In fact Shoma has landed 4Lo more often than 4S so far. His first successful 4Lo was in the second half of the 16/17 season, when LOCO was his free program. In Helsinki 4Lo was his opening jump, too. If I remember correctly, Shoma changed his boots and positioned the blades off center to land the Loop properly. In the 18/19 season he gave up on the 4Lo for whatever reason. Maybe the unusual position of his blades caused him problems in the long term. Does anyone know? Folks, I just found out how the ISU headquarters look like

Thank you so much for sharing this link! I agree with pretty much everything being said in this video. When I edit a clip myself, the most important aspect for me is the movement itself. In my opinion it's a crime to change the camera angle or zoom in and out excessively during a spin or Ina Bauer etc. It completely kills the move. I wanted to punch every official cameraman in Torino this week. What they did to Notte Stellata is... well, no comment. My impression is: the better your technical equipment is, the poorer gets the actual camera work. In many cases. Very few filmmakers can make something great out of all the gadgets and features and special effects they have compared to the 20th century. In my opinion the good old hand drawn and painted pictures in classical Disney films beat any kind of new pixar movie. When I rewatch The Jungle Book or Snow White, I can feel the love and attention to detail in every single frame. I'm very happy that Japanese animation studios didn't give up on hand drawing until today. You're right that creating a figure skating program is comparable with the creation of a film. When you compose a skating program, you have to take care, how it appears to the audience. How can I translate the music into body movements? Which gestures and facial expressions should I use to transport my message? Which movements are meaningful, which ones superfluous? In which corner of the rink should I land my jumps to leave the biggest impact? How can I build up suspense and make the program visually appealing? Yuzu pays a lot of attention to such details and that sets him apart from the rest. The costume choice is one part of it, too. It makes a huge difference, if you wear an actual COSTUME that visualizes the theme of your music or just a casual black shirt. Yuzu's costumes are real eyecatchers and thoughtfully designed. Program and costume belong together.

I sput my tea over my desk, when I read this. Is it mechanically even possible to have a deep running edge and long exit curve with a stiff landing? I thought, deep knee bend is a key quality feature of figure skating jumps and proper stroking in general... Seriously. It's long overdue that the top skaters from past and present gather at the round table and discuss the entire judging system from A to Z and Olympic Channel streams that discussion live. I want to know what skaters like Yuna, Javi, Patrick, Plushy, Lambiel, Carolina, Tessa and Scott, Aljona Savchenko, Midori Ito, Michelle Kwan, Ilia Kulik and couple of others have to say about technique and quality. I'm really curious now. Whoever is responsible for this vandalism, is definitely NOT a fan of Yuzuru Hanyu. A true fan would never dare to demolish the skating venue that is holy to Yuzu. Especially not the Olympic wall. It's like putting the shrine of Seimei on fire. @Umebachi Thank you very much for the link! I will take a closer look at home

I promised you to upload a compilation of Yuzu's performances at CiONTU 2018 before the GPF, but totally forgot about it in all the excitement EDIT: Get that. +22 minutes pure skating without a single jump. I can watch it in loop. Well, here it is (720p):
-
I second this. If I only look at their body movements and pure skating, I prefer Roman and Camden, too. They are really amazing, when they're on. However, there are currently two male skaters who's movements cause me goosebumps and difficulty in breathing. These two are Yuzu and Guillaume Cizeron. They are totally different types of skaters from different disciplines, but they equally mess up my emotional household, when I watch them stroking

