  1. I read a few comments elsewhere, probably from an armchair fan like me who is not technically minded saying somewhat condescendingly that it isn’t possible to get good enough quality fancam footage to be able to tell. I don’t engage in social media anywhere but here, but I was dying to get stuck in and tell them that in fact it was perfectly possible and a disgrace that ISU doesn’t cover more angles themselves.
  2. We went through all this months ago - you only have to look at Shoma to see how difficult it is to rework bad technique which is why the - ‘but they’re so young’ excuse is untenable. When they’re young they need to learn good techniques and work their way through the doubles and triples. I have no time for cheated technique and little short cuts like moving the position of the blade on the boot. Nor should the ISU - the governing body ffs- yet they are encouraging it by their lax attitude to scoring, and refusal to even consider the issue of prerotation.
  3. Of course not - it’s FIFA in miniature- they see it as an erosion of their power, and I am beginning to seriously doubt that they care about the sport at all - like Mr Blatter they like to trot out and officiate at ceremonies and travel to competitions but the ground level stuff? I’ve seen no evidence of it.
  4. It’s very depressing- but these thing do go in cycles and the powers that be are not immortal - some of them will retire/ die in the next few years. And maybe there will be coaches coming through who have some integrity. God knows what Yuzuru will do but Javi is coaching, Lambiel, Joubert, I can imagine Jason as a coach or Patrick ( though I think he might be a bit hard to put up with tbh)
  5. And let’s not forget laziness - easier to just go along with things, not rock the boat at a low level, easier not to engage with things like tech that is an effort for you to understand at higher levels.
  6. Lovely thoughts - I’m just thinking about the next competition- the ‘traditional’ Skate Canada silver. Not feeling optimistic. Wish he was skating in Europe or China.
  7. I wondered whether he was sending a subtle message to JSF but it sounds like it’s just a sponsorship thing - pity
  8. There must be something in the atmosphere of Sendai....
  9. Had an email yesterday from Eurosport to say they were showing the skating this season. However today their Twitter says it’s still undecided 🤷🏼‍♀️
  10. Aaaargh - tense enough without this. Blasted ISU - why can’t they just stream adult competitions as FIG do. Emailed UK Eurosport to ask the question.
  11. I’m reading on the internet that ISU have a new media contract with some Chinese based company and eurosport won’t be showing the GP series - panicking here, I’m a complete Luddite who has a lot of trouble hooking up with new tech and more importantly I need to cancel my now totally useless subscription to Eurosport if this is true. Does anyone know anything about this?
  12. I would say it can’t be worse but I don’t want to tempt fate- if he could pick this he could pick anything......
  13. I really hope this is true....Richaud must have the cultural equivalent of a tin ear.
  14. If his health holds up. That is always the proviso. 2014/5, 2015/6, 2017/8, and 2018/9 were all bedevilled with illness and injury. A YH with titanium ankles, perfect respiratory system, and no collision accidents or urachal surgery issues would probably have already done the lot.
  15. Ages ago and possibly elsewhere on the internet - I honestly don’t remember- someone said that the circumstances which forged Yuzuru Hanyu were such that you wouldn’t wish them on anyone else - in other words, without the experience of disaster and the resulting emotional connection that he has with others that suffered and are continuing to suffer, you can’t reach the level of commitment coupled with empathy which he demonstrates in his skating. It’s more than just the sort of sporting motivation that is propelled by rivalry or nationalism or perfectionism. I’m a long-standing Uber fan of Kohei Uchimura and he has the latter two in spades, comes from the same culture, but doesn’t have that extra dimension that is a spur and a burden to Yuzuru Hanyu.
  16. Noooooo - diga diga doo - really? Play to your strengths Mikhail, you’re a fabulous classical skater if you can only stay on your bloody feet and stop falling ..... really depressed now.
  17. It’s very sad the way the big feds chew their athletes up and throw them away. Under that cheerful exterior Jason must be quite a tough nut to have survived.
  18. I’ll say - I’ve had it as an ear worm since I first read the suggestion and I haven’t even listened to the music.....
  19. My god there is a horrible idea - no, NO - no Rod Stewart, no Elvis and for the love of god absolutely no Rasputin. What are you smoking?
  20. Agree with all of this but specially the bit about music choices - I remember someone commenting in Nathan’s first senior year that the composer was doing the heavy lifting for him - sounds as though Berlioz will be doing the same.
  21. Mmm - I saw that one. TBH who cares what some anonymous idiot posts? He’s a perfectionist and wants to get things just so. He also changes them in search of that perfection which beats doing the same stuff in a different costume to different music. Personally I wish he’d drop Otonal at least because he’s cracked that one and I’d like him to pick something for himself rather than a tribute, but he’s not some pop star cranking out hits, he’s an athlete with certain goals in view and recycling may help him achieve those goals. He’s a competitor first and foremost - the swift demise of Zen Yuzu showed that.
  22. Catching up I realise I missed the pink catastrophe- what is it for? I mean, is it strawberry flavoured or something? Because if not what a strange colour to pick to use on red packaging - plus the face looks like a plastic shop mannequin version of his face- they must have hundreds of good photos of him. Half the internet could do a better photoshop job. Plus he looks absolutely marvellous in a plain white shirt - with that set of photos in the bag why use something that looks like really bad fan art? I don’t understand Lotte.....
  23. the perfect accessory to a weekend of figure skating - my inner 6 year old wants one
