  1. She's very brave. It must have been very difficult for her when so many prominent people in the US figure skating community were defending Coughlin, and she's probably putting her relationships with some of them at risk by coming forward (though I hope this is not the case). Hopefully it'll get those people to reevaluate their actions and be more circumspect in the future.
  2. I don't think Otonal has been skated to full potential *ducks* His landing on the combo at CoR was a bit off, and his posture could be improved, especially in the step sequence (and tbh I think the waistline of the costume accentuates this--I hope there are some costume alterations). Overall the program is not at the level of Chopin yet. Plus he could always upgrade the tech content, though I'm not sure it would be worth it from a risk reward standpoint.
  3. On the other hand, cats are good jumpers and always land on their feet. Plus they have a killer instinct and can go from adorable to murderface very quickly wow that's amazing! I've seen a surprising amount of older people practicing figure skating here. I wonder if I've ever seen him train.
  4. Even if he does recycle, he’s had what, like 4 performances of his programs? That’s only half a season. So it’s not like we’ve seen him perform these programs over and over again, they’re actually still fairly new in terms of the number of outings they’ve had.
  5. too bad I can't cancel my work for the same reason oh well. it'll make ACI even more exciting, at least
  6. “Most of the World Championships” is what I'd go for
  7. Yeah, Yuzu definitely likes to jump. I mean, based off my own meager experience jumping is really fun haha
  8. Yeah, the trade off is it’s SUPER crowded. I skate in a tiny mall rink and tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if there were as many as 80 skaters on the ice at any given moment during peak hours. Fortunately the high level jumpers tend to skip those times, but I had to move my lesson time to a peak hour and I have maybe enough space to practice a small waltz jump with no entry. I’ve really been neglecting backwards edge work because I have to keep stopping because of the high chances of running into someone since I don’t have 360 vision. Not to mention when center ice isn’t being used for lessons, rec skaters with very poor control feel the need to skate through center ice where people are practicing elements. Half of your brain space is being used on monitoring other people to avoid collisions, so it’s hard to focus on practicing in those conditions. I obviously have no advice since I’m only working on half flips (current status: lol how do toe jumps work, I don’t get the part where I jump after picking into the ice), but good luck! I also feel like I’m extra cognizant of certain jump qualities because of Yuzu. Sort of relatedly, I was watching a video on how to do a flip and the instructor specifically said to pick only with the toe and not to let the rest of the blade touch the ice, because getting on the rest of the blade would make the jump more like a loop. Pretty sure the video was made before the blade-picking issue got attention, so that was interesting.
  9. No, I just over trained, I think. It's mostly better now, but I have to be careful on how much I jump. Also I have to be careful about jumping only after I've warmed up/gotten my joints loose. Landing on a stiff ankle seems to aggravate it. Inside 3 turn improves by the day! (Well, RFI anyway, LFI still sucks). Still can't do a drunken sailor though. One problem is that I can't figure how to exit a mohawk on a flatter edge. The place I live is hot all year so they may as well keep the rinks open in during the summer
  10. Yeah. Not sure what the obsession is with making Boyang skate to serious music--he seems to do better with energetic, modern music (eg. spiderman, my guitar gently weeps). Let him do fun stuff--he'll connect much better with the audience that way.
  11. Me too...so I did and have now been skating for nearly 9 months! It's actually really fun and good cardio, and waaaaay better than most forms of exercise. And you're not thaaat likely to get injured. My ankle hasn't been super happy with me recently though--no idea how people's ankles can sustain quads when mine gets achey over waltz jumps
  12. Not sure if lurking your own fan forum is really cute or really lame psst, Yuzu, if you are lurking: just because we love you doesn't mean we won't make fun of you muahahaha Out of curiosity, do you have any examples of Yuzu appearing to address discussions in this forum?
