In this blog entry, Akiko wishes "Maral-chan" good luck with her international debut at Asian Winter Games 2011. She now studies and trains at Chukyo University. Here is an old article about her: Mongolian figure skater emerges from Japan, 04 FEB 2011 Quote Her idol is Japanese figure skater and training partner Akiko Suzuki, and the pair share the same coach in Hiroshi Nagakubo. Suzuki, eighth at the Vancouver Winter Olympics last February, even sent Maral a good luck email before the competition. Quote Born in Mongolia, Maral moved to Japan when she was five years old when her mother went there to study Japanese and work as a translator. The family live in Nagoya, home of Toyota Motors and a hotbed for figure skating. “I started skating two and a half years ago and this is my first international competition,” said Maral, after completing her short programme at the National Indoor Cycling Arena on Friday afternoon. “I enjoyed it a lot and I am happy with my score. It’s just such a nice feeling to be competing here with the figure skaters from Japan, Korea, China and so many different countries.” And a photo from Finlandia Trophy 2017

I did think it might be an old one, but was too lazy to check at the time So she trains in Nagoya too. Wish her success in her career, so she can maybe someday go back to her home country and train future skaters for Mongolia.

Quote She told us she trains and studies in JPN (the same rink asada does/did), shes the only Mongolian skater, no ice in MGL, she's here all by herself. She's competing so she could be a coach one day and teach kids to skate. She feels shes not good enough (2b coach) yet.

Sombreuil
Because 'Blues for Klook' was used in today's JGP and @Fay reminded me of Daisuke Takahashi's version, which had faded in any detail from my memory, I went and had a look at the Worlds version and it was quite remarkable. I don't know how he didn't win. I'm afraid I still like S/H better - I think it's because the beat is so heavily marked and they don't miss it- DS is astonishing, S/H are astonishing x2.
