Yuzuru will arrive in Korea with Javi and Tracy on the 11th.

NBC article with Orser about Yuzu http://www.nbcolympics.com/news/coach-brian-orser-updates-gold-medalist-yuzuru-hanyus-injury-recovery?amp&__twitter_impression=true
-
The news with Brian's words went through the exact same pattern as that time Javi said Yuzu was recovered. First elation, then overthinking, dissecting and finally despair about it instead of celebration of good news. We never learn not to look a gift horse in the mouth...

I do need to complete my tables with jump statistics...
-
Nope, not me. I'm curious to see that list though!
-
It's not only a question of recovering a jump but recovering and putting it into a layout and consistently do well enough in that layout.
-
Bringing this from the General Yuzu chat too, some possibilities without 4Lz. H&L layout 4Lo 4S 3F // 4S3T 4T 3A2T 3A1Lo3S 3Lz - BV: 103.43 Pros: Familiarity. Already went clean or clean-ish with 4-quads 3 times last season. Cons: Jump combos may not fit music as well. Heavier re-shift in layout and will need to re-shift again if he brings 4Lz for Worlds. H&L layout alternatives (same BV as above) 4Lo 4S 3F // 4S3T 4T1Lo3S 3A2T 3A 3Lz 4Lo 4S 3F // 4S3T 3A1Lo3S 4T(2T) 3A(2T) 3Lz Note: On the last one, he can attach the 2T to either the 4T or the 3A. 4-quad Seimei 2.0 layout: 3Lz 4Lo 3F // 4S3T 4T1Lo3S 4T 3A2T 3A - BV: 103.66 Pros: Very, VERY, slight BV increase over H&L. More familiarity on this layout this season, only replacing a 4Lz for a 3Lz Cons: Starting with a 3Lz may not give him the concentration required for the rest of the program. Pop may ensue? 5-quad Summer layout 4Lo 4S 3F // 4S3T 4T1Lo3S 4T(2T) 3A(2T) 3Lz - BV: 105.41 Pros: Higher BV than a 4-quad layout and he has already trained this layout at some point. Cons: ONE, only ONE 3A. Plus more stamina (and ankle) intensive.

Not doing the 4Lz does not mean he has mental or physical blocks with the jump. Yuzu went back on the ice for full training on January 8 or thereabout according to the JSF/news. He hadn't skated since November. He had 3 types of quads and a 4-5 quad layout to re-train after 2 months off. 4Lz is a new and very moody jump. Even at CoR condition he was only nailing 1 per competition practice session. He very likely simply doesn't have the time to get 4Lz back with any kind of consistency with all the other stuff he's had to do and re-train.
-
Ah, so the avoiding the 4Lz is the newspaper speculation more than a direct quote? In before 4Lz becomes the new Sochi 4S.
-
Can't it just be that a 4Lz is a jump that doubles the pressure on his right ankle (both pick and landing) and was already a moody bastard even before the injury, so it's probably best to avoid it for this one particular competition, especially with only a month of training?
-
Apparently the article says both that all jumps are good except 4Lz AND that he'll avoid 4Lz at the Olympics. To clarify, from the same translator:
-
Javi is really feeling those quads:
-
There were a lot of movie trailers and product ads during the Superbowl (it seems a lot of them were Tide ads!? ) but Nathan's specific one was only broadcast during This Is Us, the post-game tv show. There were a couple of general Olympics ads where Nathan was featured alongside other skaters, though, including the one where Yuzuru also appears, but his single ad was not displayed during the Superbowl itself.
-
He will not be underscored if he skates clean, with or without 4Lz. He didn't use a 4Lo in his SP at ACI and got a World Record. It's okay. Worry about him skating clean and leave the underscoring worries for another time.
-
Really people, all jumps are GOOD except 4Lz. Don't be anxious, be excited that his jumps are GOOD! This is GOOD news!
-
To confirm @daisyjune's translation earlier, IK reports the same. It seems Brian didn't exactly say he's not doing the 4Lz, only it's not in good shape? Is Yuzu avoiding the 4Lz at practice entirely or just not having good success with it?
-
Honestly? I kind of hope he does get mileage on the 4Lz for Worlds because next season falls or mistakes might weigh more negatively due to the GOE scale changes, and any experience in competition with it would be good before then.
-
I mean, I'm sure this wasn't an easy decision for Yuzu to make considering all he's hoped and planned for at the beginning of the season, but he did damage his ankle pretty darn badly and his recovery did take longer than anticipated. No matter his stubborn spirit, there's just some things you can't fight your body on and compromise is needed between the difficulty you want and the difficulty your body might be able to take. Despite all his talk about going above his limit, his body still experiences some. Though @daisyjune's translation above does say Orser mentioned that all jumps expect 4Lz are going well so maybe it's mostly a question of 4Lz not going to be at a good level in time. As I said on twitter, I still fully expect him to try it at Worlds.
-
Exactly, plus it might allow him to actually maintain that exit SE, which he hardly does with 3A2T, though he might still not have the time for it if he has to go do a 3Lz after. He can do a 3A from a standstill but 3Lz is a different beast for him.
-
I edited my post to add a H&L alternative too but this one is also good. But in that case, I'd actually recommend him to do 4T2T and leave the 3A solo. His 3A2T didn't gain him a lot of GOE at Worlds so maybe a 4T2T and solo 3A might be better.
-
It does make sense, though, regarding timing, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's true, but it's always best to wait for more confirmation.
