Who are the 5.64% outliers? I'll... err.... look very menacingly at them!
-
Yeah, he genuinely likes Yuzu, and as @fireovertheice said, he comes off as a bit of a FS nerd (his knowledge of it can be quite deep and obscure, as I've noticed in the podcasts) but mentioning Yuzu's name in tweets does get him attention and he knows it and he works off it. So he comes up with various little facts related to Yuzu or relates certain tweets to Yuzu (like the Rika Kihira's 3A tweet being related to Mura's and Yuzu's 3As). All in all, while some of his tweets are useful and nice to know (like statistics tables), others just make me a little. Maybe it's just my cynical self.

I think Max really likes the likes and retweets he gets, to be honest. Not that he doesn't like Yuzu, he does!, but, you know.... hits.
-
Plus, wasn't Yuzu advised post his win at Sochi to limit his endorsements to only a few? Yuzuru Hanyu is a brand too and you don't want to dilute it by making it less of an exclusive thing.

Speaking of Disney or UA sponsorship, well, why sponsor someone when they are already bringing in free publicity that results in profit (all the Poohs being bought, all the UA fans might acquire)? It's a waste of their resources to pay for free publicity. Look at Javi, he only began to use Reebok when they sponsored him. Nathan dropped Adidas and changed to Nike (or was it the other way around?) when they sponsored him. Yuzu is already wearing UA, so why would UA sponsor him?

I guess I'd pay 50€ for a class with Tracy. I'd spend the whole time falling on my bum, though.
-
And he is probably perfectly tired from the trip. It is a looong trip. Also, remember, NHK has 2 practice sessions on Thursday unlike COR.

BTW, a little off topic but related to why Tracy couldn't accompany Yuzu at NHK. She's giving a masterclass in Madrid on the 12th (Sunday). Edit: Source

This is a lot of mileage from a video of Yuzu heating up some hot chocolate in a microwave.
-
Thank you! You're very useful. And very scary. Edit: When I first came across the gif of that moment I thought it was David too but subsequent discussions that came up about it mentioned Ghislain too, so I became convinced it was him and not David after all.
-
Kaeryth! You know stuff. Do you know of any video of that moment so we can establish once and for all if it was D. Wilson or B. Ghishlain (sp?) who comforted Yuzu post 2013 Worlds SP?
-
I've been watching too much Discovery Channel.
-
Yeah, pretty much. From what I read about that time, this was the Worlds that would decide Olympic spots so there was a lot of pressure on him as the newly minted National champion. And he effed up the SP and placed 9th. (he was, of course, injured). He did rally up to 4th overall and with Takahashi close behind, they did secure the 3 spots.
-
Plus, Yuzu is in a better situation than Javi was at CoC. I don't know how many here listened to Tracy's commentary on Javi's programs but she said that Javi didn't really interact much with Lee Barkell (Gabby's coach) at TCC so there wasn't an opportunity to build a rapport, and so he might have not known how to read the signs of some issue or problem, even though at this level skaters shouldn't really need a coach 24/7. Yuzu does have that relationship with Ghislain so he's already better off from the start.
-
Ghislain's fine. Jump coach to help him with the darn quads. The guy who comforted Yuzu when he placed 9th at 2013 World's SP. I'm cool with Ghislain.
-
Deleted Edit: Please ignore my question, I realize it's part of the off topic forum politics rule, sorry!
-
This is so accurate. I guess people can see whether he looks relaxed or is smiling while he is giving his usual spiel.

Everytime I hear Shenshu I perk up and must do a double take to remember if there was Hanyu before it. I should not have this going in the background, I have my game open I should go play it!
-
There was an interview with Alexander Lakernik, circa 2015, where he expressed concern over ISU judges being overly forgiving of quads in ways they weren't towards triples, to the point they'd over-reward them (I assume the ignoring of SP solo jump steps enters into this). This was in the context of ultra-C elements being introduced more and more into skating. I guess they haven't particularly worked towards changing the way judges deal with quads.

@fireovertheice I don't want to abuse your goodwill in doing all of this, but would it be feasible to analyse the FS of someone who doesn't do quads (or attempts only 1) for a comparative view? I'd suggest Jason Brown, for example. I think that might be interesting. No worries if that's more than what you feel like doing right now. I know this is not easy work!

Thank you so much for your work. The updated table clarifies a lot more. The differences can be quite big! I'm really curious about adding Javi and Patrick to the mix, when you're done checking them as you mentioned you were doing. If I remember your earlier counting of their programs, they'd be more likely to be similar to Yuzu in terms of % and time skating in 1 foot?

But wouldn't the TES decide who'd win in the end if both programs were part of the current system and rules and had the same PCS? Wouldn't the difficulty already be rewarded in BV/TES? We can't conflate the current rules with what they are proposing. If they go forward with the artistic and athletic program, they'd be graded independently of each other. They'd have different measures and grading, and maybe Yuzuru A and Yuzuru B could score well enough in their respective program.

Mikhail Kolyada interview translated at FS Universe: 'When I need a kick I notify my coach Chebotareva myself' Anatoly Samokhvalov's interview with Michael Kolyada for rsport.ria.ru https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/samokhvalovs-interview-with-kolyada-when-i-need-a-kick-i-notify-chebotareva.102232/

Obviously most(?) of us here would probably say yes, PCS should be the same and not depend on TES. This is why so many people think Misha or Jason Brown are underscored in PCS comparatively, even when clean. But I don't think ISU judges would. Not until they do go forward with their 'artistic program'. Edit: In fact, maybe a less intense program could actually increase transitions. You'd need less time to set up quads, more time for one-foot skating and transitions. So maybe it would actually balance out to the difficulty in the end?
