Bless Patrick for choosing such wonderful songs and being the light in this sea of warhorses :tumblr_inline_mg16f5AQHM1qdlkyg: I'm so excited about both programs already.. Quiet pieces work so well for him and I love hearing the scratching of his blades on ice during footwork :smiley-love017:

Well, Hallelujah ... I call it a semi warhorse, but it really fits Patrick and I know it will be epic!!

I like Patrick's music choices, I think both of Dust in the Wind and Hallelujah suit his skating. It is also interesting that he decided to skate to two acoustic/folk rock pieces, which very rarely happens in figure skating.

I am curious which version of Hallelujah he would choose-I like the album version of the song a bit more as it is even more touching than the one which was recorded for the official video:smile:

This is what I was thinking too. I like acoustic and folk rock/pop type of music a lot and it is not often used in figure skating. Happy especially about his SP music. Same kind of a song like last season´s SP Blackbird.

Yes, both of his choices are similar to Dear Prudence and Blackbird by the Beatles, which are both acoustic/folk rock songs too.

I think it is not easy to skate to music like this. Apart from maybe Hallelujah, these songs are usually not overused in figure skating, and they often lack easily recognizable structure, or upbeat tempo.

Patrick is one of those gifted skaters who can skate to any kind of music out there and own it. Yuzu is one of those few ... I think Jason Brown can do it, too.

Thanks for reminding me of Dear Prudence, I had already forgotten it (oh dear!).

I was thinking that songs like Dust in the Wind suit Patrick well because there is the same kind of flow in the melody as he´s got in his skating. He is able to use his strengths like his edges there a lot. At first I thought is Hallelujah too similar, but there is a difference imo, stronger beat and not that much flow in the melody.

I like these choices a lot. All figure skating music does not have to be bombastic. I feel gentle music like these pieces and also H&L can fill even the biggest skating arenas.

I don't know about Patrick..he rarely skated to upbeat rock music (I think he only skated to Coldplay songs as exhibitions) so I am not sure if he owned heavier music. When he skated to pop-rock music it was always light or Michael Bublé type easy listening...which is okay because it suits his style. But I think he is very far away from Yuzuru. And I think that even Jason is more versatile than Patrick.

Dust in the Wind is faster and it's musically more monotonic than Hallelujah. And I agree that Patrick can use his edges a lot during the program. It will be a nice program, hopefully. He won't need to cut much from the music because it's a short song, a bit more than three minutes long.

I think if a skater can perform a program well, then any kind of music can fill even the biggest arenas.

I just found out that it is not Cohen´s original but Jeff Buckley´s version of Hallelujah. So it is a very different kind of Hallelujah than I thought.
