Captain Yuzu: attention ladies and gentlemen, currently it is windy with a chance of pooh rain. to avoid the unexpected turbulence we shall be taking the #emergency #yolo route to our destination. don't worry, everything is within my calculations. Passengers: *screaming* Next day's newspapers: yuzuru hanyu lands plane; +3 GOE

I love how Yuzu is sitting in the pilot's seat and how chuffed he looks. Not that I would want to be in a plane flown by Yuzu.

I think what you said earlier about this rule change being a reactive power grab by ISU is interesting. ISU is not looking for the perfect skater. Someone like Mitsuki could theoretically fit the new rules very well, but if Mitsuki Sumoto is not who ISU wants at the top, they'll just lowball him on GOE. And with the reduced BV of quads and triples, trying to bridge this gap by including more difficult elements would be an extremely inefficient process. Then whoever ISU wants to favour would be given generous GOE scores. This might be extreme but I think what ISU is after is a way to manipulate scores to their liking without superficially appearing to be unfair.

I think, strategy wise, repeating programs shouldn't be that much of a problem... In Sochi, Yuzuru used 1 repeat program (Parisienne Walkways) and 1 new program (R&J 2.0). He broke a record with PW but kinda flopped in R&J 2.0. The key is to put out a good quality skate. Not that that's easy to do, but Yuzu has the benefit of working with familiar programs and a (relatively) conservative layout, so I think he already made his job easier there. There could be some negative politicking, like people trying to portray him as lacking originality or whatever, but I don't think that will pull down his PCS at all if he skates like how he did at NHK Trophy 2016, GPF 2016 or Worlds 2017. Repeat or not, I think Chopin and Seimei are far superior to anything the other skaters have put out so far in terms of artistry and originality. Especially Seimei! Personally though, I feel like he should add 4Lz. But seeing Yuzuru say that he doesn't need 4Lz with such confidence makes me doubt my own reasoning... It's like when you come out of an exam feeling that you got the right answers but the smartest kid in class has different ones from you... Anyway, even if Yuzu is wrong he will find out very soon (at least before the GPF, as he is going head to head with some strong rivals earlier than that) and there will be time for him to add 4Lz, since he says he can already jump it.

I think we should take a vote! Through a poll or something.

It's the opposite for me, when I always refer to Yuzuru as "my no. 1 fav guy" when i talk about him to my cousin, and my cousin will be like "yes i know, Yuzuru" *rolls eyes*

I think the R&J 2 costume has a lot of individual components that are absolutely lovely - gorgeous rhinestones, beautiful white to black gradient, some very intricate detailing, unconventional frills, etc., but i never know what's the main focus with the costume. like is it the really huge rhinestones in contrasting hues. is it the lacy boobskirt. is it the detailed bit where his white top fades into his black pants. or is it that half collar half illusion mesh thing on his neck. To me, it doesn't portray a solid message / character because of the thematic messiness. (disclaimer: my opinion only, i don't deny perhaps others can appreciate the theme of this costume better than me.) i think hope and legacy brings together similar components in a better way - there's that nice gradient from green to blue, a generous helping of bling, some frills and folds - but you can see the general idea. it's like a galaxy, or sea foam - the beauty of nature in general.

I think yuzu does have a masculine side to him, but because he's also not afraid to show femininity, some people with rigid gender roles engrained in their minds can't process how that can be possible. So they think he's not masculine, or completely feminine. Truth is, he has both, he's a complex person. (me too, at first i thought yuzu's main draw was that he looked like some fresh faced idol. at that time i had no clue about anything in figure skating.)
-
Johnny Weir, for example. I like how Yuzuru once said he wants to be a skater with the qualities of both Johnny Weir and Plushenko. They're very different skaters but Yuzuru does not limit himself.

