  1. The audience knew what they saw. Prolonged and enthusiastic ovation for Deniss. Boy brought the performance. However, without a quad it's hard to reach the very top. Enjoyed his performance. Sorry, Roman. Rough to watch... I would like, just once, a major international competition where he puts down 2 strong programs... the quality is there, he just needs to show it.
  2. Yes! Mai wins the sp. She was tight on the solo flip, but otherwise lovely skate. I think she can do it much better because she was off on her music timing here a bit. Loved that they still gave her over 72. Putting the combo back for bonus has helped... and really, best skating skills out there today. Levito is a close second. Like I said before, she's a Scherbakova wannabe in style... I thought she'd go into first, she's the next big US lady, but not this time. Gubanova had a lovely skate too, and Kurakova continues on her her happy and entertaining route.
  3. Fingers crossed for my Mai. She's the reason I'm paying attention these days.... and I love her sp this year, best she's ever had, imho.
  4. Ita. There is bread (plain, mass produced garbage), but then there is Bread!!
  5. That's cool! Great for Nobu. I hope he achieves his goals.
  6. Glad for the J pair! They are getting better all the time... now they have to continue doing that and then deliver at ISU Championships... inspire those skaters in Japan to try pairs ! And Rinka was great today... she was a replacement, and then wins! That's the way to take advantage of your opportunities!
  7. Is Rika actually healed yet? I was under the impression that she still isn't .... but if the doctors have given her the green light, then yup, you have to start somewhere. I hope she realizes that she does have lots of time. Younger skaters are coming up, but she's still top quality... and the Russians aren't here this year, who knows about next year...the field is sort of wide open in terms of favourites etc... I was surprised at the scoring today too... I thought Petrokina was lowballed and Starr was upgraded... and that's just a couple of examples... but at least they're all fairly close together. Edit: Brian looks a bit out of his comfort zone with those stuffies... how soon we forget...
  8. Isabeau seems To be a Scherbakova follower... from costuming to movement on the ice, except not as good at it. I appreciate she has detail in her skating, tries for complexity, but her jumps are tiny... and I wish she would straighten up sometimes. I see potential for her, though, she's trying to have the whole package... unlike her male compatriot. And then there's Kaori. You could hook up turbines to her and she'd produce energy she moves so quickly and powerfully across the ice. I rarely have doubts when she skates anymore. It's not delicate, classical, or whimsical, but that's not her... she has her style and she's so good at it. Glad judges appreciate it... at the moment. Love her hair.... that's a mature and confident lady on the ice.
  9. Usually when there is hype around a young skater, I check it out, hoping to see some rough diamonds or something... so we come to Ilia. Great, he does 4A and other quads, and thats hugely impressive... but i kept waiting for him to start skating... but no, i found nothing else that I liked. Nothing. His age has nothing to do with it. That program is a jumping exercise, with some extra tricks added to the jumps. Y'all can disagree with me, but if we contrast him with another youngster, Yuma.... Yuma can actually skate. He has flow and deep knees and edges...even his jumps seem to hover in the air, etc.. I was actually surprised at how much I disliked Ilia's skating. I deliberately avoided watching anything from this summer so I could look with fresh eyes, but... nope, I'm not on this train unless drastic changes occur. I hope I'm wrong.
  10. I wonder, Mai is now doing her Master's, right? Maybe she was too busy for a Challenger? I keep thinking up excuses because she's looked so strong in the last year or so since she got better... you'd think they'd send her out too... or maybe she's slipping further down the JSF favourite list... probably the latter.... I so wanted to see her because those programs look wonderful this year.
  11. I just watched Mao Shimada... and I'm impressed. Everything was really good and she has so much charm. And, that spiral.... how many years has it been since spirals were actually held or given such importance ? Since before Daniil thrust his choreo upon the world and we met 2 second spirals that never met a musical highlight. I know many do skaters include them, but not like during the years of Kwan and Cohen. It's nice to see it used effectively. Hope she continues to develop at her own pace with injuries kept at bay. Spins, charm, musicality... and I think her jump technique is good... you hate to be enthusiastic about a junior who then has troubles later because of technique (Marin Honda comes to mind), but if she continues like this, she's star material, for sure.
  12. GLad that others had issues with not finding his channel when just searching with his name...... i dont subscribe to YT channels, so i have to bookmark... OK, requests for Yuzu for his channel... if he needs inspiration from one such as I: Pooh reunion, or visit to TCC,...and if he gets Pooh, then he should take Pooh on a quick sightseeing tour of Toronto, since he's never been, and rarely will again ( like the Travelocity roaming gnome, it'll be roaming Pooh)... and expand it to Pooh in Japan... he's been coaching yuzu for years, let him expand his horizons... just kidding... not kidding... Training in his UA.. show us combos he never competed.... bloopers, progress on 4A... New content, choreo processes... Put Hanyuconomy to the test... I hope he has fun with it. He's creative, so I hope he shows that somehow... and i don't mean anything private, just what he feels he can now share comfortably. However, all kidding aside, after becoming notoriously private as his fame grew, anything he now shares will be more than we ever expected. I have no expectations, just gratitude.