  13. I finally did an inside 3 turn off the wall! This nightmare element has been bring me down for months. I'd been struggling with it on my own, but then I had a lesson yesterday and my coach was like "okay first hold the inside edge for a bit, then turn" and it was easy and now I have no idea why it ever gave me so much trouble. Bad news is I think I gave myself a mild sprain or something from jumping too much. How does someone like Yuzu jump quads all day when my ankle starts being upset at me after two weeks for jumping waltzes? I take back my offer of my ankle tendon and ligaments to Yuzu--they are clearly not made to sustain so much jumping.
  14. I mean, don't we all? Everyone knows who the top contenders at any given competition are--between reputation scoring and past results, you can make a pretty reasonable guess as to who will most likely place high.
  15. I feel like I'm in a corny drama where I'm on the brink of life and death and Yuzu is the angel telling me to go back and live
  16. ...I didn't even realize we were hosting. *looks it up* But it's in Dongguan though? That's on the other side of the border. The protests are mostly happening in the Central to Admiralty parts of Hong Kong Island, which isn't close at all the where the competition is supposed to happen, plus who knows if they're still going to be happening in August. I'm confused.
  17. Did some waltz-waltz sequences last session. Jumping is fun! For some reason I find the sequence easier than the 3 turn-step forward entrance my coach is making me do. Probably because I'm always tempted to rush that entrance haha. My coach is also making me do some mohawk-crossover sequence, which I think is called a drunken sailor (lol) which is apparently from freestyle 3 in the USFS curriculum, which sounds about right because I cannot figure out how to do it. I can hold the edge out of my mohawk just fine, but then I need to shift my weight over the blade to change from BI to BO and step over with my other foot? (also the day in which I finally gather enough courage to do an inside 3 turn off the wall approaches...very slowly. But I can tell it's actually approaching.)
  18. I agree that Misha's assignments are fine for him. There's no pressure to win against Yuzu, and the NHK and SC fields aren't particularly strong for men. plus if Yuzu bombs and loses to someone, I'd rather it be Misha than anyone else...although Yuzu bombing would probably be followed by Misha bombing if he skated after Yuzu I suppose Misha could have challenged for gold against Vincent though, depending on the tech panel...though tbh with Misha you get the feeling that having gold in sight would cause him to do worse, not better. Alina didn't get Rostelecom either and she's World Champ (nor did Anna Shcherbakova, who is Russian champ). Tbh that's more egregious than Misha not getting it.
  19. How hard is it to remember Yuzu is Japanese, I mean his name is clearly Japanese and not the least bit Chinese sounding
  20. Lots of camera phones can manage 240fps these days! If more than one person does it we can have a bunch of different angles.
  21. I was going to shoot jump practice at 240fps this season for all the competitions I’m going to. I was thinking of going to CoC since it’s relatively convenient for me. Okay, now I’m seriously considering going. Plus I want to get a height estimate on Boyang’s beautiful 4Lz!
  22. It is striking though how noticeably better he is now than in 2014, though obviously he was still very good in 2014. That makes me feel kind of sad for the low average age of top competitors in ladies. If even Yuzu isn't fully mature at 19, how can we expect a bunch of 15-18 year olds to deliver mature performances? By the time they are capable of doing so they've been superseded by the next generation of technical wunderkinds.
  23. ToshI has reached a level of fandom that the rest of us mere mortals will never hope to reach. Anyway, the Olympic video made me realize that I don't think I ever saw the 2014 Oly gala. Given that Yuzu won gold both times and skated swan themed EXs both times, clearly if he goes to Beijing he has to do another swan ex Also, his necklace had an interesting journey during his 2014 FS. It started out under his illusion mesh (although...why???) but had come out by the end, presumably to lend Yuzu the strength to fight through the rest of his program. Also boobskirt is very, very shiny, which makes me appreciate it even more.
  24. Maybe Misha is just a fanboy and wants to go to the same events as Yuzu if so I empathize with the sentiment. Interesting that Alina is not at CoR. Tbh kind of suggests that Rusfed wanted to clear the field for Sasha.
