General Skating Chat
rockstaryuzu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Guys, don't forget that it's not just about audience size at ACI, but also travel restrictions etc. The way things are looking at the moment, only fully vaccinated travelers are going to be allowed unrestricted entry to Canada. If you're anxious to go to ACI, get vaccinated ASAP. I still don't think things will change for ACI and I don't expect tickets for it to be sold. However, SCI is looking like a reasonable prospect. Again, it all hinges on vaccination rates, so get that jab already.- 6,825 replies

Happy to help ☺

Meant to delete this...sorry Like Yuzu, you just need that last 1/8 of a rotation. You know he'd say "Ganbare!" to you if he saw this story.
-
Good to see that White Wall-kun still has his back.
-
And he absolutely loves it when he gets the reaction he's after, too. You can tell he's having fun with this.
-
And we all benefit from your translations @Umebachi, thank you so much. beyond that, even better, Yuzu motivates non-Japanese speakers to learn some Japanese so as to understand his words. 🙂 At least, that's what happens for me. It'll probably be years before I'm able to follow a conversation though.
-
And here I was thinking how awesome that the page was set up to translate everything...I am a tad thick sometimes, yes indeed. 😀

I'm not from Quebec. Being able to understand this much French is the basic level all Canadians are expected to pick up in school, as an officially bilingual country. There isn't any issue with what you're writing. It's just very unusual to see full posts on the main discussion thread in anything other than English, which is why people are commenting. Also, there's a lot of satellites whose first language is neither English nor French...I honestly have no idea how they manage, but my hat's off to them for trying.
-
Okay, I realize I'm coming back late and my theory has been shown to be incorrect, but for the record, the Italian shows up in Italian and the English, in English.

Latest from Roman.

Sort of. You're the only one whose posts appear in French, so it sticks out. I do read French and I can understand what you're saying most of the time. But it's just odd that only your posts show up French. Like, I never had to hit the translate function for anyone else's stuff til now. And I'm certain that not every post on here is written in English originally

I find it amazing that ToshI-chan, a seasoned professional who has been performing longer than Yuzu's been alive, was so affected by watching him that he couldn't sing properly if he looked at Yuzu. Really speaks to the emotional power of Yuzu's skating. I love the little gold wings! When COVID first hit Canada and Worlds 2020 got canceled, the provincial government shut rinks and sports facilities down, so at that time there was nowhere for Yuzu to train. So he packed up and went home to Japan. Since then, the current mandatory 14 day quarantine for all travelers arriving in Canada is most likely the main obstacle to him coming back. Now there's rumors that if the infection rate keeps dropping, the government will lift the quarantine for vaccinated travelers in July. At that time, if Yuzu is vaccinated, I assume he would come back. Also, welcome!

I always thought the page auto-translated into the viewers chosen language, so I'm not understanding it myself.

And when Yuzuru pulls up to Beijing with a 4A, A4+A3 combo, 5S and the Otamatone version of Ten To Chi To it's over for everyone. To be promptly followed by someone claiming that the Otamatone is 'too Asian ' to be understood by the wider figure skating audience...
-
This is unquestionably Yuzu's greatest gift. And it just happens because he's him. It's amazing, really.
-
I never thought of that!! Also, welcome!
-
once he hits that 4A, no other explanation required I hope you share Squeakade when it's done!
-
...but he likes cute things. What if he gets enthralled by it? . . Wait . . wait . . Wait! . . what- what if... Nah, he wouldn't... ...would he? What if he got... . . *whispers* inspired?!!! Just picture it...instead of Ballade...Squeakade

We haven't even had those this summer! DOI can't start soon enough!
-
Oh my God, we need fresh Yuzu crumbs so badly, if this is what we've come to...
-
Oh, on that level, I agree. I know Aljona said she and Bruno couldn't get sponsorship and financial support for another year of skating for Germany, so on that front, I can more or less understand a decision to change countries. But everything else about this makes no sense and is really wrong.
-
Oh my goodness. Could you imagine if, the first time Yuzu is greeted by Nekomasamune, Nekomasamune is wearing Seimei costume? Or Tenchi?

@Henni147 I can see I haven't phrased things clearly. My point was, 'Super Slam', 'Grand Slam', 'Golden Slam, etc, while they might be terms that get used to describe the achievement of winning all those competitions, are not 'official' titles or 'official' trophies handed out by the IOC or the ISU - skaters can earn the achievement, but there's nothing directly awarded from any organization called, for example, the 'Super Slam Trophy', or whatever, that can be rescinded or taken away from the skater. It's more of a matter of record-keeping, where the ISU acknowledges it as a matter of note. And Yuzu is already on record for the achievement.
