Skating on the Planet

Recommended Posts

After remembering a rinkmate complaining about her freestyles being too soft (and she also just does singles up to Lz) I think I‘ll have to go up a few levels and get risport rf3/ royal plus/ edea chorus. I think I am going to look for used blades to match. Either coronations or professionals but I‘ll ask the shop if they would mount my skates to their boots first. Hopefully I can sell my skates for a good price...

Definitely recommend Royal over RF3. I tried both and the breakin period for RF3 was very long/painful :slinkaway:

Oh ok, I’ll note that! I wasn’t sure about rf3 anyway since they are not that stiff compared to the other options.

In terms of stiffness ratings, Royals are stiffer.

You might want to try both. The skate technician I work with didn't recommend I switch to Royals, because he said their heels are slightly higher than RF3's and standard Risport, and the boot opening is a bit lower, closer to ice dance boots. He also said it's better if you have narrower heels  (vs medium heels for normal risport). So I'd try both and see which feels better.

I personally found Risports easier for me to break in versus Edeas (those things hurt my arches and bunion area like crazy).

What edeas did you try?

I'm getting more and more confused lol

I guess the stiffness rating of the rf3 pro is a little more acceptable, at 60, so I'll see if I can try those on. I keep on remembering my rinkmate complaining about her freestyles being too soft which have the same stiffness rating as the rf3

The 5 stars version? Forgot what they're called. I use RF3, and do single jumps (no axel yet). It's weight related too, so you might need the royals.

Yes and I'd guess I weigh at least 10kg more than that rinkmate I'm talking about, too. I'll probably have to invest in stiffer boots

I've lost my flip :13877886:Well at least I'm still rotating but I keep on two footing, I just can't unwind my free leg on time :13877886: I hate regressing so muchhhhh

It happens. I think progress in skating is never ever monotonically increasing lol, so frustrating. But like Yuzu says, you are "raising your average" :P

Losing jumps happens sometimes. There are days where I can center every spin I do, and then next day I'm traveling all over the place as a menace to the public. Did you by any chance start lutzes or work on any other toe jumps? I had a brief period where learning a lutz created issues with my flip (as in I started Lipping), and recovering my flip made me lose my lutz edge (started flutzing). :13877886:

Aha yes. Sometimes when I have a few good centered spins, I stop practicing spins that day because then I can say I had a successful spin day, whereas I know if I keep going I'll start traveling at one point and get frustrated...and then i'll keep spinning out of frustration and go down that rabbit hole lol...sometimes stopping and resetting helps :P

No, I didn’t dare start working on Lutzes yet :13877886: I think it might be because I had to take a week off of jumping flips before I could stabilize them. I don’t feel comfortable jumping flips in public sessions...

It‘s just so weird to me bc I never lost jumps before. If I land them just once, even if only  barely, it only goes up from there, usually. But I guess the flip is a different beast

So today I went ice skating for the first time in 13 years! The last time I was on the ice was in 5th grade and I remember being barely able to leave the walls. When I started today's session I was gripping onto the wall like a madwoman but 2 hours later I was able to skate without touching the walls at all! (albeit I was extremely slow and a little wobbly- took me 4 minutes to circle around the rink's perimeter) I'm proud of myself and I had a ton of fun! I'm thinking of going again a week or two, then maybe starting a 'learn to skate' program and taking it from there.

I was so envious of the people whizzing by effortlessly on their skates! And then I imagined how amazing it would be to see Yuzu skate in front of my eyes :embSwan:

My big toes hurt really bad though, even though I was only on the ice for 2ish hours. Is that normal?

Yay! Yuzu is inspiring people all over the world to skate :tumblr_inline_mzx8zzarLt1r8msi5:Did you use rental boots? If so then it's probably a fit issue, sizing with skates is really important/difficult.

Every sort of foot pain I think is normal for people who don't skate often. When I'm with friends, I hear the most about feet pain, ankle pain, and hip pain within about an hour :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:
