The caveat is that whilst Yuzu has stated that the days of competition may be in the past for him, he has changed the definition of professional skater and diverged from the traditional format ice show idea altogether. Yuzu is researching and designing training methods which enable him to perform in the way that he feels is best. The results are self evident as seen in his Ice Stories, where his supreme physical condition in order to showcase his skating, his creations and explore this entirely new concept of performance art with his invention in the unique genre of Ice Story. Honestly, Yuzu is a creator of new worlds with the merging of the skating programmes and video sequences and story telling with intricate costuming, set design, lighting and other special effects which immerses in the audience in a deep multi sensorial experience is utterly ground breaking. Like many other people, I was close to devastated when Yuzu announced the official end of his competitive career, but he has more than delivered with what he has brought to the ice as he began carving his own path as a professional. I am delighted to follow this journey with Yuzu still avidly following the Ice Stories and his Notte Stellata shows. Of course it is a pity that the world will not see Yuzu in competions anymore, but the years between Pyeongchang Olympics and Beijing were filled with negative experiences and nobody wants Yuzu to have to endure suffering at the hands of people who govern his sport. Yuzu has his sights set on more beautiful horizons and if he wants to, he will be presenting even greater works to enchant fortunate audiences for years to come. I hope that Yuzu will continue to evolve in the way that he chooses and include us fans as he moves forward. Personally, I am really looking forward to seeing everything that he wants to show us and just hope for his ongoing happiness and health. There definitely was some odd Yuzu erasure at these Olympics, especially on the American media. Maybe I missed it but neither Johnny or Tara brought up Yuzu's attempt nor the fact that he's a major influence on Japanese skaters today (with their superior skating skills). I don't think I heard his name from them once. I'm so happy for Mikhail and Shun being Fanyus and getting on the podium! I hope Yuzu did send them something private but wouldn't be surprised if Yuzu is avoiding the Olympics to not bring up any sad memories of '22.

Just to add, it's particularly intriguing and interesting to see Countries which don't have nay snow and ice participating in the games. It goes to show that sports are for everyone and the Olympic Games really embodies the ideal of coming together throught the community of sports. Sorry to add my tiny contribution so late on. In fact the event and the past few days have been a bit of a whirlwind. We have all seen the results, so that discussion is already old news. Many congratulations to Mischa BBC commentator Robin Cousins, himself an Olys champion, had some diplomatic words and advice for the skaters. He really emphasised that each skater could only control their own skate and they should focus on everything that they had practised and do their best "do their day job' and not be distracted chasing someone else. He was completely correct and as a past Olympian and champion he should know. Mikhail had a wonderful skate and deserved to well, perhaps because he perhaps initially thought that he was not in medal contention and so was able to set aside distraction and skate in away that he could be and indeed became very proud of. Although he did not explicitly say so, he remarked that whilst some of the eye catching moves during the choreo sequence were permitted they did not score as individual elements and that skaters should still consider the artistry, flow and story of their programme performance not just jumps and crowd pleasing moves. He also made several lovely references to Yuzu as both fantastic quads and artistry and that he is a major influence in the modern era. He was also very sensitive about the emotional pressures for Maxim Naurumov having lost his parents and the Ukrainian athletes having to compete and during the Free having to skate after the AIN Russian skater. Robin also mentioned the late Denis Ten and his legacy for Qazaqhstan skating with Shaidarov following in his skating. Robin also complimented Yuma's and Shun's team event performances, he said during the individual FS how much he loves the Firebird programme. He also emphasised how fabulous Yuma is as a complete skater and he did mention that although Ilia has huge scores from the high base value of his jumps he would do well to study Yuma's non jumping elements and reflect on that. Personally, I had some sympathy for Ilia and also the other skaters who delivered performances that were less than their potential best. It was awful to see anybody crumple and essentially be humiliated in such a manner on a high publicity stage. However, he would have garnered a lot more empathy had he behaved in a less arrogant way during his competitive career, for example not pretending that Yuzu was jealous of the fact that he had landed the 4A in ISU comp and his phobic derogatory and discriminatory comments, one can only hope that he will reflect on his skating, personal conduct and the way that he courts the media and the hype that goes with it. In BJ several people remarked that Ice chan had betrayed Yuzu with the hole leading to the popped snake Sal, but perhaps she was telling Yuzu that his path lay elsewhere and her intervention was ultimately in a bigger arena. Ice chan redeemed herself on Friday the 13th and has most certainly confirmed the title of GOAT upon Yuzu. Wishing everyone a great day and enjoyment watching the Winter Olympics. It was also publicised that in order to be able attend University in Korea and have some of his fees/ skating costs offset by his Fed, he needed to be majority resident in Korea or something like that. In addition his win at the Asian games resulted in his government making him exempt from National Service