Sure, the risk of injury is always there and he will need the time to prepare at TCC. On the other hand: 1. Yuzu has to "prepare" his scores for Worlds. Ideally he should skate at least one program (perfectly) clean and push his PCS back to high 9s and 10s before facing Nathan. 2. If I remember correctly, Yuzu wants to adjust his jump elements in Otonal. The timing/rhythm of the 4S and 4T+3T really seemed to bother him recently. He doesn't have the time to adjust them until JNats, so he has to test the changes somewhere else before. 4CC is the best competition to do so. No home crowd pressure, no birthday, no prestigious venue with hero memories, no Nathan. It's the most stress-free environment he can get. 3. If Yuzu wins 4CC, he becomes the first male skater to win a career super grand slam of Olympics, Worlds, 4CC, GPF, Junior Worlds AND Junior GPF. That would put him into a much better position before Worlds than he is now. The media wants to see results and he can't produce results at home behind closed doors. Footnote: Do you really think, JSF would not nominate Yuzu for 4CC, if he wanted to go and win his first ever title there?
-
I'm totally with you. There's just a tiny little problem. Yuzu probably can't do it. It's not like: I need a quint, here we go. Not to mention embedding it into a choreo that is already packed with four or five quads. However, I agree that the situation won't change for him, if things go on like this. Scores will probably get even worse, if he doesn't come up with something really earthshattering soon. My thoughts: Advice #1: Yuzu, listen to the wise words of Kaz Brekker: If you can't beat the odds, change the game. Yuzu has three incredibly powerful weapons: 1. He sticks 100% to the rulebook. At the end of the day his correct technique and highest quality of execution are indisputable. 2. Yuzu is the no. 1 topseller and clickbait in the skating world, who fills the arenas and pockets of many officials, institutions and big companies. 3. Everyone wants him to compete in Beijing. Yes, I think even ISU wants him to be there (winning the title is a different cup of tea). Make use of these weapons. Advice #2: Follow the key rules of chess. If you want to win, it's not enough to bring your most powerful pieces into position. They will be slaughtered, before you even get the chance to attack with them. 1. key rule: Read your opponent's thoughts. Not only the next step, but the next five or six steps. 2. key rule: Never pull out your biggest trumpcard too early. The right timing is everything. 3. key rule: Lure your opponent into a trap. Attack, when he feels the most confident and becomes careless with his next move. Ahhhhh... I love playing mindgames... This is Henni's favorite territory...

There should be another statistics that splits 4F and 4Lz into pre-rotated and fully rotated ones. I'm sure the stats would change drastically and make the BV somewhat more reasonable for "true" Flips and Lutzes.

What will be Yuzuru Hanyu's EX program for NHK 2019?

It's fine. I totally forgot to open a separate poll for GPF. You can leave that post here.- 47 replies

Folks, I just realized something. Yuzu still has a 100% success rate on Quad Lutzifer in competition And what an incredible 4Lz it was today. He can be SO proud.

Lol. Kostornaia without a quad scored higher than all men except Yuzu, Nathan and Boyang.

It would be so iconic, if Yuzu skated to "It's my life" from Bon Jovi with the line: "My heart is like an open highway. Like Frankie said: I DID it my way." ... and jumped a 4S there That would be an awesome Javi-easter egg.
-
EDIT: I knew that chose the right avatar. Long live the secret connection between Yuzuru Hanyu and Ciel Phantomhive EDIT the second: @memae I would lmao, if Nathan's current Rocketman shirt received the award for costume of the year, but Nathan changed it mid season to another black Vera Wang training gear

This is indeed interesting, because for me non of the Origin costumes give 'human' vibes really. The Parisienne Walkways shirt, that looks human and that's why I don't like it It's too simple and casual for Yuzu standards. PW in Etude costume was like a 100 times more awesome and sassy imo. (My favorite LGC was the crazy swan at WTT 2017 btw.) For me Yuzu's real magic lies in his ethereal appearance and skating. When he looks like a swan or sakura fairy or sparkled salad or whatever non-human being, that's the most fascinating side of him. Both Origin costumes have this magic in different ways. While Origin 1.0 reminds me of ultraboss Zeus/Iupiter, Origin 2.0 gives me vibes of Athene/Minerva, the God of wisdom, strategy, battle and fine arts. (Footnote: I also celebrate Sakura Origin and Masquerade Origin ) EDIT: Completely different topic: Last year I made a compilation (720p) of Yuzu's nine CWW performances plus finale of day 3 (performances only without introductions, bowing etc). If there's interest, I could share it here on the Planet.

Sorry for this assay about my personal perception of Yuzu's costumes, but I really need to share my thoughts now... To make one thing clear: I cannot dislike any of his costumes really, because... well, it's Yuzu in it. That makes every costume look good. So on a popularity scale from 0 to 10 even the worst atrocities get a basic 5 from me. (Yeah, this is bias as hell, but I can't help.) First point: COLOR (this is my key criterium... colors are everything for me) Imo Yuzu looks a bit pale in any kind of light blue costume. Not cold, but pale. So even with the best design his light blue costumes can only get a 9 from me at best. It's a bit similar with Seimei 2.0. The design is mindblowing, but the white color melts too much into the ice for me. So only a 9.5 for that one, too. Footnote: In galas and ice shows Seimei 2.0 and white LCG would get big fat 10s. Colorwise my top favorites are both Origin costumes, Masquerade, azure blue Etude and H&L. I haven't seen them in real life, but in the photos and video material they look so intense and powerful. That alone raises them to 9-10 category for me. Notte Stellata and Haru Yo Koi might have bright pastell colors, but in the dark lights of the EX gala they work very well, so no color deduction here either. Second point: skin-colored mesh I'm absolutely no fan of this nylon-like mesh, especially when it doesn't match your skin color or throws ugly visible wrinkles. That's why Etude, H&L, Origin 1.0, Notte Stellata and Haru Yo Koi all get a 0.5 mesh-deduction from Henni. Origin 2.0 is the only Yuzu-costume that passed my very strict mesh-test so far. Third point: design/cut There are multiple costumes that haven't been mentioned above yet. In short: their design is not my cup of tea really. One exception is POTO 2.0. I really like that costume with the high black collar and deep V-neck. The mix of gold, black and blue structures looks very noble, too. However, it only gets a 9.5 from me, because I miss that sassy impact. It's too innocent for me (Maybe it would be different with 25 year old Yuzu in it...) So, the winner was among these costumes that passed both the color and mesh test: Masquerade and Origin 2.0. Masquerade looked incredibly cool, especially the leather version, but I had two concerns: 1. The different length of the sleeves and 2. the color of the red glove looked a bit awkward imo. Still a very good 9. Origin 2.0 has EVERYTHING and I can't stop praising it... THE perfect 10 for me. The 10 of 10s.

