Absolutely - and there are the photos with the old alongside the new one with the pins and a veery slight change of graduation in the blue - don't know what the fuss is about

Think I'd better lay in some gin for the weekend in case he picks Z or NDP

Doubt the judges will care- casual Olympic year fans won't know- it's only us that get emotional about it - it's amusing the hell out of me right now! The skating is the important bit you know- he could wear his UA and it wouldn't matter - look at Patrick Chans costume choices!

Laughed like mad when I came back to find pages of posts and photos of the 'new' costume! I take back everything I said about a new ex - he'll probably go back to 'Sing, sing, sing ' for his ex or maybe Rachmaninov ( been watching my DVD) or God forbid, Ziguenerweisen The Mizuno gear - I've always wondered why a Japanese sports company hadn't picked up on his preferred style of training gear and capitalised on it. Will watch with interest to see whether it's a one off.

That would be me- I didn't say upbeat I said rock/pop or stage musical- I suppose more mainstream tastes was what I meant really! I'm on my way out but I was checking the comp thread and saw this. I missed the jazz discussion while I was away - if we want something slow how about some old fashioned jazz like Dinah Washington or Sarah Vaughan - SVs Black Coffee?

If he goes for rock/pop I'd like something less pop/folky than that.

I think with a classical SP and a Japanese FS he'll go for either a rock/pop or a stage musical for his ex - whether he carries on recycling or does something new. I'd like something new.

Very sorry to hear that - I hope she is successful in finding the help she needs.

Oh I'm with you on that - there was about a page of chat on the team China thread on the subject. The SP is a bit rough but has lots of room for growth during the season - the music for the FS is just a mess and it's such a lost opportunity- SW/Planets has so much good music and it could have been a really good fit for him but not hashed up and thrown together as it is. I'm not crazy about the choreo tbh but they didn't have a lot to work with by the time the music arranger had butchered it.

To be fair to Nathan this is only his second season. Last seasons LP was a good one to start off with - familiar music that was easy to jump to, classical, so a bit of a nod to the ballet background, which reaped rich rewards. He's branching out this season and it will be interesting to see where he goes with it. I'm not a fan of either his or Shomas landing techniques- N's knees look stiff and jarring to me and S wrenches his knee - both make my knees wince in protest. I hope they both survive without doing any permanent damage. I prefer Boyang to either of them, because I perceive him as trying to add transitions etc to his jumping ability, but that may be a false perception as he has less media attention and fewer people talking/explaining/speculating about what he's doing and why.

The bielmann comes and goes depending on his condition I think - it was especially noticeable in 2014/15 season for obvious reasons. I don't think he'll go the way Plushenko did - he was one of those heavier skaters who muscled his way through the jumps - I think/hope that Ys technique and build will help him avoid that.

Sorry - feel free to shift any of my posts over there- I lose track sometimes

What troubles me is the possibility that judges might mentally ' carry over' credit from extra choreo/transitions etc that appear early in then season but aren't actually there on the ice in front of them later when he puts in the quads. I'm afraid I'm a total cynic about the system.

I think it was around 4CC that N said he wanted to retire and study medicine? If that is his goal then maximising the jumping is his best chance.

This is the point that annoys a lot of us I think- that if he has the potential he should be trying to use it rather than being rewarded for potential that he hasn't tapped yet. This seasons programmes may be a start, but who knows what they'll look like if/when he puts in all those quads. Unless he's managed to cram a couple of years worth of practice and experience into the off season the chances are we'll be back to maximum jumping, minimal transitions. Or I might be wrong and the softly softly start to the season may mean that despite the impression given last year, particularly by Arutunian, he is holding back on the jumps and beginning to try and do both, which would be nice. Time will tell.

Hey, remember us?
Because 'Blues for Klook' was used in today's JGP and @Fay reminded me of Daisuke Takahashi's version, which had faded in any detail from my memory, I went and had a look at the Worlds version and it was quite remarkable. I don't know how he didn't win. I'm afraid I still like S/H better - I think it's because the beat is so heavily marked and they don't miss it- DS is astonishing, S/H are astonishing x2.

The lighting seemed quite dim at ACI - the colours may look quite different at RC

I like the higher collar and the sharper green and the sort of braid detail on the collar and shoulder.