  13. Hope so. In order to find it I have to come here and use the link. If I just use hanyu yuzuru I never find him.... everyone BUT him. ( obviously bookmarks work, but not just searching for him)
  14. My lazy jobs for today: picking aphids off my petunia plant with tweezers, and watching the number of subscribers to Yuzu's channel, lol. It went from 187k to 188k during the time I scrolled down through a few of the comments. Far more interesting on a hot and humid Sunday than plucking aphids!
  15. Wish her the best and hope she is happy with her decision, long term ( it just seems so abrupt). I hope Trennt finds a new partner, i always felt he was the stronger partner. They did well together despite being close in height, but height really makes a difference in pairs, the majority of the time.
  16. It's about time. Now he can directly control " Yuzuru Hanyu." Fans will love this. Good move. I think he should post about his reunion with Pooh, old man Pooh.
  17. The lack of insight would normally surprise me, but from them? No. No surprise. They just don't get it.
  18. Lol. I was right!. I always thought the original Pooh was in Toronto and he was. With how swiftly they got back to Japan, and not knowing how long the pandemic would last ( remember when they said they'd have to close the border for 2 weeks? Lol. Little did they know) theyve probably left a lot of stuff in Toronto. If you live somewhere for 8 years, you accumulate stuff, and so Pooh was left. At least Pooh is in his native Canada, and not some unknown place... 2nd best, other than being with his partner! And he'll probably go to TCC, and formally say goodbye and look at his name on the wall That would be his typical behavior, being respectful as he is.
  19. I've been away from the board a few days, and I see there are some interviews etc., that I haven't had time to read.... but does anyone get any impression hat he's not totally, absolutely, done competing? I mean, he's resolute now in becoming professional, but his insistence on not retiring and only improving makes me wonder a tiny bit if in his mind there's a tiny Crack in that now closed door. Makes me wonder if, after a time of mental and physical healing (I'm not sure that ankle has ever really healed), and after seeing what the amateur skating field looks like (and how the judging and scoring is going, big factor there), he might try his luck again. Obviously, he's done it all and he's looking forward to his future, but some great athletes exit and return, across many sports, so I was just pondering out loud.
  20. That would be awesome, and I hope he does one day. It's part of his history, being there, and to do it so casually would just be right. And it would add to his ' legend' even if that was the furthest thing from his mind. Like Batman dropping for a quick check on his bat cave...
  21. Yes! For me, for years, it was waking up in the middle of the night, all bundled in blankets, to sit in front of my laptop during the Christmas season to watch our Chinese friend stream, with words running through the sometimes lagging and buffering stream...with no idea what was being said other than knowing we all shared a love of skating, and esp Yuzu. It was this amazing 3am experience only shared by devotees.... now I "might" continue because it's habit and I do love Mai, Kaori and Rika...but I might just sleep through the night instead...
  22. Now that the dreaded day has arrived, and everyone survived (albeit with some hurt in their hearts), future possibilities raise their heads. Could we ever see Japan Open participation? It was never in the cards before, but maybe one day he might wish to exercise those competitive juices.... even with JSF involvement. You never know. Desire can conquer hurdles. Could we see some specialist commentary on events or participants at future competitions, with no fear of reprisals from grumbling judges? (Wilst remaining ever so polite, naturally). I can see him doing this after a few years. Maybe not right away. Chit chat between him and Nobu would be worth the price. Perhaps a few instructional seminars for kids around the world? His platform is so unique, special, and far reaching that spreading his influence would only add to his legacy. HOPEFULLY, participation in tours outside of Japan for a change.... I'm sure he'll do his own tour or show, but it would be nice if our international superstar would spread his wings to include the rest of the world as well. P.s. I'm glad I decided against SCI tickets too. I had this feeling.... and, our reliance on Japanese fanyus now increases as he will most likely focus everything there.
  23. Congrats to Yuzu on an amazing career. His will often pushed him further than his body allowed. I feel lucky to have been a fan from his first senior year, following along on his roller coaster. I prefer watching him skate competitively, but nothing lasts forever. His ankles are just too precious for life after skating to continue to beat them up... and really, what hasn't he done? He did it all. Enjoy life now, yuzu. All of it.
  24. Good night, y'all. It's my bed time, so when I wake up there will probably be a gazillion pages about his announcement. While I sleep, I hope the rest of you don't suffer too much in the waiting. I just hope, whatever he announces, he is happy and content with what he's decided.
