Yuzuru mentioned in the Kenji's Room interviews that Brian was an absolute rock of support, which is nice.... it was a situation I don't think any coach can ever prepare himself for, his injured charge still insisting on going out and doing those quads, and Brian had to watch it all.

Eeee.... what a first video to come across, I still flinch at the memory of it and how fans watching it live didn't lose hair along with Brian... and if you find threads of people watching it live (say on GS forum) the shock and horror and "why is he DOING this???" is palpable all these years later. I was lucky, my first sight of him was 2015 Seimei (though being as it was as I was browsing, I can't recall if it was NHK or GPF)

Team we're fewer but still good!
TallyT replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
I think people need to be extra careful careful, because he is indigenous there would be in some quarters a tendency to try and find a way, even if totally untrue, to allocate blame or criticise him (racism towards the indigenous is a problem here, horrible as it may be). His own message yesterday sounded distraught. Her poor mother has had to be hospitalised.... -
Umm... the pandemic is getting worse as we speak. According to this site https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ There were over 240,000 new cases yesterday, over 70,000 in the US alone. I cannot see any way that they can run international competitions, no matter what the precautions and restrictions, unless a miracle happens. And virtual competitions are lovely for small, unofficial events like the Peggy Fleming... but even an organisation way more efficient, trustworthy, cashed up and tech-savvy than the ISU would not be able to run big official ones.

Yup. Even bad publicity can be spun as better than none at all. But even the most determinedly blind of Ari's little pro-awards cohort can't be unaware that 99% of the impressions were about Yuzu - and Alina not getting a nomination - and how the poor live viewing figures suddenly shot up for the completed views once people knew Yuzu had won. They won't admit it, but they will be chewing fingernails about Yuzu deciding, if the hiatus goes on too long, that he might not come back after all, or will just long enough for his 4A. They will need Yuzu and the Japanese stars to get the sport going again...

The Peggy Fleming competition does not impact skaters' points or standings, so they can go with the 'send us video' thing. For any official competition, the amount of checks and resrictions and technical overseeing and equivalences involved, in every country that has eligible skaters.... nuh-uh.

Dear Henno, my deepest condolences, and hopes and thoughts for the rest of your loved onces - and those of everyone here - to be safe and recover from this awful time.
-
Oh I agree, their safety and health is paramount, and that of the teams and family around them. Yuzu has had very little serious downtime - apart from illness and injury which hardly counts! - for years, and we saw last year he was pushed to exhaustion. He seems to have found somewhere where his privacy is kept, which is good.

I'm not surprised - and I expect the GP series to follow - but you will find me sitting in the corner watching my Yuzu videos and sobbing quietly.... I am glad he achieved everything there is to achieve before this horrible time, and my heart goes out to the ones who are just setting out, especially the ladies with their short time. But given the amount we miss him.....

Any reason to put Yuzu on the covers... Mind you, that OC article managed to (I'm sure by accident) call Nathan's skating machine-like.... someone didn;'t read their notes about art and ballet.
-
How could they go over budget when it was basically a fancy zoom conference????????? (Mind you, won't it be funny if Yuzu ends up the first, last and only Most Valuable Skater ever?)
-
The live figures were low, but the minute it got out who had won, the views of the complete video on youtube started climbing, and I think are over 126000 now. Not sure what they will make of it all as to whether it is worth doing next year, especially if they are dealing with a truncated season anyway...

Sending heaps of thoughts and wishes that you and yours will be okay! It was lovely of Yuzu to mention it, he never ever seems to forget the people back home who have had hard times but are supporting and are supported by him. I think this is part of the reason that, ISU be damned or not, the bottom line be damned, I do see Yuzu as the most valuable skater all round He tries so hard to ensure the world is a better place for his time in it.

Okay, can't help snickering... even if we have no opinion of the ISU and their award, it's Yuzu's fair and square and someone has already added it to his wiki page.
-
I've lost the tweet with the caps, but they looked just that but too short (not as bad as his official jacket at PC) and too much cuff showing. I could be wrong...
-
Mind you, you have to laugh at how the clip is all MADISONMADISONMADISONevan?MADISON!!! It is a magnificent dress. One thing, seeing some pictures (and doesn't he look great? not too formal but dressed with respect for the audience) I did notice something reassuringly Yuzu... The sleeves of his jacket. As always, the sleeves are the wrong length. Yet again, Mister Hanyu has bought a suit (or jacket, he could have been wearing jammies like Jason) that does not fit. He is so lucky he has Satomi to dress him on ice....

I've been thinking (once I got over the shock of 'they did the right thing!') and it occurred to me that the ISU - certainly Zakarian (sp?) intended it for Nathan, right from the start but then in the last month or so the pandemic has made it clear that the season - and therefore the sport's general popularity and bottom line worldwide - is going to take an almighty hit. And Yuzuru, the top Japanese, and the Russian and Korean girls are their only real hope to get back attention and income once international skating gets going again (which I doubt will be before the new year at the earliest, but who knows?) So all of a sudden, toadying to the US Fed over their award show was not worth it. The omission of Alina in anything (c'mon, they could have made it four nominees, or even five like the Oscars, and brought in Sui/Han) and the godawful mess they made of the bios doesn't support my suspicions, unless it was a last minute thing... but I can't help wondering.
-
Sad that he seems to have known the ISU wanted it to go elsewhere... But you notice that, as always, Yuzuru thinks of other people and shows he cares about them. And they wonder why Japan, and others, love the man as well as the skater.
-
We got to see that same wall again..............
-
I am absolutely stunned that the ISU let this happen... and already pretty well convinced that had it not been for the online backlash, they would not have. But I am glad, he deserves it and more for pretty much everything he has done for the last ten years for the sport he loves.

Oh definitely. Mao Asada is deeply loved and Daisuke Takahashi and the quite brilliant group at his time brought mens skating into serious fandom.

I am planning to avoid the internet (except for the streaming party) until the nosense has been and gone and died down. But on a more fun note, I saw this tweet and had to laugh...
-
Has Nathan Chen been asked to put up a message on the ISU channel asking people to watch the thing? I bet he won't, the messages there - even Sasha and Evgenia - have a tiny number of views compared to Yuzu's. And the ISU would not want their favourite's message to get the reaction it so definitely will....