What a joy to see two true admirers of Yuzu on the Olympic podium! What with all the obvious attempts to make him forgotten. It’s strange how I didn’t hear a word about Yuzu’s 4A on German TV (but they also didn’t remember that it was Adam who brought back the backflip years ago and not IM). Interestingly the German livestream commentator assumed a problem with the ice in one corner during the last group’s FP - while four years ago they were all convinced it was the pressure that made Yuzu pop a jump in Roncap. And again: Four years ago Yuzu had the quality and was in a condition to win the Olympics and I’m convinced he is right now but I fully understand why he doesn’t compete directly (but somehow from afar). 😉

Maybe I'm being idealistic/a silly fan but I can honestly see him being in superb condition at 35. I mean he's genuinely a better skater now than he was at 19, 23, 27, etc. He has FAR better stamina especially. Not that I want him to deal with competitions again but... I don't think it'd be impossible if he wanted to

What an insane event, I couldn't believe my eyes... Happy for the medalists, especially Shun, his reaction was too sweet haha. I can't help but feel kind of crushed for Jun, I was really hoping he'd medal, he was sooo close too I hope he decides to continue after this season, I love his beautiful skating, he is my favorite of the current men by far Also, congrats to Donovan what a great experience for him!

Happy anniversary to Yuzu's Sochi Olympic gold medal! Yuzu's "I'm first? I'm the first? Oh, my god!" was so adorable!

After seeing the olympics today, I realized if Yuzuru really went for it, to compete at Milano, he would've even gotten Olympic Gold... which is very shocking. I realized Olympics really is unpredictable and that Yuzuru really is the GOAT, he can perform under Olympic pressure. It's both shocking and kind of sad that Yuzuru stayed out of this olympic cycle.. I would have loved seeing him compete one more time... but I guess that boat has now fully sailed, because Yuzuru will be 35 by the time next olympic comes...

I was rooting for Mikhail, I am so happy he won the gold! no one saw it coming the neutral skater had an amazing free skate too! but his components were so low, it felt unfair. Could be cause he is not too known to the judges and components has a lot to do with rapport...even if that isn't right imo. Yuma sadly couldn't have a clean skate but his performance on the short on teams was so so wonderful. I feel bad for ilia, even though I don't like his skating he was devastated and I could see he didn't even think losing was a possibility. He seemed completely out of it. I think they pressured him to do the free for teams because they were at risk of losing the gold to Japan and initially he was planning on only doing the sp, I wonder if that was a factor, not being able to lock in and rest as good as he should have and adding one extra demanding performance he hadn't accounted for. Japan really deserved the teams medal, it felt a bit cheap they pushed Ilia to do both skates to not lose it, but I digress. I was not able to watch Jun skate!!! I'm so bummed about that, I lost connection just as his skate was happening, I was so mad. I will have to watch video when they put it up, but I did hear he had a fall.

Finally watched the top 6 and so so happy for Mikhail! Such a victory for him. It was funny to hear Tara and Johnny remark during Mikhail's skate that this Olympics would give him good experience for the next one. If only they knew... Poor Yuma can't escape the silver curse but it was so sweet to see how happy he was Shun got bronze. Still feel for Ilia though, he looked devastated but kudos for hugging Mikhail and admitting he blew it. Wasn't great to hear him say in the kiss and cry that he would've won if he went to Beijing but I'll blame that on his post-skate adrenaline. Won't lie, I am sort of happy he didn't win just because of all the insane media hype around him and them acting like him getting gold was a sure thing. Ice is slippery and anything can happen.

Honestly, I made myself suffer by following this competitive season. I was furious after the Team Event, but this is just cosmic energy returning. They were up for karma at some point.
