  1. My feeling is that he's been fine for a while, but they wanted to do a combination of 1. keeping his rivals in the dark/complacent, while also 2. telling the judges that he's completely healed and ready to defend his title, so it was all according to an extremely well-thought out and well-timed plan.
  2. source Re. the media influx these last few days, I think it's all very smart and part of the strategy. There's a reason why skaters don't like to disclose injuries -- even if they have them -- until after the Olympics. Yuna didn't disclose her left foot fracture until after the Olympics. Because you don't want the judges to have lower expectations of you or to think "he's skating injured" since you can imagine how this biases them. So this is absolutely the right time to start talking. Especially if he is healthy (and even if he isn't, fingers crossed that's not the caseother skaters not Yuzu, who is 100% healthy ) , you want the general sentiment to be "This guy is skating at 100%" when he's on the ice. There's nothing more his rivals can do to better ready themselves anyway, with the event in exactly a week, and all of the men are going to be going for the best that they've got at this point.
  3. I finally took a group photo of all the swans I'm bringing to PC. If you're going to be there, please come take one (or a handful) ... I have too many ... ahh I'm so emotional, can't believe it's happening
  4. Well we never saw a consistent 4Lz yet so likely he just needs more times. With all jumps there are both mental AND physical issues to them. Just because you've successfully landed it once (or ten times) doesn't mean that now all your issues are mental rather than physical. Sometimes you can do it well in practice but the success rate is not so high, so you can't hit it in competition. Is that mental or physical? It's probably both. And that's okay, because you just practice it more so that the success rate is 99% or 100% in practice and you can hit it in competition 80% of the time. Also Yuzu usually takes a season or more to stabilize a jump. Lately there's been an influx of skaters who add 2-3(!) extra quads every season and so we're "spoiled" a bit and think that's the norm. But common sense tells us that's nowhere near the norm and let's not even get into underrotations, prerotations, lack of steps (where required), bad technique, etc. I think we haven't seen the last of the 4Lz, even we won't see it next week
  5. Well it's a week before the big event and most of his rivals are already preparing to skate in two days. I think it's ok now ^-^

  7. Honestly, I think Javi no longer being world champion has taken a hit on his scores. He skated clean or near-clean in his SP this season a couple times but he never got near his PB even though his layout is the same. But yes, if he skates clean and Nathan skates clean with his 5(??) quads I think Javi will still come out on top. But Javi's stamina has not been good in the FS lately and it's only been a few weeks since Euros, not sure if he's improved drastically since then.
  8. Sounds like the most likely scenario...that he doesn't want to risk another injury. The period of time right after recovering from a serious injury is the most likely time to sustain another one. Anyway, I'm glad he's focusing what's REALLY important instead of thinking it's his duty to skate for Team Japan even if it'll potentially harm his chances in the individuals...because actually that's the last thing all of Japan and his fans want from him!
  9. Eh, I don't think we can trust his team or him to be very direct or honest about his condition either
  10. can't wait i've been practicing spirals on my left leg in preparation haha. otherwise i never do spirals, they're scary
  11. night...if you send it tmrw then i should be able to get it
  12. ow, that sounds painful so i think i mentioned this before but my coach and had a bit of a communication hiccup so he keeps telling me that for spin entries it feels like "someone is pulling your arm back." I do it but it feels awkward and i don't center it very often. and he keeps telling me to pull it back while i'm like "i'm pulling it back as much as i can!" so lately i've been doing my spins from a standstill/push for a while and finally got the hang of how to do it, and one of my mental breakthroughs was realizing that good centered spin entries feel like my left shoulder is being stretched as if someone was pulling it back...to which I was like "wait that sounds familiar.......ohhhhhh." apparently i had been keeping my arm back super far behind me but my shoulders were not pulled back - no wonder it felt uncomfortable and twisted. sometimes my coach tells me to "turn out your foot" and i turn out my foot but NOT my hips lol. i remember once he told me he never saw someone turn out their foot so much without their hips turning out at all
  13. of course but i leave next tuesday i can go to the disney store and buy you one, if you want
  14. yeah i tripped over my toe pick falling forwards hurts more than falling backwards on your butt
  15. I think a likely scenario is that he's not 100% healed (ligament damage is so difficult to heal I heard), and he's willing to give it his all in the individuals because there's only one shot, but he's not doing anything to risk any further injuries. Yuzu has skated well with injuries before. Especially if they're almost healed. He would be in a better position than oh, let's see, 2012 Worlds, 2013 Worlds, 2015 (basically all season), 2016 latter half of the season. Yes he wouldn't have competition experience. But just because he's not at 100% doesn't mean he can't still do well. And hey, who knows how the other guys will do too. Other than Javi, none of the other top contenders have Olympics experience, I think.
