reunion thing, and we dined at a restaurant. I was somewhere between 10-15? years old at that time, so I don't clearly remember much. Whatever the case, normally I don't pay any mind to the TVs since it's just news or football/soccer (sorry, not sorry), but interestingly, this one was an exception. The TV was playing an ice dance competition, I think, because I can remember watching the Shibutani siblings skating. I really can't remember anything about the skate, but I was impressed by what they did. Unfortunately, while it left a good impression, it wasn't enough for me to actually become an invested fan. Sorry, Alex and Maia!!!!! Life went on, and pretty soon I completely forgot about my interest, and I also got busy with school and health issues. Big events like 2017 World Championships in Helsinki and the Olympics came and went without my knowledge, which I highly regret!!!! Silly little me thought all sports were utterly crazy and unpleasant to watch. I didn't even know figure skating was a sport..... Honestly, I wasn't a bright kid, heh heh heh... It was early this year when it all began, I guess. I had more time on my hands, with what was going on, so I started browsing Youtube for things to do. And, of all things, what do I find on my recommendations??? F I G U R E S K A T I N G And I though, "Nani? I don't watch ice skating. I've only ever watched art and craft videos, so what in the world?" (I know what y'all are thinking....I thought it was ice skating...) Anyhow, I was curious, but not enough to click on any of the videos. Again, regret of a lifetime! Then, I saw this one video titled, "Rare & Unusual Jumps in Figure Skating," and I was like, "Wait, you jump in figure skating? That sounds cool!" So I clicked on it.... ....and guess who was featured? There were actually several skaters, both famous and not, who made appearances, but the one that stuck with me the most...... ....was him: Hanyu Yuzuru himself. I still stay up at night wondering why. The video talked about jumps in figure skating that were so difficult or worth less points that skaters rarely attempted them, and of course the 4Lo was included, and as the one who ratified it, Yuzuru-kun was shown landing the jump. But why did he stand out to me? Frankly, IDK. Maybe it was because he's Japanese, and I really liked the way his name sounded. And some of the clips shown were not the most clear since they were from a while ago, so I couldn't really make out his face. But there was something different about the way he jumped. I think it might have been because he made it look effortless and gentle, and it really spoke to me. Furthermore, his 4T+3A was included, and the maker of the video wrote: 'Only Yuzu is crazy enough to attempt this in competition.' I was already drawn to the way he jumped, but hearing how brazen he was kind of was the final straw. I just had to search him up to see who he was. So I did, and I learned of all his achievements and records. The more I learned, the more amazed and interested I was, so I immediately went on Youtube to search up his performances. I remember his 2014 OG "Parisienne Walkways" being one of the first I saw. I was stunned by how skilled he was and how easy he made it all look. But really, for me, I think that the point of no return was when I watched his "Notte Stellata" from the Olympics. I was speechless, stunned beyond words could express. And I still am; I have no words to describe exactly how I felt. But other than the sheer beauty and otherworldliness that he radiated, another thing that spoke to me was what the program was: I learned from the comments section that he dedicated it to the victims of the 2011 disaster. I found out that he had fled from the rink in his skates, terrified and confused, and how he had persevered through it all to fulfill his dreams. And that, I think, was how I truly became his fan. Realizing how great his inner strength was and how much he had sacrificed to reach where he was shook me to the core. I thought, "This man is more than the greatest figure skater. He is something more, much more. He is someone I can always look to for inspiration and who will always remain a role model to me." And from there, the journey began. My sincerest thanks to Yuzutea-san, the maker of that video that I mentioned, for bringing me to where I am now, and to all of you reading this for this incredible "planet" that I can call home. Although, um, sorry for the long rant??? Finally, I just have to say, arigatou gozaimashita, Yuzuru-kun, for everything. I truly hope that he will succeed in his dreams!- 249 replies
