(See if this works) Some video from the Rock the Rink Ottawa show: Tessa and Scott opening Tessa & Scott in blue
-
Patrick tryin' out a little pairs action? They had him doing some at Rock the Rink too!
-
Well, 'close' is a relative term, Kelowna is 5 or 6 hours by plane from Toronto, but yeah. Compared to that, Ottawa is practically in TCC's backyard.
-
No, no, no. He's going to win Skate Canada next year, too. I decree it!
-
In my seat at Rock the Rink, the Ottawa show, right now. This is the arena for SCI next year so I'm scoping it out for Yuzu-viewing potential. The seats are comfortable but very narrow. I'm worried I'll be jabbing my neighbor with my elbows! Also, so far as I can tell, every seat has a good view! Edited to add: Even though there's lots of parking under the arena, quite a few people in the audience around me were complaining about the difficulty of finding a space. Something to keep in mind Edit #2: also, the show was great! They gave Patrick all the cool, happy numbers.

If we make this comparison, one can't help but wonder who is the Benkei character in Yuzu's life. I don't know enough of Japanese history or literature to draw comparisons for Yuzu, but among Western references, I kind of come up short, mainly because to me, Yuzu seems to have a unique existence. He really isn't like anyone who's come before - he's just his superlative self. If I were forced to make a comparison, the people I'd be looking at are the real way out there visionary geniuses who let nothing stop them - the Edmund Hilarys and Stephen Hawkings of the world. The ones who truly broke new ground to follow their visions and had the talent to make their vision possible. And those are few and far between.
-
Most definitely.

Grazie!

This. I foolishly did not realize that you can download videos from twitter and so did not download. It was such a glorious moment, too! Yuzu was perfect. If ever you wanted a video to sell the non-FS world on figure skating, that would be the one. WTF, ISU. WTF. Well, at least we know it happened, and the footage is still somewhere safe with Jordan. And we all got to see it, so there's that.

he was there at Skate Canada's invitation as official press, so why? They're not asking TV Asahi to take down newsclips. oh, wait. Maybe they wanted him to pay some kind of licensing fee or something? I mean, I have no idea how these things work but if they were paying him to be there technically they could claim his footage is their property, not his. On the other hand, if he was simply invited as a freelancer and retains the rights to his work, but they have some kind of legal copyright over what gets filmed by official press at ISU competitions, ...ugh, anyway, I don't have enough knowledge to guess about it but this is really petty, it seems to me.
-
@Umebachi compared him to Yoshitsune. Either way...
-
And rightly so

I was joking about the psychic ability, by the way. I'm just saying that Plush recognized Yuzu's potential surprisingly early on.
-
Is that really fair to say about Voronov, though? Yes, he's obviously not on the same level as Yuzu as a skater. But he goes to the same level of competitions. Anyway, if anyone knows about doing four Olympics and competing til your body cries for mercy, it would be Plush. If he says Yuzu could do it, I believe it. But would Yuzu do it, is the question. I'm not convinced. Personally I think Yuzu is already in a realm he never expected to be, still competing strong after two Olympics, and that he's taking things competition by competition, day by day. What he said in his interview after SCI bears witness to that.
-
Yes, move Thanksgiving to the second weekend in October instead - no comps then!
-
That doesn't say much about the current crop of juniors, does it? Basically Plush is saying no one like Yuzu will rise up for at least another 8 years... I guess it all depends on how long Yuzu will be able to have this competitive fire within him to win, and on remaining injury free.
-
Then whoever he picks for Beijing, I'm going to put money on. Because I never would have picked Alina.
-
So the day NHK starts (Nov 22) is also the day I have: The furnace guy coming a hair appointment my mom wants me to take her to her mammogram mandatory radiation safety training at work (on my day off!!) and the office Christmas party in the evening. How did this happen? Don't these people know I have Yuzu skating to watch?!
-
Plushy the psychic? I wonder how he was able to recognize the greatness in Yuzu so early.
-
-
There's no guarantee that Chiddy will be the one handing it out, but yes,
-
Well, except that Plushy also had injuries, too. His back, wasn't it? Something about getting steel rods implanted because of a fracture or something?
-
Sounds tailor-made for Yuzu! Nice that they nominated Brian McKeever (a Paralympian) too.
-
Well, it's bad that he felt that way, but it's good that he doesn't get complacent! That's how he keeps winning.
-
This is why he's such a champion. "Good, better, best - never let it rest" could be his motto!
