So, I checked Donohue's result from last year. They finished 9th, due to a really poor FD. The fact was they didn't deliver. Full stop. They didn't give away their medal. It wasn't theirs, yet, if he was only taking SD into account. There were 2 programs to deliver, they didn't deliver one of them. ??? What kind of logic is he using? Usual overconfident white boy, I see. Careful, it might bite you in the glutes again.

That "really poor FD" was a masterful FD with a very unfortunate fall in the last seconds that got them an entire element invalid and hence the drop in points.... And the Shibs were overscored for their lackluster performances in that comp but got through bc of reputation scoring and somehow made it on the podium without being in podium-position in either SD/FD :) So you can't really just "check scores" like that and compare.... Not that I like Zach's statement, he can be very unnecessary cocky... but they have improved tremendously in the last two years and esp this season shows it.

Plus, Madi is a genuine sweetheart, so if you want to like them, go from there :2thumbsup: They were on fire, super precise, so glad they were rewarded, third team to go over 80 :9:

And ofc, G&G :13877886::tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: Got that elusive SD WR that should've been theirs, redemption!  Tho judges lowered THAT rumba to lvl 3, really?

Oh, edit: Sasha and Vanya were amazing :tumblr_inline_mzx8zzarLt1r8msi5: Poor babies, that stupid deduction and that it had to happen to them here but nothing too drastic, literally 0,01. Also, I like P&P as well and am happy for them too, why do I like them all darnit.... the struggle lol

Really liked Stepanova and Bukin. Was a bit surprised with Madi/Zach's score but I'm liking them this season anyway, so I'm not too bothered (Besides, I don't really understand how ice dance is scored so my opinion is very uninformed anyway lol)

Glad for Anna/Luca to have scored so well. And of course, quite happy to have finally seen Gaby and Guillaume live.

All in all a pretty good competition, though the first groups did leave me a bit disinterested and mind wandering lol.

I stand corrected in my "really poor FD" comment. Changed it to "really poor FD score". I am sorry for that.

But still, they were 9th. Which basically means anyone who finished 3rd-8th could have taken the bronze over them. I admit I have no idea how scoring in ID works. I just know saying you "give your medal" when you finished 9th overall is not only cocky but ??? inducing. Plus it sounds absolutely like a sore loser making a mean-spirited comment.

I have nothing against her, of course. But I can't like a pair when I do not like one of the two people who make the pair.

I have the same problem with Chan's poorly thought comments.

Full disclosure, I have no favourite in ID. I might root for a team here and there, but since I have no idea how the scoring works, and none of the team currently competing represent my aesthetic, there's just nothing for me here. I watched it with a hope that someday, I might get an idea of how this event works.

So, if H/D podium, good for them. If they don't,

I get you and where you're coming from. :)

Ice dance can often feel like the most predictable event in skating but really you never know what's gonna happen. Just look at dressgate, or Kaitlinn Hawayek's fall from today for example. She said there was something on the ice that stopped her blade and that is an absolutely unfortunate thing that's out of a skaters control (not to mention dangerous etc). In Helsinki, there was actually a similar situation. If you look at their FD, Zach's blade seems to get caught on something and it just gives way from under him. It might've been entirely his fault, a loss of balance etc but combine that with the fact that Katya Bobrova picked up a hairpin from the ice before her skate just before that... :slinkaway: And that 9th place is a result of the whole invalid element being a huge error in points compared to more minor errors from their opponents. But what happened happened and they managed to get up and do better this season, so all the props for that.

As for not having any preferred team or one that appeals to your taste, there are reasons to watch regardless - quality of movement, edges, speed etc. You doon't have to know how they score it to appreciate the beauty (and actually not having faves can be a blessing bc you can focus on the skating  itself rather than worrying about a certain skaters placement :headdesk2:). There is way less two footed skating in dance compared to singles and the way I see it, in dance you can really focus on the unique medium for movement that the ice provides and is usually not that greatly utilised in singles and pairs due to the more standart athleticism focus on jumps etc. Not everyone manages to do it but for me there's an important difference between dancing with skates on the ice and ice dancing. (In that way, Zuzu is absolutely an ice dancer for me, he does the magic :tumblr_inline_mueoe3Yabh1qdlkyg:)

Anyway, there are many teams doing their own thing this year (after everyone tried to adopt P/C's style last season..) and I'm sure there will be a trend for diversifying even further in the next quad. And with the coming changes, even the SD will be more fun to watch (as they'll be able to pair the required rythm with ANY other style, no matter how different or crazy the combo )

Sorry for the ramble. And not to get too off-topic, forgot to mention the baby bulgarians who skated first, did a great job and got a PB!  Mind you, they've been skating since this summer and the girl hasn't done ice dance before. So them even making it to Euros and Worlds is amazing. Too bad that they won't get to show their FD, it's better than their SD... but the level of competition was pretty good today! <3

Just caught up watching the top 10.....

All I have to say is yay for SB to my babies Piper/Paul, Chris/Kana, and Anna/Luca <3

This is the first time in my life I feel blessed I had to work on a Saturday, as I missed that dumpster fire. I'll just enjoy the ID now. Sigh.

Wang/Liu FD is definitely one of my favorite this season. Very soothing and light-hearted :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:especially after that disaster of a men's event.
