Since it is the 11th of March I thought I'd share this bit of trivia :

Ever since that day in 2011 the japanese National Team of table Tennis wears jearseys with "wasurenai 3.11"(not forget 3.11 ) written on them.

The link is to a galary of images it may be that you have to click through the images a bit to get a good frontal short of a japanese player

Off topic but I don't know where to put it - I loved Nao Kodaira's haircut - reminded me of Mai Murakami's - wish some of the Japanese ladies would follow Weijing and Vanessa and be a bit more adventurous with their hair.

Not sure if this is considered a sport but I think of it as one (well, the Japanese edition.) Sasuke (Ninja Warrior) will be on on the 26th of March. Anyone else a fan?

Also wondering if any Kohei Uchimura fans could point me in the direction of some good videos to watch. I just saw that video posted on the Olympic Channel of him and Yuzu and he's so elegant!

ETA.

Oh my lord. I've been loving under a gymnastics rock!

He's known for his precise and perfect form and 'stuck' landings.  <3 HERE's a nice ppt presentation of the TJ men's gymnastics team.

Sasuga Encyclopedia-san.

I just watched the 2015 clip then the 2014 clip and my goodness, he sure seemed (to my untrained eyes) to have levelled up considerably in 2015! Absolutely incredible. My memories of gymnastics are of very heavy men straining themselves. This feels like the first time I saw Yuzu: "I didn't know it could be like this. He's so light!

All it really is for one athlete with effortlessness, efficiency, and elegance to sell me on a sport, though I can't see myself following it as deeply as FS. I might take the off season to educate myself. :)

I'm far from an expert in gym as I only follow Kohei and Kenzo... and discovered both indirectly because of Yuzu :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

i was the other way round - discovered Yuzuru because of Kohei and Ryohei Kato, who were asked for their opinion on the CoC disaster - both said that if they were the coach they would try to dissuade him from carrying on, but as athletes they would want to continue, which Kohei demonstrated last October ☹️

Here are links to the 'Miracle Bodies ' documentary- it's in Japanese but the diagrams etc show how he makes those perfect landings.

Also the documentary about how he improved his rings technique to make it onto the team for Beijing where he won silver in the AA on a wonky ankle (sound familiar?) which was just before the start of his extraordinary 2 quad run.
