  1. You think so? Money usually talks...and I'm sure they count on ticket sales to fund some things...so it'd have some kind of impact. I can sort of see the fairness argument, but only sort of. For it to be a valid argument, they'd have to ban all tossing of gifts/flowers on the ice at every competition, not just the Pooh rain. Incidentally, I understand maybe a little bit why Raf made his comment about the Pooh rain as I have been a coach (in a different sport though) myself. If your athlete knows the crowd is cheering for another and not them, it can be hard to deal with. On the other hand, it's not like Yuzuru is asking for fans to do this so as to gain advantage. It just happens, like soft ice conditions. It's the job of the coach to prepare his athlete for all the things that just happen, including Pooh rain. And Nathan seems to revel in it, it certainly hasn't psyched him out any. IMO the JSF commentary has nothing to do with any real effect the Pooh rain may or may not have had on Nathan and has more to do with other things.
  2. There's a glitch in every plan...doesn't mean it was a bad plan LOL.
  3. You know, the quickest way to get JSF's attention would be for fans to stop buying tickets to any events they organize. I'm pretty sure it would only take one boycott of, say, NHK Cup, and they'd change their tune on fans and Pooh's.
  4. No. The major errors, like falling or popping a jump, screwing up a spin, or missing an element completely, are spanking everyone equally. It's the things like edge calls and URs, and all the intricacies of PCS scoring, where the unevenness creeps in. One of the ISU's stated goals of this scoring system was to take away the 'why did that guy who fell on a quad win over a guy who landed a triple' factor, and frankly I think it's the only goal they've achieved at all. But it's not improving matters, because all the guys who are likely to fall on quads are also all the guys who usually have program quality high enough they they should be in the top five or top ten otherwise. So then mediocre performances that have no falls, have to be somehow justified in winning other wise, and personally I think that this might be a factor in lesser programs getting higher PCS than they should. I guess what I'm saying is that I think the way the new system is set up, TES and PCS have unintentionally become opposed to each other in ways they shouldn't be.
  5. He's really working at his English: http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1463688771799/
  6. Yeah. Of all of Yuzu's qualities to copy, Shoma just had to pick that one.
  7. It's so obvious though. Take Jason for example. His failed 4S and his other jump errors dropped him from 3rd in the SP to 14th in the FS. That would never have happened under past scoring systems.
  8. Okaeri. Well said indeed.
  9. When you see all 4 of them together like that, you can definitely see that he was having a harder time at Worlds - he visibly slows down towards the end of the program compared to the others. Probably because of the ice?
  10. It does have a certain comedic appeal.
  11. we'll have to choose with care...not sure it would be good for him seeing all our thirsting over the The Waist, no matter how humorous it may be...
  12. So this is what Google translate did to the last line of that article: "I will rest my feathered wings for a while to jump higher next year." Poetic.
  13. That was fast. I figured he'd stay in Japan for a while. Guess he meant right now when he said 'I want to train hard'. Or his doctors for his ankle are in Canada. or both.
  14. I like the photobook idea. It'll take a fair bit of planning and work. It might be simpler to have a Planet Hanyu T-shirt or scarf made up for him, something with a clear and simple design and a message printed on it that says something like 'Thank you for all your hard work up until now. We're with you every step of the way as you go forward. Love and respect from the satellites of Planet Hanyu" .
  15. How about a tracker for his gloves so he never loses or misplace a pair again? Like this: https://www.thetileapp.com/en-us/how-it-works
  16. ...but he's still planning to try, if he can, and also said this: "I'll do my best to master the #4A #4Lutz and #4F... I will probably make you all worried for me, but I hope you will keep supporting me." I personally think that tells us exactly what we need to do. Him saying his body is fragile and has a lot of injuries is just him acknowledging his current reality. Him saying he wants to push forward and keep getting better is his statement of what's going to happen, no matter what, if it's in any way humanly possible. I honestly don't think this is the time for telling him 'cheer up'. I think this it the time for telling him 'we have confidence in you, if you say you'll do it, we know you will.' Others may think otherwise but the reality is that Hanyu needs our solid confidence in him right now, more than anything.
  17. Those are lovely suggestions...but did you guys hear him in those post-competition interviews? He's burning with fire to continue and get better - and doesn't sound particularly down. So I personally think the best cheer we could give him, is to assure him that even though we're going to lose all our hair worrying about his injuries, we're with him all the way to whatever stratosphere he wants to rocket off to next. AND he's said he's back to his own 'origin' of wanting to win and overcome strong opponents again. I guess you could say we're about to see the genesis of Yuzu 2.0. So, how about a t-shirt with a suitable design along the theme of 'where ever he goes, we're with Yuzu 2.0' ? And yes, I do realize that I might just be proposing the fanyu version of an 'I'm with stupid' T-shirt...more like, 'I'm with crazy'....
  18. I always have 2 reactions to this: 1. WTH does Brian know? He was still able to 3A at the age of 39 ( see: Goodwill Games 2002), he probably thinks it's normal to do that. 2. On the other hand, no one else would know better what's possible to do than a man who made it to that age with his 3A intact. And then I Why do this to Shoma? They could just as easily send Kazuki. If you ask me, he should just take the whole summer off and limit his skating to the parts where he isn't flying through the air, but I guess that actually would backfire if he loses too much muscle and muscle memory One more thing: Happy Birthday, @micaelis!
  19. I hear "oh my god, Yuzu's doing his tea down and we're all like - " "WHAT?" "We're all just chillin' " The sound isn't particularly good, there's a lot of background noise. So yeah, I really can't hear clearly what she says he's doing. But even without that, it makes sense he'd do team trophy unless he's too injured to. He is Japan's big gun right now.
  20. It's really garbled at that part. It doesn't sound like she's saying 'team trophy' or 'WTT' to me.
  21. What, the idealization of a very limited interpretation of what it means to be feminine? Yes, I've noticed 😑, and it baffles me. Then again, it baffles me wherever I find it. It's just not logical to accord one gender primacy over another when we're all in the same boat together from a survival of the species standpoint. Okay, who left this soapbox lying around? I can't seem to step off it.
  22. See I've never understood the fascination with ladies' singles in the US. The Americans have had great skaters in all disciplines over the years, many big winners, but the ones who get the Disney parades and all the star treatment are the girls. Why? It smacks of an undue regard for archaic feminine stereotypes to me.
  23. This year's bird theme was phoenix tho, not swans...
  24. here's a thought: they could just let Nathan be Nathan, and his audience will find him, instead of the other way around. From there support and interest will build. Nathan's likeable enough. But IMO the saviours of American figure skating are/should be the Shib sibs. They've got the appeal, they've got the chops, and they're already doing it through their own social media anyway. I hope they come back to competition soon.
  25. the way I see it, the skaters (and any athletes really) also proclaim the work of God's hands and reflect His glory because He made them able to do great things. However, this is not a religious forum and I don't want to make others uncomfortable, so that's all I want to say about it for now. but it is nice to know we both see it
