  1. I get the feeling that if he has a bigger audience he could do what the soccer teams do when they win... do a clap and the audience follows, then speed it up or slow it down and the audience follows... they'd hang on every move he made. I remember Federer did that playing in Switzerland and everyone followed too. Everyone was so focused on the moves he made. Edit: about Yuzu competing next season at ACI. I'd love him to do that, but I think he only competed in those because they were virtually next door to Toronto(the ones in Oakville I mean) or close by in Montreal... if he's not in Toronto who knows where he'll go for Challengers, if he chooses to do them.
  2. https://www.popsci.com/science/quadruple-axel-figure-skating-impossible/ Did anyone see that article? Maybe it's already been put on here. It talks about the 4A and mentions Yuzu and his attempt at the quad. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  3. I wouldn't worry over much about the naysayers saying Yuzu got his gold medals because other failed... that's not Yuzu's fault....and, um, that's how a lot of gold medallists get their golds, isn't it? If you don't skate perfectly, then it's the least mistake filled program that wins... and that is true in any sport. Make a mistake, you lose. If others make bigger mistakes, they lose.
  4. My answer, if I was one of those people he was asking the question of, would be that, yes, he did become something for me: he became (again) a symbol of courage, and fortitude and perseverance.
  5. I noticed right away that he didn't get much applause from the J group. Only Kaori stood, her coaches didn't and neither did Wakaba. I don't know the big cheeses in the JSF enough to identify them, but they certainly weren't overly supportive. He certainly deserved a standing O as a show of support from his compatriots, even if just in recognition of what he has done, even if that particular performance wasn't his dream performance. It certainly makes you wonder how much jealousy some might feel. Or resentment of his universal appeal and the attention he gets. It's a real emotion that sometimes can't be helped.
  6. Yuzu. What guts. He didn't play it safe, didn't pop it into a single or double or whatever you'd pop a 4a into... he went for the biggest jump of them all, on the biggest world stage, knowing all the things that could happen if he fell. He has said before he's weak, but he's so much the opposite. So many times I've heard about skater x (like Plushenko/Yagudin/Chan) who could do this (insert difficult quad here) in practice, but you never saw it in competition. They were never brave enough to throw it into a major competition and played it (relatively) safe because they wanted the win. Yuzu could have taken that route and, judging by last night, he would've been on the podium too (but obviously not gold, that was preordained) but the 4A was the 1 childhood goal he hadn't achieved. He's so close to it, that was the best attempt yet. Selfishly, I want him to keep trying it because I want him to get that last goal for himself. After the competition he's obviously drained and emotionally exhausted, but with time and reflection I wonder what his inner self will tell him about that 4A. If he truly feels (and not just heat of the moment) he has no more to give to it, then that's fine. He has put his body and mind through so much and i am ever so grateful for being able to witness his career.
  7. Ice is slippery, or can have ruts and holes... and the greatest can get caught in them on the biggest stage. Snow is no different. I just watched Mikaela Schiffren, the GOAT, or close to GOAT in alpine skiing, ski off course in her second event. It's a total shock, disaster of epic proportions in the race. Thses things happen at the Olympics, even to the legends.
  8. Disappointed for Yuzu. I guess his prep has been too good for the Fates. Maybe for some inexplicable reason the universe has decreed he needs adversity in big competitions. Whatever the case, the rest of the skate was sublime. Now his back is against the wall, so hopefully the best will be brought out for the free, I want his Olympic free to bring him satisfaction, as much as Rondo did not. I decided against recording the competition... maybe I knew somehow things would not go as planned. Go yuzu!
  9. Smart. Stay home until the last minute. Its not like they're allowed to experience much anyway or have a real "Olympic" experience. Parachute in, razzle dazzle them , then get the heck out!!
  10. Im cynical when it comes to the Games and politics, I'm sure some positives will be negatives...
  11. To cope with competition nerves: I eat. Bad things (that taste very good, but are bad for my waistline)....chocolate is usually my go to option. As much as I need, at any time. Other comfort foods I have on hand for " on demand" moments.
  12. Oh, absolutely right. He knows what he's doing. He's got himself positioned to be " looking good " no matter what happens. Putting that little glimpse of a chat out there increases his cachet. The release of that info was carefully calculated. But if any advice he's given helps yuzu land it, fine with me.... Even if he tries to take all the credit, he's not the one jumping.
  13. All is fun and games when talking to the media!! Who knows what goes on behind arena doors, in truth.
  14. I think it's great. I think everyone (ok, not everyone, haha) wants to see the 4A happen... and anyone who can help, do it
  15. If that's true, that's cool, if it was about the 4A (big assumption on my part). Professor technical might be able to analyze the jump pretty well... and might really want to.
  16. Having a clean Rondo as a birthday present would be special indeed. I really hope he participates in the team sp, for so many reasons, and as a bday present just adds to the list.
  17. I read a few days ago that Bulgarian seer Baba Vanga predicted that 2022 would have tsunamis/earthquakes again in the East... I didn't actually think she'd be correct... hope all are ok.
  18. I don't see that james/Radford are that great together right now, either. It was always going to be difficult. Canada has no really promising pairs right now that jump out at you.
  19. I guess SC decided that Vanessa/Eric had more potential for results this season. Evelyn and Trennt have never done well internationally, either performance wise or with judging. They've skated quite well at Nationals over the years, but then once they leave domestic competition, they seem to falter and/or get buried by the judges. At least, that's what i've observed.
  20. That situation is very strange. Something very odd must be going on, and I can only hope all is truly well there.
  21. He says in order to win Olys he has to land 4A (and the rest, obviously)... I remember saying that exact same thing last year. With clean skates by Nathan, with all the candies he gets for what he does, yuzu has to set himself apart with jumps because the other parts of his skating no longer give him the advantage. Now he's vocalizing what he's probably known all along but didn't want to say in public, and because it's now possible he could do it, he's facing the challenge... and basically telling the judges he should win if he lands it, lol!! Love the moxie. Remarkable pressure he puts on himself, but also strategic. Never underestimate Mr. Hanyu.
  22. Yuzu felt he stagnated around age 24 -25... so after Olympics...the plushenko/weir tribute years, and first time training without javi. Yup, sounds about right. Post Olympic seasons can be hard, according to athletes. He seemed lost around then, remember Brian said he even said he missed javi? If it's taken the pandemic years for him to feel like he's found the solution, then I'm glad things have worked out. He's not alone. People around the world have re-evaluated their lives, changed things, and adapted in so many ways the last 2 years. Shoma seemed lost after the Olympics too for a few years, even going to train with eteri for a short bit. Now he seems back too. People and situations need changing sometimes.
  23. I think this is the same Pooh as last year at World's, which was also bigger and fluffier. I could be wrong, though. I think the one we usually see is either gone to live in freedom in the forest, or maybe back in Toronto staying by himself.... which is ok, since Pooh is Canadian anyway.
  24. Looking at those costumes today I swear his costume designer (Ito?) used the leftover fabric of his pink/blue free skate costume on Mai's 2021 fairy forest costume.
  25. He has to start trying it in competition. He's talked about this for so long, so now that he is staying on his feet despite being short on rotation, why not attempt it? If it looks pretty close when he tries it, then it gets people talking about it... as it has already done. Trying the goliath of all jumps, and coming half decently close, will certainly make people sit up and pay attention and take away the narrative that he is not as good at the difficult quads as certain others, especially as some others have difficulty with the triple A. Fortune favours the bold.