Honestly speaking. This voting is ridiculous in many ways. If you really want to crown the costume of the year, you give the chance to vote for EVERY costume that has been used at international level this season and you show every costume from the front, side and back, so that you can see the details (if there are any). I don't know which criteria ISU used for the nominations, but I bet my salary that it had nothing to do with the costumes in the first place. @quadaxelwin I'm super happy that it's Origin 2.0 costume. It's my all-time favorite Yuzu costume (yep, I like it even more than Seimei, Origin 1.0 and Notte). I love the deep purple color (that itself makes it an absolute winner for me), I love the butterfly and flower details, I love the mesh that finally matches his skin color perfectly, I love the super tight waistline and also the sassy deep oval neck. For me it's the most majestic costume he ever had. But I respect, if it's not everyone's cup of tea. EDIT: in my opinion the best Game of Thrones costume 19/20 is Otonal 2.0.
-
It's also interesting that the code number changes with every page refreshing. Let's play a game: How many different types of errors can occur in a simple ISU voting. LOL. EDIT: Voting page is back and my votings, too.
-
I tried to re-visit the awards page, but I can't get in either. I could vote like an hour ago, but now I only get a dubious error code. Do you think, they try to manipulate the voting or sth? It's really strange...

Aye, aye and aye. How convenient for ISU that Y comes nearly last in the alphabet. Well, let's save the best for last EDIT: I think, the main purpose of the first name sorting was not to put Yuzu last but rather to have the Eteri girls at the top. I mean: it's Alena, Alexandra, Alina, Anna,... That Yuzu is last in every list, is some kind of welcome double-convenience for ISU.
-
Okay, I've done my duty. It's funny that Gabi's and Cizo's aerobic costumes are not nominated for "best costume". I mean: They 100% hit the style of the 90s #Footnote: For Yuzu I was willing to scroll down the entire page of nominees in all categories. I really missed Otonal, though.
-
I don't think that Yuzu will talk us into loving anybody. He's one of the most diplomatic skaters I know, he finds nice words for every athlete, but I don't think that he would advertise a specific skater, who's still competing. Especially not at an official ISU ceremony. Plus: we still don't know, how long Yuzu intends to compete himself... I wouldn't be surprised, if he won a bunch of awards and announced at the ceremony: 'Thank you everyone. I feel very honored to receive so many awards. This motivates me a lot and I will work hard in the following X seasons to win more [YOU WON'T GET RID OF ME THAT EASILY]' *happy grin*

You can add: Worst ticket prices of the year Worst post of the year on ISU Twitter Special category: warhorse of the year

That's my biggest wish... Imagine a flamenco battle to Malagueña. Yuzu and Javi circling around each other and mirroring the moves. I bet my salary that Yuzu knows the choreo by heart Yeah. Dreams.

This interview just made my day. Thank you so much for the links and translation!! I try to imagine that moment, when Javi realized that he forgot his pants: "Sh*t. That much about practice today..." Yuzu (very intense thinking phase): "Javi, you can have my pants." Javi: "Wow, really?" <weird moment> Yuzu: "... ... ... ya." Also love the moderators in the show: asking Javi the totally innocent question, how many cast members ROI has. Javi: 10-12, acrobats included. "BUT IF YOU HAVE A FREE SPOT AND YUZURU HANYU CALLS YOU, COULD YOU GIVE HIM A ROLE THERE OR NOT?" "Of course I'd put him in the show. I don't know exactly where, but I'd put him." Loool.

Yuzu's recent competition and gala costumes are all gorgeous artworks and exhibits. I would prefer a museum with his costumes to Louvre anytime (and I'm a huge Louvre fan)
