I think he will be very proud when Yuzu will land it, yes c: But also, I think it has become obvious to us that Yuzuru will never have a name to truly represent everything that he gave and is giving to the sport. "Absolute Champion" comes very close, but still it's not enough! So when he will land 4A, it won't even be the greatest thing he has ever done. That's how good he is. 4A isn't even the best of him.

Back after a weekend away and no hope of catching up.

@gladi thank you so much for the translation.  I really agree with the point that Seimei and Chopin are the quintessential, non warhorse, YH programmes and the Olympics is the place to use them.  In 20 years time no one will be wittering on about repeats - they'll just remember two astonishing programmes.

On various people's concern about YHs social life, or lack thereof, speaking as a confirmed introvert who is looking at an autumn full of 'social' engagements, most of them work related and (for me) bloody hard work, I say leave him in peace and let him concentrate on the things that interest him.  If the social stuff doesn't come naturally to you it wears you out.

Oh, I totally get the feeling of not wanting to leave your cozy cave and go be social, especially if you have to make nice with a bunch of people you don't know or have few things in common; that's pretty much an introvert's nightmare fuel

Still, even us introverts need socialization from time to time with the people we're comfortable with. In Yuzu's case, we can only hope he gets that in any way he deems fit and doesn't completely isolate himself. As long as he's happy and healthy, who cares how he goes around it *shrugs*

At least I'm having to do it in my native language- if I had to mingle and chit chat and remember names and faces and business/family/friendship networks in a foreign language I'd probably have a nervous breakdown - I think that's what he was getting at in the Fernandez documentary - he finds it hard in Canada because he's used to speaking Japanese with his family and friends.

I think if he needed to do it, he could well make that effort and socialize, but it would involve considerable energy expenditure - no matter whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, socializing in a foreign language you don't speak well is hard work. No wonder he prefers to save up his energy and do something he wants to do.

Being a picky eater is another factor adding up to the problem.

So... yeah, we'd like him to practise his English, but come on, we can put up with his English as it is. It's incredibly cute.

I think I'm forced to be extroverted at work because I'm in a competitive field. Think everything is relative and what culture you are living in. When I'm not at work, people considered me quite introverted when I lived in the US, but when I lived in Japan, most of the people thought I was quite extroverted and assertive. I'm pretty much happy to stick with a small group of friends and never did much partying, etc.---even when I was young enough to do that . Married to a quiet guy, so I'm forced to do the social small talk most of the time, which I don't really enjoy.

As an introvert myself, I do understand how socialising (in a different language than you're used to no less) can be really draining. I think I'm just happy that his thoughts of TCC as just his training ground or a place to practice has somewhat shifted into a sense of family (regarding Tracy as someone who is like a mom and Gihislain lika a dad) . He doesn't have to or need to socialise outside of TCC but at least now it looks like he's also having fun together with team cricket (that hydroblading class with Shae-Lynn).. :10636614:

Other than just the introvert vs extrovert thing, we're also forgetting that for him, his friends even at TCC are part of his "work" life. Even if I'm really good friends with people at work, I don't really want to socialise with them on the weekends all the time, since it would remind me of work, and that might create stress. If the work colleague and I have few interests or hobbies in common, we might just talk about work a bit too much.

Besides, suspect that Yuzu has friends from Japan whom he can chat with occassionally online or via games. While not the same thing as face to face conversations, it might be enough to give him some social life and help cope with the loniless of living overseas for your career.
