After seeing what JK regularly carries around with him IN town, this bringing nothing must have put an actual panic into him. (Though I imagine their team brought along what they knew the guys would need.) In country: small purse, small wallet, credit cards, a little cash, kleenex, lip balm. Tiny pen and an index card. Out of the country: add a passport.

My uncle the former UN worker spent his whole career travelling to all the places you see in the news, plus to all the places you don't see in the news because it's too dangerous for reporters to go, and he likes to say that all you really need for travel is your passport and money. But for the rest of us who don't have diplomatic privileges and a well-staffed regional office ready to come to our aid day or night, it's prudent to bring some other neccessities. Or, like me, you'll find yourself trying in vain to buy a bra in the only shopping mall in Nairobi, only discover they're kept discreetly behind a counter in a tailor's shop that only stocks a cup size you outgrew in your early teens... never forget to pack an extra bra besides the one you're wearing. Just saying. Given the way those two relate, half the stuff in JK's bag, he probably carries on purpose for Jimin to use Me too! Also I wonder how Tae can advertise a casino in a country where the citizens are prohibited by law from gambling anywhere in the world, without suffering some kind of reputational fallout, but he'd know better than me. I agree. Although, if I do forget something, I try to turn it into an opportunity to pick up an unexpected souvenir. Like if I forgot a towel, buy a souvenir towel. Etc.

This. I'm the "just in case" type as well (although I don't carry around 5 different types of lip balms, but just because my finances don't allow it xD). I bought a lovely large bag at Don Quijote in Japan, and I carry it around with me everywhere I go: receipt folder (because I'm self employed), a small necessity bag with tweezers, lip balm, a small tube of face cream because winter kills me, hand cream of course, my medicated cream, even a small umbrella "just in case", wallet of course. It depends on the day sometimes as well. I've had too many occasions where I needed something only to find out that I hadn't brought it with me and I'm frugal, I don't want to have more than one thing of the same item.