Gummy smile aside, Nishikori looks rather ordinary. I don't think he's particularly handsome. But sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I first came to know of Yuzuru, I thought he was ~sort of~ cute but a bit weird looking. Like his neck was too long to be real and his chin was bit odd? But I really like Yuzu as a person and because of that I am endeared to his face. I think he's super cute now. Maybe Nishikori's fans think he's hot because they just like him as a person / athlete.
-
I agree completely Yuzu can't be fit into labels or boxes, he is complex and interesting and is not afraid to show it.
-
Well, what's so important about being masculine anyway. One of the things I like about yuzu is that he's not afraid to explore femininity. He's not caught up about showing how macho he is to the world, he is secure in his own identity and open minded. I think some of these people forget, female skaters can jump triples, and may move on to quads in a few years as the sport progresses, strength is not exclusive to a certain gender.

Quad axel is his dream~ The thirst is real.
-
I do strongly disagree with this inane confession, but whoever coined the phrase "quad thirst" is just... a comic genius QUAD ThIRST indeed wtf

^ It's so funny, he's a world class athlete at the top of his game, and people think he's "fragile"................

It's ok... With all the wedding talk going on in our forum, Yuzuru (or parts of him at least) already has more spouses than necessary.

Wow, I love this. The music truly reflects Yuzuru's spirit. I think it could make a really good free skate piece. It would be great for Yuzu to do something epic and inspirational like this, especially during Olympic year, it could be a legendary program. The video is superbly edited, too.
-
But it's been used by both Brian Orser and Yuna Kim... I think the comparisons would too huge :/ Those aren't that recent, to me it feels like it's been ages. I do love Danse Macabre so much, and I think it will be a big hit - the concept is interesting, the music is amazing, it suits !fierce Yuzu, and it has great mass appeal.

Poll - When/How did you become a fan of Yuzu?

Before Yuzuru I was not into figure skating at all, I watched the Vancouver Olys casually and knew about big names like Yuna, Mao and Plushenko, and thought skating was impressive, but I didn't follow the sport at all. I didn't know Yuzuru even existed. Then came the Sochi Olympics. I didn't even care to watch, but my friend (who is a casual skating fan) showed me Yuzuru's Parisienne Walkways short program. I could feel myself sinking into the big black hole called "the fandom", but I resisted, I told myself, "eh he's cute, but so?! he's just cute!" :stick: :stick: :stick: Well but I still stuck around to watch the free program. And some more other Yuzuru videos. I was just struck by how humble, gracious, wise and adorable he was. I was endeared to him as a person. I just grew a great respect for his philosophy and thinking. After a while he was no longer "just cute". :sadPooh: Then I knew, I would be stuck in this fandom forever, but I was, and am, and will always be, happy to stay. :rofl2: I then educated myself about skating and read a lot about the sport. (I kinda got this the other way round huh?) It was from that point I started admiring Yuzuru as a skater. My eyes were opened to the beauty of figure skating. I liked Yuzuru even more from this point onwards because I was able to truly appreciate what he was doing out there. :goe: Now, my terrible friend who first showed me Yuzuru's short program doesn't even remember that once upon a time, I was not even a casual fan of figure skating... She totally forgot that she was the one who initially "corrupted" me. :xD:- 249 replies

Yes, of all costumes Requiem probably was the most difficult to make. The only sad thing about this costume is that for me it is always associated with Boston, although it was the best perfomance. Same, I wish Requiem was given a chance to remain positive in people's memories. I know a lot of people stay away from that period altogether  too much devastation and sadness  Actually, I was really sad after Boston, but seeing Yuzuru skate to Requiem in the exhibition really moved me. I was comforted, it didn't matter so much that he didn't win after all, because that moment reminded me that Yuzuru was, is and always will be the best figure skater in the world and of all time. I think that was his best skate of Requiem. :crybaby: Even though I didn't like the costume, for me it represents some good memories now.

I voted Seimei (the best free program of allllll time) and Chopin Ballade (the pinnacle of figure skating, all in one program). I also voted for Hana ni nare for sentimental reasons. :) I wanted to vote Notte Stellata too though. ; u ;

为什么那么多人拜血条君?血条君是谁? yuzu不是容易受伤嘛,就希望他能健健康康的,像游戏里那样血条很长~ :yay: 原来如此。哈哈哈

Oh I love the piece you linked! It's so epic and grand, very Yuzuru. :crybaby:
