Canoe sprint is a traditional sport here and the competitions always have good atmosphere. It is usually warm and sunny at such competitions, the water is beautiful, and the environment with lot of trees and a bit if breeze is so calming. So this year Kopasz won Europeans too but lost at Nationals against Varga which was a bit of a surprise because Varga is young with not much international experience. Thankfully this is the first Olympics where the one country/event rule doesn't apply anymore - so in the K1 1000 men's event it meant both Kopasz and Varga were able to compete. And they won gold and silver! 🥲 In the women canoe sprint events, in Rio Danuta Kozák was able to win 3 gold medals now it seems Lisa Carrington from New Zealand could be this successful and win 3 or even 4 golds (she will compete in 4 events and she is a favourite in all of them). Kozák has won a bronze medal today in K2 500 behind New Zealand and Poland. Today is a good day for Hungary not just in canoe sprint 😊 In sailing, in the finn dinghy event Berecz won the medal race and won the silver medal overall. The British guy, Giles Scott came back from 6th to 4th place in the last round of this race so overall he won the gold medal. This is Hungary's best result in this sport and it's really a great achievement for a country that doesn't even have a sea only a bigger lake 😅 This was the last finn dinghy event at the Olympics, in Paris this event won't take place anymore. I am now travelling but I am trying to follow the news because there will be lots of good events today.

Interestingly, the finish between 2nd 3rd and 4th in K1 1000 m was also very close. A close finish is quite rare in 1000 m. 6 minutes ago, Paskud said: Whaaaat, why? Quote This summer will be last time we see the Finn dinghy at the Olympic Games. In order to meet the directive from the International Olympic Committee for equal participation and events for men and women at the Paris 2024 Games, World Sailing made the decision to drop the Finn class from the Olympic roster, in favour of a mixed double-handed offshore event (along with a mixed kiteboarding relay race, while the mixed offshore event was itself recently ditched for separate Men’s and Women’s kitesurfing medals). https://www.yachtingworld.com/all-latest-posts/finn-dinghy-farewell-to-olympics-132484

sallycinnamon
Congratulations to Guan on becoming Olympic champion on balance beam. Great routine! Tang did also very well. 👏 And congrats to Simone for competing here and winning a medal. Not giving up completely shows what a good athlete she is.👍

sallycinnamon
I am happy for Lorincz because it was his last competition in his career and he lost the gold many times before (Olympics 2012, twice Worlds). His brother is in the final of 87kg category so in case both of them become Olympic champions that'd be so big (but in worse case he is a silver medalist). Good luck to him tomorrow 🤞
