It was awfully nice of the man! I know it's a long shot and probably no FaOI but even if so, this was so good, that it'll definitely help us survive the summer drought, or at least until August!

It's not possible, I think it's in our job description to angst over the tiniest things I saw this on Twitter the other day and it is A+++ description of how the FS fandom (over)reacts:

Guess the New Programs! (and win nothing if you do)
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Yes, you do! Points for each section, then I'll add them up in a document! So hopefully we won't all end up at 0 I edited the OP, most goes for the specific piece, genre the least as it is quite broad! Mmm yes, something like that. Piece of cake (you forgot choreographers!) -
I am actually not too thrilled by that 3t?
-
Don't forget the Japanese are airing all 3 shows soon, we'll have threads for that so we can remind ourselves soon!
-
True But he has the right attitude, and it's brill to see. He cannot control any of it so he might as well not worry and enjoy his time!
-
Our little game as promised! Come and play, come and play! It should be fun (because we will so suck at it)

Guess the New Programs! (and win nothing if you do) (apart from our collective admiration) (I suck at inventing prizes) (plus come on, what are the odds) (maybe a prize for the biggest dud?) Ahem. So it's a pretty easy format. Yuzuru's new programs, all three and your picks! SP - Music Genre - actual piece/song by so and so - choreographed by FS - Music Genre - actual piece/song by so and so - choreographed by EX - Music Genre - actual piece/song by so and so - choreographed by (points 1 - 3 - 2) Fun and laughter guaranteed at how bad we can be at this, once it is all announced! 3, 2, 1 - go! PS - please tag me if you change your mind (but pretty please don't do that often, or we'll have a mess) so that I can see your new guess.

Goodness, where would that leave Yu, if they do end up with Li/Zhao. Considering the past .... sigh. At least Boyang is happy and his sunny self!

This part especially, super important! I know many peeps are stressed and it's understandable but this is a great thing to always remember. Of course it won't be a walk in the park to get it all back but it'll be because the 4Lz is such as it is, not an easy jump at all, and not so much because it is inherently an iffy thing when it comes to Zu. Knock on wood, it'll be fine. Ommmm
-
Oh I'm not fussed about it because her achievement was truly something, so overall, it's the best option once I put Zu out of the running. USFSA, I mean Icenetwork, was never going to give it to Zu anyway cause of Nathan so at least this way it went to a great skater. I still find the whole thing incredibly hilarious though
-
Mhm, I'd bet on it. Though I don't agree with it ... oops ...
-
Improve it. Yuzuru's been deconstructing his Axel in order to work on the quad and really, there's nothing to worry about, knock on wood. Tbh, I am in the camp of the people who don't worry about the 4Lz either. It was just a combination of really blah circumstances - fever, new jump, ice, etc - and well, what happened, happened. I think if he's healthy, he'll get it back with more difficulty but only because it was a new jump and in a way, he's starting over now. The CoR landing will do him good there too, he has that one confirmation that he can. If I am to worry about anything, I would be thinking more about his ankle, in relation to all of this but weirdly enough, I remain zen

For all his talent, Yuzuru Hanyu has limits; he's a human being. On top of that, his health is an aditional limiter. You are also severely underestimating the 4A. It is, I repeat, a dangerous, highly difficult jump. Even for him, it's a matter of many months of hard work, concentrating on that jump. And he has more to do than just that, as he's in the middle of rehab and hasn't even touched 3 of his jumps due to his leg. So it's a complex situation and currently, all indicators are it'll take time. It won't take 4 seasons but it won't be a quick thing either. It'll take a while. I'd like to think I'm not conservative in my estimates, after all I kept insisting the 4Lz was coming last season but this time, it's a different situation. Like I said, I do see him YOLO-ing the thing in the 2nd half of 2018/19 but serious, consistent inclusion really seems more realistic for 2019/20. @cinemacoconut no, it's wishful thinking. The 4A is very new, like last off-season new.
-
4A is a last summer thing. In re to how long it'll take, 4A is dangerous. I keep repeating this, but this is not a weeks thing. Yagudin almost broke his neck trying it. There's a reason why nobody has gotten to it yet and why even the 3A is so dodgy for so many. In Yuzuru's case, additionally, a lot will depend on how his recovery is going, so even if he wants to give it at least a try next season, it may not be feasible considering the timing. He also has to recover the Lz/Lo/F. We'll have to wait and see but as things stand now, from the info we have, while I could see him give it a go next season for the fun of it at say WTT, serious competition inclusion of the 4A is probably a matter of 2019/20. Of course, we will probably get additional info as season progresses as there is no way media will leave him alone about this, so it'll be easier to make an educated guess.

