[2022] NHK Trophy

I love the piece of music for Shoma's FP, but somehow it doesn't connect well with him...  Too bad because I wish someone would skate well to a Baroque piece - I mean a truly Baroque piece, not a techno version - to bring out the underlying tension and complex interplay between the different voices.

Watching the award ceremony for men's.   Shoma has learned to sing/mouth the anthem, which he didn't used to do before.  He may have learned from Yuzu how to behave/present himself on the podium.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I get the distinct impression that training away from home for the past while has given Shoma an appreciation for things he used to take for granted. Like his anthem.

Aw, the coach photos...cute!

Stephane's definitely proud of Shoma.

Sota still needs to work on his mental game but ofc he, without any support, won’t have it easy. Still I’m glad to see him fighting, not giving up and in good shape.

Junhwan came back to TCC and we see a rise in his scores. Brian Orser is working hard because they didn’t call out those obvious UR and edge issues for Jun. Jun needs that because I can’t see him working to fix those TES issues. He is overscored TES wise.

Shoma continues his overscored legacy but his new programs are so boring and empty. He lost his own strong qualities while trying to mimic Nathan. Now, he is nothing special.

Conclusion: I see that Ghislain is no magician, he couldn’t help either of Shoma or Jun with their jumps.

Watching that guy Nika skating to SOS d'un terrien en detresse, I can't help but recall Weaver/Poje's debut of their free dance to the same song at ACI, many moons ago. That's probably the best interpretation and performance of the song that I have seen. I remember I was so moved (and felt bad until now with all the changes made afterwards). Nika's FS couldn't come close to that. He was completely drown out by the music.

This is such a beautiful piece of music and yet Shoma somehow manages to make it boring

I thought both the music and the choreo are boring, and hence, the performance.

Shoma needs to stick to Mihoko if he wants to create something interesting again.

I'm happy that Rinka's 3A was back, although it was not perfect.

Now I'm listening to the music of JIN, which is one of my favorite dramas.

The soundtrack is gorgeous

Wow! Rock and Roll Kazuki! Nice!

....watching the Gala

Jun's program was absolutely lovely!  And completely different from Skate America. Kudos to him.

Sota's program was so intense and dramatic. Not what I expected from him at all.

Okay, Ted. Getting a bit fulsome. Shoma's got his good qualities but no need to lay the flattery on with a trowel

Riku and Ryuichi do this music so much better than M-T/M ever did.