You know, for me at least, even reading all the translations of both interviews and videos is pretty telling. No, we don't get all the nuances of Japanese itself, which is unfortunately our loss, but at the same time, we can still see how thoughtful and eloquent he is, even like this and we can catch glimpses of it. My personal favorites lately have been the pressers post Olympics.
-
As far as I am concerned, this is an extreme conclusion which really has nothing to do with what I said nor does it correspond to the actual state of things. We'll agree to disagree as our opinions fundamentally differ. I don't recall I said USA media bashed Yuzuru; I said their approach to skating coverage needs to be more balanced in my opinion. That is not the same thing.
-
When it comes to the musical chairs, yes, it seems so. They and Boyang. @kaeryth basically?
-
Well, there's the whole - Olympics in China - thing which may help out that whole mess a bit. I am not sure it'll help as much as it does when it is in NA or Europe but it should at least help out somewhat. Of course, we're also getting into the new rules territory and we're yet to see that genius so who knows how that'll play out - if it will help reset the system for a more equal one or not. Alas, there'll always be some of this, I don't think we can escape that.

There is a difference between hyping up your skater to the point where he is God, which is what was done with Nathan pre-Olympics and having at least a somewhat objective coverage, which is what, for example, you'll see with the Japanese (or the Spanish, who have been quite complimentary of Yuzuru for example). In my opinion, NBC, and the whole of US media, actually did Nathan Chen a disservice with this type of behavior because the pressure was enormous and he could not handle it. He cracked when it counted the most but it really wasn't surprising; many expected it. The way they behaved after the SP wasn't pretty either. In terms of Yuzuru, I think they can be both all right, which is usually what happens in the actual moment (when he's skating) but overall, it's very hit and miss how they behave towards him (and not just him). I honestly think it is a disservice to the general public in the USA that more isn't being done to introduce others to all of them, not just Yuzuru, because I refuse to accept the cop out that is USA wants only USA. No, I think that's a lazy excuse and there are plenty of Americans who would have no issues enjoying a more varied coverage. Of course that the 'local' skaters get the most focus but balance is possible. In re to this, as I said, yes, I do find the Japanese to be more balanced in their overall approach to skating and I find them to be much more open towards international skaters as a whole as their public is very educated. You can easily see this in the skaters who do ice shows there. Granted, it's probably difficult to get a view of how things are in Japan due to the language barrier, when it comes to the media. Nathan Chen is for example very popular there and quite appreciated and this isn't new, he has been since his first Senior season. As for Instagram, Twitter, etc, we here alas can do very little about it but if you encounter it on this board, please report it. Saying that someone thinks coverage isn't good in the US isn't hate though. It's a valid opinion, even if we don't agree at all, or partially with it

We will end up being either completely blasé about the oddest things or we'll end up members of AA. Again. At this point, I'm just waiting for Hanee to show up as part of an ID couple
-
If it is, maybe she's just testing but still. I mean it opens the door, no? And if so, what happens with Yu. Sigh.

Who knows at this point That looks like Xiangning Li to me and there's definitely something going on! Yes

I had to switch to a different one and the first one was so perfect. Sniff. (Thank you! )
